This Busy Bee

Two words: BUSY BEE.

After getting into a minor car accident (THANK YOU for all your well wishes), watching my friend run her first 1/2 marathon and napping for the 1st time in ages yesterday, the action just did not stop.

Here is what this busy bee has been doing…

Roti Canai (fried flatbread)
Kari Sayur (vegetable curry)
Thai Green Curry Chicken

CIMG6010

  • Getting my Halloween candy fix with Peanut M&Ms

CIMG6011

  • Being lame on Halloween due to unforeseen circumstances, which resulted in me watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s, responding to reader e-mails and doing some freelance writing
  • Wishing I had gone out for Halloween so I could have debuted my polygamy compound wife costume – complete with black tie-up boots, a long denim dress + ridiculous 2-foot hair
  • Scarfing Oikos Blueberry Greek yog + Clif Honey Graham Z-Bar along with an apple

CIMG6012

CIMG6017

  • Driving back to Madison in time to make my noon shift at the part-time decorating job
  • Snacking along the way, including a KIND Walnut Date Bar (to die for!) + apple

CIMG6016

  • Working for four hours on no sustenance but apple #3 of the day
  • Leaving work and looking for the closest restaurant to eat something – which ended up being a big bowl of Japanese Pan Noodles with Tofu at Noodles & Co.

CIMG6018

  • Grocery shopping and trying to spend under $40 (which I accomplished – $39.12 to be exact)
  • Thinking over and over about how great crawling into bed will be tonight

What this busy bee hopes to accomplish tonight…

  • Finish freelance writing
  • Pay some bills
  • Call some old friends
  • Do the dishes (which are 3 days old now…totally gross)
  • Unpack, clean + organize

What this busy bee will ACTUALLY do tonight…

  • Read blogs :)
  • Drink tea

In other news…

Since I confessed my lack of flossing (which many of you owned up to as well), Andrea and I decided it would be a fab idea to have a 30-day flossing challenge this month!  Flossing can add years onto your life – for reals!

Who is joining us in making our gums healthy and happy?

Um yea that’s what I’m doing this evening instead of HW! Glad I’m not the only one distracted by blogs ;) Adventurous eating I totally am going to try to eat more adventourously for the blog from here on out.

  2. Chelsea @ (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) Says:

Polygamy Compound Wife?! Amazing. So sorry you didn’t get to reap a ton of fun out of your Halloween!

Crumbling up a Z-bar in yogurt sounds like an excellent combination.

I’ve always been an avid flosser, but I will definitely keep the habit alive during your 30-day-challenge.

  3. Evan Thomas Says:

I love the look of those noodles! And the name(It reminds me of PB&Co. and for some reason I find that wicked amusing)

  4. Erica Says:

Hey girlie- you’ve had quite a bit going on over there! And….of course…lots of good eats. I want to go to a Noodle and Co- everything from there always looks so yummy. I use to never floss but have become an addict. Hope you’re enjoying your blog reading and tea :)

  5. Lauren Says:

I am so sorry to hear about your accident but I am soooo thankful that you are okay. How scary that must have been!

Hope the car isn’t too damaged.

Sounds like you had a produtive day and got a lot accomplished. And I agee, the Kind Date and Walnut Bars are pretty incredible.

  6. Jenny Says:

well reading blogs is basically giving you ideas for your freelance writing so your pretty much being EXTRA productive ;) so you deserve a break and a well deserved tea time, mate! love you!

  7. Erica Says:

It’s weird, but ever since I’ve gotten to college, I’ve become an avid flosser! Like 2, maybe 3 times a day now! So many other habits have gone down the drain, but at least I floss :) Go for it!

  8. Tiffany S. Says:

I’m tired just reading about your day!

My dental hygienist has me convinced that even when I’m flossing, I’m doing it wrong. She says you have to get a really short expanse of floss between your fingers and really scrape it up and down each side of the tooth and try to get up into the top as much as possible! It’s a workout! But I’ll try to do it more this month with you in mind. :)

  9. Jenna Says:

I’m just catching up from the past few days.

It looks like you’ve had quite the weekend. Many positives and some negatives. I’m so sorry to hear about your car accident :( I hope all is well.

But so great about your friend completing her first half, blog distractions and good food!

  10. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is Says:

I HAVE to floss now. I just got a million cavities filled. So I must join in on this challenge.

  11. Lauren Christine. Says:

i’m totally in! what a great challenge. so many of us spend a lot of time and energy putting healthy food into our bodies, drinking plenty of filtered water, and exercising most days out of the week–but we forget about things like flossing, which can also lead to heart disease, in addition to cavities and gum disease!

