Totally Buzzin’
Coming off of yesterday’s LUCKY day, I really wasn’t expecting today to get even BETTER.
But it did.
I would make you scroll to the end of this post to find out why, but I can’t do that to you lovelies. You have been far too good to a gal for me to turn all sneaky and malicious on y’all.
I got nominated for a Foodbuzz Blog Award!
And I didn’t do anything illegal or against my morals to earn it either!
What blogger would you most like to take to dinner?
1. Bouchon for 2
2. Carrots ‘n Cake
3. Eric Rivera Cooks
4. The Healthy Everythingtarian
5. Steamy Kitchen
I believe #4 is me: your neighborhood Healthy Everythingtarian. So, another round of THANK YOUS to all of you, whether you voted or not. Your support and love from the blog has been completely unexpected yet absolutely amazing! If you want to show a sista some more love, you can click ANYWHERE in this sentence and perhaps vote for me one more time?
I don’t like to pimp myself out, but certain occasions just call for it
.
Back to the eats!
I woke up at 4:30am this morning and could NOT fall back asleep. Enter in some blog reading and a bowl of glorious Fall Oats by candlelight…
1/2 cup oats
1/3 cup water + 1/3 cup skim milk
1/2 cup sweet potato puree
1 tsp. blackstrap molasses
1 tsp. agave
cinnamon, nutmeg + ginger
1 small box raisins
1 spoonful PB&Co. Mighty Maple PB

Then I hobbled my way the 1 mile walk to work in the rain. Yes, I am still hobbling. Yes, it felt like the longest walk ever.
Today’s eats were mini-meal style, starting with a camera shy Honeycrisp apple + handful of raw almonds. Then around 11am, I whipped open a bag of these dudes I got for free at the marathon expo…

I am much more a sweets gal than a salty chip fiend, but if you are going to eat the potatoes, cheddar + sour cream is the way to go.
A tupperware of roasted acorn squash, agave + cinnamon, which looks eerily like a really nasty #2…

And a yog mess made with the new Nature Valley Nut Clusters I received this weekend…
1 cup Stonyfield Lowfat Vanilla yog
1 sliced banana
1 sliced kiwi
5 roasted almond granola clusters

The nut clusters are good, and the stats aren’t too shabby either. I think I got about 5 or 6 clusters for 150 calories, 4 grams of protein, 7 grams of sugar and some carbs thrown in there for good measure.
Dinner, I knew I had to find something to concoct with my new stash of coconut oil. I present to you an easy peasy coconut curry mound of deliciousness. That was the best description I could come up with.
I sauteed 1 small onion + 1 large green bell pepper in 1 tbsp. of coconut oil
with a pinch of salt. I let that do it’s thang for awhile until the veggies were softened.
Then I added 1 tsp. of Madras curry powder, tossed in a huge handful of spinach and mixed well.
While that heated through, I took a Kashi 7-Grain Pilaf, cooked it in the microwave for 90 seconds
then topped it all with a sprinkle of unsweetened shredded coconut…

Delish.
But not as delish as this…

Brandi is a genius – dark chocolate + almond butter puppy chow. Amaze.
Alright, I am still hungry, have some freelance writing to finish, organization to attend to, part-time job scoping (2 rejections already – ugh!), dish washing and most importantly, SLEEP.
If I visited the city you live in right now, what restaurant would you bring me to for dinner? Deets + links are appreciated. And don’t forget to vote!

GO HOLLY GO HOLLY GO! I am so excited for you— I voted.. and I would take you to Natty Greens… It is the local brewery here in Greensboro, NC. I’ve never had there beer (21 in march) but I’ve been told it’s TOPS!
Aside from the beyond brilliant seasonal beer that you’d order is the food and the environment! We’d have to go on a beautiful fall day and sit outside! I’d order the veggie burger or wasabi tuna sandwich!! Delicious!! And we would be tickled at all of the eclectic folks takin a stroll down downtown greensboro!

I’ma go ahead and vote now.
I hate not being able to fall asleep. Around here, it’s due to frat parties, but they’ve calmed down since rushing ended.
I love eating things that other people tell me look like baby food. Baby’s have the good life I’m telling you.
If you’re ever in the Massachusetts are, you’re getting your carbs on here: http://tomassotrattoria.com/ We’re talking authentic, fresh everything, Italian cuisine. Last time I went I had grilled watermelon with goat cheese and a pizza with black mission figs, goat cheese, and a wine-reduction sauce. I wanted to wed a pizza.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
YAY!! Congrats girl!! Por favor, come to NYC and I will take you to my fave rest, Joya. It would be epic
October 6th, 2009 at 6:26 pm

Puppy chow with dark choc & almond butter?? Genious!!!

