just one of those days

Ya know how bad things come in threes? Well, apparently “morning fails” also come in threes.

Case in point:

  • To top my morning bowl of oats with some luscious Mighty Maple PB, I stuck the jar in the microwave for 30 seconds to get it all drizzly and nummy.  However, I forgot that part of the aluminum seal was still on the jar.  In other words, I started a fire in my microwave this morning.  Luckily, nobody PB was hurt.

1/2 cup oats
1 cup water
1/2 cup pumpkin
cinnamon, nutmeg + ginger
drizzle of agave
drizzle of maple syrup
roasted Mighty Maple PB
1 tbsp. dark chocolate chips

  • Second, as I was putting away my precious container of pumpkin puree (Libby’s, obv), I lightly tossed it back in the refrigerator not realizing the lid wasn’t on.  Pumpkin splatter all over, which is not easy to clean up, FYI.

  • Then, as I was getting ready to head out into the rain to walk to work (rainboots on!), I realized I left my umbrella at the office from yesterday’s rainy shenanigans.  Ugh, NOT a way to start out a Thursday.

I would count not stopping to get coffee as my 4th morning fail, but really that’s not a fail.  It’s just an addiction.

Thanks to stomach cramps, I felt pretty sheisse-y (that’s sh!t in German, although this girl probs knew that). However, I was pretty productive and stopped around noonish to enjoy some lunch.

1 cup homemade lowfat Greek yog
9 Nature Valley Mixed Nut Clusters
1 smooshed naner
1 heaping tbsp. Bee’s Knees PB

When I am feeling crabby and not so hot, I usually am just really quiet.  Hence, the afternoon involved work, silence, Diet Coke and Milk Duds. And finding out I didn’t make it to San Fran :( .

But Brandi did – so go and congratulate her!  She totally deserves it.

I was supposed to have my 1st day of work at the chic decorating place I am working at part-time through the holidays, but the boss had to reschedule because she got sick. And its still raining. Both things together made it the perfect night to go home, get my PJs on and relax…

Stuffed acorn squash + roasted brussel sprouts + POM Nectarine spritzer = DELICIOUS.

Due to popular demand, it was also time to tape VLOG #2!  And reveal the new hair color!  Get ready kiddos…unleash a crabby lady with video capabilities, and you never know what could happen.

Have a wondrous night my friends…check back tomorrow for a fun 6-month blogiversary giveaway! Don’t forget to enter my giveaway to win some goods celebrating National Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

  2. insideiamdancing Says:

sorry about your thursday fail :( not long till the weekend!!! YAY for v-log… I am going to take my laptop outside to watch it…if I don’t come back to comment, it means someone stole me. Um, maybe I should wait until a more reasonable hour. No delivery guys around this late to protect me :(

  3. Morgan Says:

Sorry you had such a crummy day. I’ve done that before with the aluminum foil. I stopped the micro, peeled off the foil on the edges of the jar and put it back in to finish cooking. Every bite tasted like burnt metal. Come to think of it, I don’t know why I kept eating

  4. Jenna Says:

sorry to hear your day didn’t start out to well! hopefully tomorrow will be much better for you :)
    jenna

  5. Katie Says:

Sorry about your icky day! Rain always makes things bad in my mind. What did you stuff your squash with?? Looks delish.

I’m off to watch your v-log, I will probably comment again in about 8 minutes and 32 seconds.

oh no way!!! Fabulous Vlog x2! I’m applying to go to dental school right now!! hahaha I can’t believe you wanted to be a dentist. :) That’s really cute. I also enjoy that makeshift table made of books!

OK your pumpkin oats are RIDICULOUSLY beautiful. *sigh* I totally know what you mean by pumpkin being hard to clean up. :( Grrr

Sorry to hear about the Nature’s Pride…don’t worry Holly, there will be a ton of NEW and better opportunities.