  12. Lizzy Says:

i feel like i have a load of catching up to do too! so much to do so little time! Lovin the peanut M&M fix for halloween, my fix for the holiday was caramel apples brought to you by good ol Kroger! they were delish! :) Have an awesome night love! xoxox

  13. Whit Says:

I am joining the flossing challenge. I floss every day pretty much anyway, so it should not be too hard. So sorry that the polygamy compound wife costume did not get to make it’s debut. There’s always next year, m’dear.

  14. Lynn @ The Actors Diet Says:

i’ve been flossing a lot lately, as my last few dentist bills were not pleasant. i am definitely supporting you on this one!

  15. Matt Says:

I don’t think the flossing challenge will work for me. I don’t think I have flossed once in my whole life!

  16. Emily (The Experimentarian) Says:

Hey Holly–just come to Utah and you can rock you costume any time :) Ha ha!

I used to love those pan noodles, but so sad–soy :( plus I have beef with noodles and co because they always short change me on my veggies and portion sizes. Boo to that.

Yay to healthy gums though. I think it feels SO good to floss. Plus I feel obligated since i work in the dental field. It’s embarrassing to have people inspect your teeth all the time, so they better be clean! xoxo

  17. Jess Says:

    Fabulous challenge :D I’ll join!

Wow–you are one busy bee!!! Good luck with it all!
    <3 jess
    xoxo

  18. Anne Says:

I’m in for the challenge! My dentist will DEFINITELY appreciate it, as will my gums! Bring on the floss…

  19. Kathleen Says:

Wow, you are supahhh busy! Noodles and Co. is basically the best restaurant ever!!
Haha, and I will totally do yo flossing challengee! I need a challenge like that :)

  20. Tay Says:

I will join! I never floss and desperately need to.

  21. Gab* Says:

Ooooh! Peanut M&Ms are one of my faves! We have those Kind bars here but their brand name is REAL, the date and walnut one is totally delicious, I reckon they’d be easy to make yourself.

  22. janetha Says:

mmm that Malaysian food looks dynamite!

    i love you :)

  23. Andrea@WellnessNotes Says:

Wow. You sure pack a lot into your days… :)

The noodles look so good and make me hungry (even though I ate a bit too much food today)…

    So, did you floss yet?

  24. BroccoliHut Says:

Good choice on the peanut M & Ms–I love the dark chocolate kind:)
I am SO with you on the flossing thing–my poor gums are so neglected.

  25. Mama Pea Says:

This is perhaps the lamest comment I’ve ever left, but anyone who hates flossing should buy a Reach flosser. They are like $5 at Target and are just this long toothbrush looking thing with replaceable flossing heads and it makes flossing a BREEZE. I used to hate flossing too, but now I don’t mind at all!

  26. devan geselle Says:

I go through phases of flossing daily.. to then totally forgetting for like a month. haha!

    that curry looks deelightful

  27. ellie Says:

I missed the car accident- glad you are okay!!!!! *mwah*

Tea drinking and reading blogs was how I spent my evening… :) TWINS (though easily identifiable- I am not wearing sunglasses).

Have a fab and groovy Monday!

  28. Susan Says:

I’m so up for the flossing challenge!! I even keep a thing of dental floss next to my bed so I remember to do it, but it never sticks. Maybe forcing myself to do it for a whole month will get me in the habit :)

A polygamist wife outfit would have been hilarious!!! Ohmygosh, can you imagine wearing that out to a club on Halloween where all the other girls are wearing lingerie? (I still don’t understand what you’re supposed to “be” when you just wear stockings and a bra…)

Have a great start to your week Holly! :D

  29. Jen(eatmovelove) Says:

Haha – I love your list of what you’ll ACTUALLY do – I had yoga readings to do last night..and of course nothing got accomplished – this is not good…but I’d rather write??!! Your a freelance writer – I’d love to get into that – let me know any advice/leads you have! Thanks for checking out my blog – add me to your Roll!! I love new readers :) …oh and those noodles look amazing! (and the peanut m&m’s…which I devoured more than a handful of this weekend…)

  30. Abby Says:

Holy busy bee is right! Good lord–switch to decaf! Kidding :) While I am totally an oral hygiene Nazi when it comes to brushing, I am lax on the flossing, so I’m in. I actually have a dentist appt. tomorrow, so I will get a fresh stock! (And hopefully some other free swag.)

  31. K Says:

I MUST see that costume. That sounds like ‘pee-my-pants-laughter’ right there!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s = LOVES! Such a classic! You deserve a relaxing evening after all of that. Hope you are well rested to tackle this week :)

  32. Sarah (Finding My Balance) Says:

Love the costume idea. Maybe you can take a picture specially for the blog??
I hate when you get so hungry at work that it is absolutely necessary to eat the nearest food. Lucky for you, those noodles look fab.
Hope the next few days aren’t so crazy busy!