umm dark choc almond butter puppy chow? DROOL.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
That is totally awesome. And I gotta make me some puppy chow stat!
I really can’t think where I’d take you if you were here. This upmarket pasta restaurant was amazing and totally lived up to its name (http://www.delicious.co.nz/), but for a huge variety of cheap quality food, you can’t beat Food Alley (which is so budg it has no website). I take all my visitors there!
October 6th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!!! Coongrats Holly! I voted for you initially, now voting again. WOOOOO! If you were in NY, I’d take you to my diner. Yes, I call it ‘mine’. If it was Scotland…a traditional Scottish restaurant. NOT the kind that sells deep fried candy, but things like smoked haddock…..mmmm…one right by my house then you can crash at mine and eat yogurt messes in the morning
October 6th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Congrats on the nomination! I totally voted for you!
And that puppy chow sounds absolutely amazing.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:48 pm

Ok, not going to lie. I have a bag of puppy chow in my freezer right now, and now I really want to go and get a bowl… lol. But dark chocolate/almond butter? That is a very genius move!

Puppy chow is as good as sin!!
October 6th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Yay! I’m so excited for you–things just keep getting better and better for you!
If you were in GR, I would take you either here (http://www.mariecatribs.com/), here (http://www.electriccheetah.com/) or here (http://www.marinadespizzabistro.com). Nothing fancy, but SOOO good (“real”, local, delicious). But I’m cheap, so I’ve only been there a couple times!
October 6th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
dark choc and ALMOND butter puppy chow! wow…can you say yummy!
jenna
October 6th, 2009 at 7:25 pm

Totes just voted for you!! You are going to win that category, fa sho! I want to have dinner with you erryday!
Gahhh oats! Yours sound so amazing! And I need puppy chow. I suppose the flax flakes I just ate will have to do…that sounds so sad in comparison.
If you were in my city I would take you to Casa! Amazing evertyhingtarian mexican-ish, local, organic food: http://casanueva.com/ AND amazing cocktails and home brews! xoxoxo
October 6th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
If you came here I would have to cook
Probably pancakes!
October 6th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Congrats on the blog award nomination!
October 6th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
I’m voting!! Congrats!!
That squash mixture sounds delicious! I’ve got two acorn squashes sitting in my pantry.. now i have a way to put them to good use!
October 6th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
That salad looks unreal. And there is NOTHING wrong with being 24 and stealing food from parents. I do it on a weekly basis from my in-laws. I’m sure they love it.
I would bring you to a place called Rolls ‘n Bowls – which unfortunately doesn’t have a website. It is a Vietnamese place with bet best bowls of noodles/veggies. It’s so good. Plus, it happens to be right next to the best frozen custard place on earth: CJ’s. http://www.cjsfrozencustard.com/
October 6th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
I totally voted for ya girl
Hope your hobbling turns to regular walking soooon!!!
October 6th, 2009 at 8:17 pm

October 6th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
I am so happy, happy for you!
I want you to come to Charlotte, and I will take you to Zada Janes. It’s adorb, and most popular with the Charlotte area food bloggies.
October 6th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
totally just voted for you girl!
where would you like to go!? i wanna have dinner with you, please and thank you!
October 6th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
We have an organic restaurant called Basilico Organic. I haven’t been there yet since it’s fairly new. We would HAVE to go there.
October 6th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Yay for the award nom! I’ll vote for you!
I’d bring you a vegan dish from one of the fantastic restaurants I’ve gotten hooked on lately
October 6th, 2009 at 10:40 pm

October 6th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Yay, congrats on the nomination! I’ll be sure to vote. Love the fall oats, and that puppy chow looks freaking awesome!
If I was in Michigan, I’d take you to Seva–the veg. restaurant: http://www.sevarestaurant.com/. And if you came to Arizona, I’d take you to Pita Jungle: http://www.pitajungle.com/index.cfm/menu/menuType/1 Their food is ah-mayzing!
October 6th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Congrats! Of course I’ll vote for you!
Ah, you asked earlier about coconut oil!
Some foods it goes great with:
- Mango
- Light fish
- Cilantro
- Wheat bread
- Lemon
I put it into omelets and stir fries. It’s very good because it has a high smoke point.
October 7th, 2009 at 12:22 am
ah holly!! when i saw the nomination earlier today i freaked out! congratulations dearrrr, you so deserve it….i’d LOVE to take you out on the town in LA or NYC perhaps!? We could hit up indiannnn and eat all the spicy, veggie-rific food to our hearts delight!
ps-lovin’ the yog mess!!! bananas + kiwi are a divine combo! xoo
October 7th, 2009 at 12:58 am