  8. Katie Says:

Oh my gosh, your hilarious. I liked being able to see your eyes this time because you are so expressive! You made me laugh out loud like 10 times. Have a happy Friday tomorrow, girl.

  9. April Says:

Aww I’m sorry you had a poopy morning!

I loved the video!! That part with the “creepy” eyes made me LOL! I don’t think it’s creepy though! haha

When I was younger I ate ice cream constantly too!

    And I love the haircolor!

  10. Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries Says:

Me encanta tu espanol!

  11. Kailey (SnackFace) Says:

OK, I am not kidding when I say I have done the exact same thing with Mighty Maple!!! Swear to the powers above! It sparked and then made my Mighty Maple a little burnt tasting for a while.

I am so sorry about the poopster day! You know what’s fab about this, though? Tomorrow’s going to be amazing. I’m sure of it.

Ahhh! I love this vid, once again. Thanks for the shout-out and for answering my Q! Love you, boo!

  12. Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) Says:

I have also sparked up the microwave – but with a packet of nutella (foil covered). you’re not alone.

  14. Emily Says:

sorry about your not-so-great day! but whoa, your oats look too good.

love the fall-sh locks! and the insightful commentary :)

  15. insideiamdancing Says:

yay! loved it :D :D :D thank you for answering all my questions! Ack, I just wrote on someone’s blog that I wished Ben and Jerry’s would sponsor me to live off ice cream for a month to raise money for something. Chubby Hubby all the way! YEAH!

I wanted to be a doctor too then ended up in marketing/communications. Still kind of want to be a doctor but word on the street is that it’s not actually LIKE ‘Scrubs’. I did not realise this :( Boo.

No books have changed my life in a big way either. Though dictionaries have come in handy, as have phone books. Pumpkin oats, overnight oats…hell yeah. And muffins. I like books I can pick up and open at any page and just read a ‘section’- I used to read a LOT but now have the concentration span of a goldfish. Scrap that- a dead goldfish. Currently reading “Mindf****” and “1001 Of the Dumbest Things Ever Said”. My dad is an English teach…I am sure he is very proud.

I eat at 5:30 too though feeling VERY European right now because in Spain, that’s 9:30 at night…ole, and all that jazz. Just hand me the paella :D

  16. Cindy Says:

LOVE seeing (this time in the light)

:D I just finished catching up on Glee, OMG, how funny was this week? And Matthew Morrison? I adore that guy! Plus I might want to be Sue Sylvester for Halloween. I think a track suit would be sexy on me, what is your opinion.

This is getting really long, and I have to go to bed, but LOVE YOU!

  18. Whit Says:

    PS: And your hair color!

  19. elise Says:

    haha “its home-y”

LOVES! you are too cute, and your hair is adorable, too.

  20. BroccoliHut Says:

What a bummer way to start the day! At least your eats today made up for it. Unfortunately can’t watch the vlog yet–roomie’s sleeping…on the to-do list for tomorrow:)

  21. maria Says:

I feel ya on making sure no PB was hurt. Totally more important than the fire. ;)

  22. maria Says:

loved the vlog, i laughed out loud!

  26. Susan Says:

LOVE the video Holly! Ahh, too many things to comment on :P I guess first, I love your thoughts on blog reading! I do the same, have a handful I read everyday then have a bunch bookmarked that I peruse through as time allows throughout the week. I’m not good at skimming, so I like to read every blog carefully and give thoughtful feedback. I also love your response to what you would do if you couldn’t run. So many people would say it’s the end of the world – but you’re so positive about it! There ARE tons of other things you could do :)

Love the hair colour! Dark brown/auburn is THE colour to go with this fall ;) Hopefully your Friday works out much better for ya! xo

  27. Abby Says:

Fun! I am super grandma, in that I eat around 5 every day and am usually in bed by 10:30. With that said, I always have a huge snack at night, so rock on.

