VLOG #5, part three

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

In case you are sick of my big ol’ curly-haired head popping up on your computer screen (p.s. notice the new, darker do?), I can assure you this is the last part of the three-series VLOG. Thank you again to Brendon and everyone at the Willy Street Co-op for letting me take this blog on location – y’all are the best!

If you need to catch-up on the first two parts, do it now before you reach the end of this post…

Anyways…these past couple days, Wisconsin suddenly decided rain + wind is cool. I happen to disagree. However, in order to deal with what the weather gods have dealt us in the Midwest, I have been waking up in the A.M. with a mondo hankering for warm oats.  Specifically, SSB+J Oats

1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup water + 1/2 cup organic skim milk
pinch of salt
1 smashed naner
cinnamon
vanilla NuNaturals stevia drops
1 T blackberry jam
1 T sunflower seed buttah

Never, ever lets me down. Unlike lipstick, large hoop earrings, David O. Russell movies, grapefruit, horoscopes and tube tops – all of which I continually try over and over (convincing myself this is going to be the day I like it) – which always let me down.

There have been several yog messes over the past couple days…

Blackberry jam + ground flaxseed make great yog mess add-ins, FYI.

On my usual weekly grocery shop this weekend, I made a new, locally-produced foodie discovery. Browsing my co-op’s rather sad hummus selection (one of its only downfalls), I spotted this tub and immediately purchased it with Elise in mind…

The verdict? Very enjoyable!  I can’t say it’s my fave hummus ever (hello, Sabra?!?!), but I love the fact it’s got some tofu, tamari + parsley in it.  A lil’ extra protein + bit of a kick gets two thumbs up in my book. Word to the garbanzo bean. It really truly is the best bean.

While I have enjoyed this hummus dipped in carrots, on a lovely veggie sammie and licked right out the container with my short n’ stubby fingers, my absolute FAVORITE way I have enjoyed this newfound product is in this…

3 cups baby spring mix
1 Sunshine falafel patty, crumbled
1 grated carrot
huge dollop o’ hummus
2 T crushed walnuts
hefty pinch of red pepper flakes
drizzle of light Hidden Valley ranch dressing

HELLO BEAUTEOUS JUNK SALAD!

Devoured in roughly four minutes and 28 seconds.

To keep this post from becoming ginormously + obnoxiously long, I am going to save my new April goals for another post.  So, without further ado, I present to you the final installment of The Healthy Everythingtarian’s VLOG #5 shot live at the lovely Willy Street Co-op

Enjoy!

VLOG #5, part two

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Before the madness continues at Willy Street Co-op for part two of VLOG #5 (click here to watch part one in all its glory), there are a couple things I need to clarify…

  • Although Brett is technically a lawyer, he is NOT Mr. Lawyer. Sorry ladies + gents – the mystery over my wannabe love life shall continue!
  • Despite me saying that I needed to cut down on sugar, I indeed had ice cream last night.  Sue me.
  • I am pretty sure my dance friend Doug (with the two artificial hips) hit on me in salsa class last night. Weird thing is…I didn’t even mind it – in fact, I laughed.
  • As of today, the word “ummm” is banished from my vocabulary.

With that, enjoy part two (of three!) of my tour of the lovely Willy Street Co-op

Stay tuned tomorrow for…

  • Part three of VLOG #5
  • My new April goals
  • New product alert + seriously delicious food
  • More rambling, per usual

Happy Wednesday friends!

VLOG #5, part one

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Hey kiddos! Thanks for all your sweet comments on my last post, where I succeeded in humiliating my lovely sisters on the World Wide Web.  Hey, what are sisters for if we can’t post obnoxious pictures of each other for all of cyberspace to see?  It’s all in love.  And they know it.

Anyways, breakfast yesterday was epic.  I’ve been dreaming about this smoothie for days.  In my head, I’ve been carefully crafting each component and waiting for the perfect morning for this idea to come to fruition.  Today was the day.  Get ready boys and girls…it’s time for a Chunky Monkey Smoothie!

1 cup organic skim milk
1 tbsp. cocoa powder
2 small bananas, frozen + sliced
2 tbsp. brown rice protein powder
1 tbsp. peanut butter
a couple dashes of cinnamon
1/4 cup Not Sweet Vanilla Galaxy Granola

It was seriously delicious. And lasted me 4 hours.

Dinner combined the two food groups I desperately need in my life (and body) right now – protein + veggies! With bikini season on the horizon and a lil’ too much indulging these past couple weeks, it’s time to get back to basics.  That means more veggies + lean proteins and A LOT LESS sugar.

Emphasis on A LOT LESS.

2 large handfuls spring mix
1 hard-boiled egg
1 grated carrot
1 Sunshine Falafel patty
drizzle of light ranch dressing
steamed sweet ‘tater + smidge o’ buttah

After work, a 60-minute Dave Farmar yoga podcast and dinner, it was time.  Time for what, you ask? Time for VLOG #5! That’s right, I said it.

I enlisted the help of my friend Brett to showcase his fimography skills…

Such a cute lil’ thang he is. And so kind + generous.

I definitely owed him a drink for taking one for the team and transforming himself into a filmmaker extraordinaire all for the purpose of my fifth VLOG….