It’s all about the company, you know!
October 7th, 2009 at 8:04 am
Congrats and my compliments on the cocunut curry yumminess
October 7th, 2009 at 8:06 am
I literally squeeled with glee when I saw your name on there yesterday! So happy for you. Pimp away! But I voted for you immediately… I wish I could forge more Foodbuzz accounts to vote again and again
If you visited me (which would be SOOO cool) I’d have to take you to my college stomping grounds for a food festivus! We’d start at The Earth (hippie deliciousness) then hit up Thai Raja (best Thai EVER) and end with Victoria’s (most amazing homemade pasta). You’d be full, but then we’d go dancing and empty out
October 7th, 2009 at 8:50 am
Congratulations on the nomination!
October 7th, 2009 at 9:09 am
congrats on the nom! I already voted
I’m so glad you like the puppy chow! We dominated it…I need to make more for us, too
Hmmm…I would have said The Bank which was my favorite place here, but they just got new chefs and I haven’t check it out yet!
Of course, if you were coming in october, we would go to Oktoberfest at Mountain Lake (where Dirty Dancing was filmed!). It’s 15 minutes from my house and they have this huge German feast with lots of beer, pretzels, and an Oompa Band. Fun.
October 7th, 2009 at 9:18 am
candle cafe (http://www.candlecafe.com/) and curly’s lunch (http://www.curlyslunch.com/) in nyc are le best. period.
October 7th, 2009 at 9:22 am
CONGRATS! Good things happen to good people – but you’re more than just good people
Hmm.. where would I take you? Probably this place called Cous Cous. It’s Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisine and you can order things tapas style. Their menu seems pretty eclectic and the food I’ve tried is all delicious! Hello manchego cheese fritters with a mango coulis! And crispy eggplant with apricot and pine nuts! Not to mention the environment is awesome – you get transported into another world and it’s not cheesy at all.
http://www.couscous900.com/
orrr if you feel like having Thai food
I would take you to Ginger Thai and you could try some of my Pineapple Fried Rice! It’s sooo good.
http://www.gingerthaitaste.com/
p.s. try the coconut oil in your acorn squash puree if you have some left over!
October 7th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Let’s see, in Asheville,NC or Black Mountain, NC? I would have to say My Father’s Pizza or the Cellar Door! I just at the Cellar Door last night, and it was amazing!!! Good luck on your part time job search!!! You’ll find the right one for you soon!
October 7th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Congrats on your nom!! I’ll vote shortly
Oh man, that puppy chow looks WAY too good to be true! That white stuff isn’t powdered sugar..it’s crack.
October 7th, 2009 at 10:13 am
Congrats on the nomination!! I noticed that earlier, totally deserving
Your post-marathon eats look so nutritious! I’m verrry impressed. After my triathlon I had a slice of pie the size of my head and called it a meal
Your hobbling reminded me of this commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-hCuYjvw2I
October 7th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
CONGRATS Hollz!!! I totally just voted for you – and some of your bloggy friends that my computer mouse may have magically drawn me to… oopsie!
I started thinking about all the amazin restaurants that DC has to offer, and I decided that in order to get the full effect – I’d need an entire day.
For breakfast we would head to Perry’s for their Drag Queen Brunch. Eggs, hollandaise, and JLo working it on stage – perfection!
http://www.perrysadamsmorgan.com/brunch/
By lunch, I suspect we’d have drained our wallets (waving dollar bills in the air at the dancing queens after too many mimosas), so i’d take you to the cheapest, most delicious lunch in town…
http://www.falafelshop.com/
You walk yourself through a buffet of mouth-water toppings (as many as you want, as much as you can fit in your pita – mission accomplished!)
And even though we’re going to be stuffed to the brim, we can’t pass up the opportunity to go trolling for gorgeous Capitol Hill men in crisp suits in dark lounge bars near the White House… so we’d be hitting up this place for oyesters and Martini’s with Barrack…

October 7th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
oh my goodness, I think I need to make myself some puppy chow tonight. Congratulations on the FoodBuzz nomination (I voted for you, yay!).
I’d love to go out to dinner with you in NYC! One of my fav places is a coal-oven pizzeria called Grimaldi’s located under the Brooklyn Bridge. Thin and crispy pizza topped with fresh mozzarella and Italian tomatoes. Best paired with ice cold diet coke, mmm.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
That’s really awesome, I’m totally going to vote for you! Puppy chow, yay!
October 7th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
SEASONS 52!!!
It is a very good and healthy restaurant where they boost that every dish they serve is under 475 calories!!! Their mini-deserts are amazing and they always have TONS of fresh in season veggies that are to die for, better then meat and for me to say that you know they are GOOD!
=) Laura @ Finding A Healthy Balance (after a “100 Pound” weight loss)
October 7th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