Sorry about the craptastic day, but it can only get better. At least you can return to your fabulous blog and feel the love from your virtual foodie friends :)

  28. Christina Says:

aw holly i hope today is a better day for you than yesterday! I am exactly like you- when Im in the dumps I am very quiet and to myself- and also like to eat candy/icecream/junk ;) haha despite the pb/pumpkin (heck yes libbys! only way to go haha) mishap… the oats look delishhhh

  29. Heather Says:

I’ve done that with a PB&Co jar before! Except I was determined to get my oats in a jar and finally got the aluminum off…then the jar melted.

I am feeling you on the not so hot morning btw.

Here’s to a happy rest of your Friday!

  30. Courtney F Says:

  34. K Says:

Hahaha! Thanks for the shout out ;) As I was reading your morning bumps in the road, I was thinking, “Wow! A lot of swear words would be FLYING out of my mouth!”

LOVEEEEE the hair! I’m a grandma with my dinner time as well – a girl’s gotta eat!!

    HAPPY FRIDAY, MY DEAR!!

  35. christie @ honoring health Says:

Sorry about your bad day :(

Thanks for stopping by my blog today, now I have found yours :D

  36. Emily (Healthy Fit Mama) Says:

Ugh – sounds like a rough morning. I hate morning fails because it really sets the tone for the rest of the day. Although I’m sure some stuffed squash and roasted brussels sprouts would be enough to perk me up!

Hope you’re Friday morning went a bit smoother!

  37. Kristie Says:

Gotta love days like that. I’ve done ALL of those things (once set a travel coffee mug on fire in the micro. Never thought to put pb jar in there though… totally doing that! MINUS the foil ;) ) before but all in one day? I’d be grouching and grumbling for sure. Despite the icky day though, the EATS were incred, which clearly makes everything better!

I’m a dinner grannie too, I always eat early! Sometimes I’ve got my dinner nearly on the plate by 5. I like dinner, I just can’t wait for it sometimes!
Books are great but they don’t really change my life either, at least I haven’t found one yet. We can be fellow “nonintellectuals” and revel in life changing foods instead.

Your hand gestures made my morning. Hilarious. And the hair colour is lovely!

  38. Evan Thomas Says:

Yikes, it really was “one of those days”. At least your eats looked spectacular even if messy. Have a better today!

  39. Anne K. Says:

Oh no, the fire in the microwave sounds scary! I’ve had that sort of thing happen before where a teeny bi of foil makes a HUGE zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzap spark. haha. Sorry about the rough morning, but those oats do look fabulous :) Hope your Friday is going better!

  40. Katharina Says:

Ohh! Well atleast today is Friday. Feel better, love! I love cereal and all breakfast foods and sometimes I’m tempted to just make it a breakfast day lol. Oh! And don’t let the pumpkin = fruit throw you off lol. We can still pretend it’s one of those limbo land foods “what is it?” ;)

What’d you stuff in your acorn squash? I have a white acorn squash and I’m rounding up ideas :)

  41. Erica Says:

Your video will not load for me…tear! Stuffed squash + brussels= two of my favorite things! yummmmmm. Happy 6 month blog birthday

  42. Mary Says:

You are so fabulous! Love love loved the vlog :) And thanks for stopping by my blog– I ADORE finding other people who’ve studied in London and can shed some light on my trip :) I haven’t yet decided how I’m going to work blogging + my semester abroad but I know for sure I’m going to be blogging it somewhere!

  43. Nellie Says:

  58. Alison Says:

24 hours later and I’m finally watching this – I feel like I’m sitting here having a totally normal chat with you. Vlogging comes so naturally to you – you still continue to rock my world Holly girl!

  59. Mimi (Damn the Freshman 15) Says:

I need to try not snacking after din.

I totally hear you on feeling pressure from blog reading. I go in and out in phases – some days I will read a ton and then sometimes I go a few days (or a week) without reading any at all.

Hahaha… cinnamon on everything. And ice cream for everything.

Love the hair (though it’s hard to see in the light).