Cheers, and welcome to the Willy Street Co-op, home of The Healthy Everythingtarian’s VLOG #5!!!

Watch and learn. And hopefully laugh.  I make no promises.

Two things:

  • Ummm….could YouTube have chosen a worse still shot of me?
  • And, could I have said the word noise “ummm” any more in this VLOG? I must work on that (I don’t want to word “um” to be my downfall from getting my own show on the Travel Channel, ya know?).

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Willy St. Co-op for letting me do this as well as to Brett for filming my craziness on camera! And, as you may have noticed, this video is only part one of a three part VLOG (yes…I said three part) so get ready for more co-op action in my next post.

With that, it’s 7:07am and I haven’t showered, eaten or done anything yet this morning to get myself one step closer into work.  Oops!

Enjoy and have a lovely day!

Counting Suge Monster

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Hey friends! Thanks for watching the randomness that is my latest VLOG!

Two things:

  • Some of you mentioned I called it a “vee-log” instead of a “vlog” (rhymes with blog).  Yeah, that’s how I roll.
  • I need more VLOG ideas! What do you want to see more of?  Less of?  Leave me a comment, and let me know!

Anyways…this morning started with a delectable, filling brekkie.  I sauteed a huge handful of spinach in a smidge of EVOO + garlic, then added two eggs and a thawed Sunshine breakfast patty.  With two pieces of sprouted Ezekiel bread with a smidge of buttah, this was the perfect way to start the day…

Total: 28 grams of protein, 24 grams of healthy fat and roughly 600 calories.  Love it.

Unfortunately, lunch ended up being about 5 hours later, which left me ravenous waiting for my Chipotle bowl of love.  Sooo…I started lunch off with five of these.  Yes, five Valentine heart York Peppermint Patties.  No shame.

I had packed a lunch, but when my coworkers said they were making a Chipotle run, I couldn’t say no.  It just wouldn’t be right, even if it was my 2nd Chipotle bowl of the week.  I got my usual veggie burrito bol, which contains:

cilantro rice
black beans
fajita veggies
mild salsa (aka tomatoes)
lettuce
extra, extra guac

That’s 300 calories of chocolate + 600 calories of Chipotle right thurre.

You know me, usually I don’t count calories. But, for some reason, I am doing it on this post.  Just go with it.

Call me Suge Knight, because I downed the suge (ahem, candy) today. I LOVE candy. I do.  It stretches all the way back to being a kid, where I would attempt to give up candy for Lent every year.  I don’t think I ever made it.  After lunch, I had six of these Dove caramel chocolates…

That’s another two-hundo in kcals.

Even though I usually don’t count calories, I do think once in awhile it isn’t a bad thing.  It is a great way to check-in and make sure your serving sizes are correct, you’re eating the right amount and keeping everything balanced. Clearly, today was obvs not the best day to count for me (hello chocolate!), but whatevs.

After work, I headed off to a stretch-tastic 75-minute Power Yoga class.  I needed it so badly, and I am so glad I went. When I arrived home, I ate dinner (which was originally supposed to be my lunch)…

Veggie Spaghetti (400 kcals)

And my new fave Choco Apple Berry Snack (200 calories)…

1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup frozen strawbs
1 tbsp. carob chips
1 tbsp. shredded coconut

Seriously.  Try this now.  It’s delicious.

Total = 2100 calories

Exercise = – 200 calories

Net = 1900 calories

Not too shabby, considering all the sugar I ate today.

Alrighty kiddos, it’s Friday night, and I am laying in bed watching the Olympic opening ceremonies.  Usually, this part doesn’t excite me.  However, it’s been a long week, my bed is ridiculously comfortable and Nelly Furtado is performing.

Mama + Daddy Everythingtarian are also coming to visit tomorrow!  Woowoo!

What would YOU like to see in my next VLOG? Share.

How do you feel about counting calories? I couldn’t do it everyday because I would go insane, but every once in awhile, I like to check in by counting them up!

I’m v-logging…I’m v-v-logging…

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

To the tune of Danity Kane’s “Show Stopper,” naturally.

As you are soon going to find out, my day of eats looked a lil’ something like yesterday, the day before that and well…the day before that.  The only non-repeat in my day was this Jess-inspired snack bowl of heaven…

Before…

1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1 tbsp. carob chips
1 tbsp. shredded coconut

After (heated in the microwave for 1 minute)

Despite how it may look, it was amazing.

Alright, since my eats were BOR-INGGGG, I thought it was only time for some V-LOVING-LOGGING!

Warnings:

  • I am Casper the Ghost, call-me-Nicole-Kidman-because-I-have-no-skin-pigment pale.
  • I literally had NO IDEA what I was going to vlog about when I turned the camera on.
  • You may get slight motion sickness watching this video.

So, without further ado, here we go…

In the spirit of A.D.D. and randomness, here are some jams I am currently loving:

  • “Pumpkin Soup” by Kate Nash
  • “Bad Romance” by Lady GaGa
  • “Pure Pleasure Seeker” by Moloko
  • “Don’t Stop” by Brazilian Girls
  • “Horchata” by Vampire Weekend

That reminds me, thank the sweet heavens tomorrow is Friday.  Was anyone else’s week as crazy as mine?  Weekend plans are TBD for me, but…

What are you doing this weekend? Spill the deets.