  33. Naomi(onefitfoodie) Says:

i love breakfast at tiffanys!! what a classic! :)

love that kind bar too!!! I haven’t tried any other flavors but I cant wait too because LOVE that one

    the malaysian food looks great!

  34. Madeline @ GreensAndJeans Says:

I am DOWN with a flossing challenge! Our dentists would be so proud…

  35. brandi Says:

looks like a good weekend overall :) that costume would have been awesome!!!

what kind of freelance do you do?

  36. Cindy Says:

    yes, let’s Floss !

perfect for a post Halloween message!

Sorry to hear you were in an accident…I missed it!…gonna go catch up now!

oh and I LOVE LOVE the japanese noodle dish at Noodles! haven’t had it for a while! MMMMM

Would have loved to see you in that costume!
    oxoxoooxoxoxox

  37. Faith Says:

First, I have to say…your food looks super delish today!

I’m glad to hear you’re ok after your accident!

Oh wow, your costume sounds like it would have been so much fun!

Last time I was at the dentist, she told me that people who floss literally live like 7 years (or some outrageous number like that) longer than people who don’t! Crazy, right? She converted me. :)

  38. Nellie Says:

You can always wear that costume next year, it will never go out of style haha.

Love the budget grocery shopping, you know I’m proud!

  39. Low Says:

You are busy! Get it girl!

Malaysian food?!?! Yes, please! I love trying different foods of the world and that looked TDF.

I’ve been trying to start flossing daily, so I’m in! I have only been managing every other day so maybe this will be the kick in the pants I need :)

  40. Angharad Says:

Ummm you definitely should have come out with us if you had a polygamy compound wife costume at the ready! Amazing!
The food at Peninsula looks really effing good – can’t believe I still have never been. It was on my doorstep for 18 months! Mmmm noodles and co looks comforting and amazing too. Good work there young lady. Just emailed you so will cut this short! Love you!

  41. Jenna Says:

yummy eats! well i am glad i floss :)
    jenna

  42. emily (a nutritionist eats) Says:

What a weekend for you – I’m SO glad that everything turned out ok and you made it to and from Minney safe – what a scary thing! I hope Monday is a little more “low-key” for you!
I still have not been able to find Pumpkin Tea….where did you get yours again? Do you think it is in Minney? I guess I should have stocked up while in WI!

  43. Justine Says:

Oh my!! Sorry to hear about your wreck. I need to go back and check that post out. Glad you are OK!! :) .

Peanut M&M’s was Halloween splurge too!!

    Loves,
    Justine

  44. Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) Says:

You have been a busy bee – I’m impressed with your 3 jobs! Dang girl, are you saving up for an exotic vacation (perhaps to NYC?) Or are you like me…and just paying off student loans, hah.

Love the peanut m&ms – my office has a candy machine full of them. i keep quarters in my desk drawer for sweet tooth emergencies :-)

  45. Alison Says:

OMGoodness I missed the accident post! I’m glad you’re ok but I’m sorry for a banged up car.

Love the 30 day flossing challenge!

Hope you had a peaceful and slightly productive end to your weekend. At least Monday is almost over. ;)

  46. Erin Says:

LOL! Good luck with the challenge.

Sorry you had such a busy bee day. Hopefully today was calmer for ya!

  47. Dawn (HealthySDLiving) Says:

Add years to your life? I’m IN!

  48. Tina Says:

Ok… this month I will NOT forget to floss :P

And congrats with keeping the bill on the low side… I’ve been failing at that: MISERABLY!

    xx

  49. Heather Says:

Ahh I missed post about your accident. So glad you’re okay!

I’m up for the flossing challenge! I got some dental insurance back in my life for a year and I don’t want my dentist to yell at me.

  50. Katie Says:

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is my all time favorite. Good work on that. Also – peanut MMs are my kryptonite – I can’t even start.

The key to my consistent flossing is to buy those little plastic flossers they sell with the floss already strung on the handle – they turned me into a daily flosser -I LOVE them. Buy them – you will be a convert. :-)

  51. Katharina Says:

Oh my goodness girl! Sounds like you’ve had a hectic past couple of days. I hope you get to accomplish those things and catch up with your old friends! Old friends are sometimes like little re-chargers :)

As for the flossing challenge.. lol I’ll start with brushing my teeth at night. Uuugh that sounds so gross that I don’t do that.. :\ I feel like I should stop talking about this nasty habit of mine ahha!

  52. Emily Says:

Flossing challenge…I should probably jump on board! haha

LOVEEEE all of the eats! Esp. the PEanut M&M’s! :D

  53. Maggie Says:

Ohh, I hate flossing :( I don’t even own floss. Maybe I’ll go get some.
