While sleeping in until NOON today and lazing in bed, I had a “End of 2009 Crisis.”
Dramatic? Yes, but that is what I am calling it.
Apparently, blogging has uncovered my inner-most Type A, anal-retentive characteristics. I like to think of myself as a right-brained, free-spirited gal, and I am. But the truth is: I can be a stubborn, perfectionistic, sometimes drama queen, know-it-all who likes to be right all the time too. Have I got that right family + friends?
So, while nursing stomach pains + a migraine + an “I feel like shit” feeling today, I made this…

In case you can’t read my writing scratch, that says, “My End of 2009 Goals.”
Inspired by the likes of this gal and that gal, I made this list. Even though we all know I am horrible with to-do lists, for the record, this is a GOAL list. Completely different.
- Sleep 8 hours a night (no more, no less), which means bed @ 10:30-11pm + up @ 6:30-7am
- Per the yoga challenge, 3 yoga sessions a week alongside 2-3 cardio sessions (at least 30 minutes)
- Remind myself that saying “no” is okay
- Take (up to) 30 minutes to clean my apartment daily (clean living space = clean mind)
- STICK TO MY BUDGET and stay away from Target
- Make weekly to-do GOAL lists as a reminder of things to get done
- Keep my priorities straight: #1: FT job, #2 PT job, #3 family + friends (they are at #3 because most of them live outside Madison), #4 blogging
- And finally, cut myself some slack
And just for the record, I did scratch out to-do and write GOAL…

So there.

love your idea of your end of the year goals!
jenna
I love #1…the right amount of sleep makes all the difference for me! I might just have to make my own end-of-the-year goal list!
P.S. Hope you’re feeling better Holly!
I like this! Why wait for new years resolution? There’s still time in this year!
Glad you are feeling better and I love the idea of lists and goals. Especially at the end of the year – why do we need to wait for January 1st?!
And I love your handwriting
OMG, I think we are the same person! The way you described yourself sounded like you were describing me. Kinda creepy?!.. more like kinda cool! What else is cool is the fact that I ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS write important to do (I mean goal) list headers in that half-block half-not “font” I guess you could call it. People always make fun of me for it, but whatevs…I think it looks down right awesome. Loves it! Loves the goals! Loves you!
xoxo
I am going to totally steal this idea, no time like the present!
I think these are awesome goals.
I think I’m going to make a similar list. And it’s definitely going to include cleaning and sleeping. I think I sleep too much
You are amazing.
Y te quiero.
And I’m obsessed with your handwriting. I think I’m going to try and imitate it.
Great goal list! Very inspiring.
Hope you feel better soon!
Love the idea of an end of year goal list!
Glad to hear you’re feeling better!
Fabulous Goal List! I was just thinking of doing the same thing this week. I think it’s so imporant to write out our goals, short-term, long-term, whatever, just writing them out and seeing them totally helps make them real.
Thanks for your helpful advice on my last post. That is so interesting and could quite possibly be what is going on with me. I really hope that whatever it is, they will be able to find out soon. It’s making my life HELL!
Hope you are having a great week girl!
your handwriting looks just like my best friend Margaret’s, which makes me like you even more. (is that weird?)
The goals are a great idea, you might inspire me to make my own list!
I love making goals like that….and I love your handwriting too, by the way.
Oh, and the homemade cranberry sauce is super, super easy. I simply boil 1 c. water + 1/2 c. sugar, and throw in 1 c. frozen cranberries. Then you just cook it until it thickens, and voila! I like it cold or hot…either way, it’s delicious. Sometimes I’ll add orange rind for a punch of extra flavor too.
you are preaching to the choir, girl.. “anal, a-type, perfectionist” is my middle name. Okay, not really (no kidding) though I would prob. prefer that to my real middle name *hides in embarassment*
best of luck to you in your goals, pooks! I have no doubts in ya
i like your list! mine looks pretty similar…
I gosh darnit I love lists! . . . now who’s type A
I love goal lists. They always help to keep me in line.
Good luck with your goals! They sound great
First of all, I really like your handwriting. So there.
Second of all, I hope you feel better soon and you are really motivated to make a “goal list” when you feel like crap.
I’m impressed. xoxo
I need to make a goal list. I seriously suck at that kind of stuff.
honeyyyy. i just caught up times 4. first off, SICK?! bah. get well, get well soon we want you to get welllll (seinfeld style, seen it?) anywho.. loved the butternut penne & brussels. i feel like i am always reading multiple posts at a time these days, bear with me. love your list. shit, i love lists in general and yours is fantastic. go you. and i love your handwriting. i think ive said that. LOVE YOU!! feel better bella.
I should make that list for next year
Have to thunk on it though not sure what to put it on. WELL I do but do I want to write it down
Great list and isn’t yoga awesome.
I love this. I need this. I am bad with lists.
Love the list and I know you can cross off those items to end the year right! Good luck!
My friends and I exchange our goal lists via email (We are retarded Type A’s.) and we even have assessment, monitoring, and reporting. And we do this monthly, quarterly, and yearly. Hahaha.
Oh no, writing that down makes me seem like a control freak.
LOVE those goals! i need to do some myself..hope u get better asap!
You can knock “Have the most perfect handwriting ever.” off of your goal list. How can you even make your handwriting adorable?!?!
I’m sorry that you are sick, girl! At least you will have an interesting book on the way to you from Amazon! I get migraines too! They suck, don’t they? I need to do a goal list!
Feel better!
Sounds like a perfect way to end off the year!! I like the clean 30 minutes a day one. I’m horribly messy, and it’s doing nothing to ease my daily stress.
Hope you’re starting to feel better love! xo
AaaaahhhHHH. Please get better my poodle headed journalist. Here’s a little cud for you to chew on:
Imagine you’ve never seen a rose. You go to rose school and spend years studying about roses until you know everything intellectually about what a rose is. You graduate from rose school and you believe you now know the meaning of a rose. Then you are finally shown a rose and find that no amount of intellect can provide an understanding of the meaning of the rose as the knowledge gained from experiencing its presence.
Good luck!! You can do it
“End of 2009 crisis” seems to be pretty rampant right now- this year has FLOWN by and suddenly I realise there is so.much.stuff I meant to get done/have accomplished. Not to undermine the progress I have (OR you, chica) have made though- don’t forget the progress you HAVE made this year
Good luck with the goals- keep us updated on how they are going!
I am totally inspired by this! I think its wonderful to have a Goal list, and what a better time to do it, there’s no need to have to wait till after the new year! I so want to do this, because i feel like i always get more accomplished and taken care of when i have it written down and its smack dab right in front of me! Thanks Holly!
Your gonna do great with all your goals, i just know it! Your such a strong and inspirational person!
kisses girl!
Can I just say I love how you had to add a “stay away from target” addendum to the stick to your budget goal?? It’s so true!! And I loved how you aligned your priorities, too. I am constantly reminding myself that blogging is a hobby, not a job or something that should add more stress to my life. Hope you are feeling better! xoxo
This is a great idea! This way you can face 2010 with confidence
YEAH! Go Holly, go! I am with you 100% on:
#2,3,4 and 8.
My end of year goals…I should write those. They actually include having some fun after 9 months of relative poverty and stress. Bring on christmas parties, some pampering and fun. In moderation! Love youxxx
Love it! And LOVE your handwriting. I hope you feel better hon!
I think I could use the same sort of list….hmmm, will add that to my to-do list
I love making lists like these. I made one yesterday! Hope you reach your goals!!
Maggie
This is a great idea! I really like the “take 30 minutes to clean the apartment goal”. If I would do this it wouldn’t take me 3 hours to clean my condo when I finally get around to it!
i looove your blog! just thought i’d let you know
xoxox
shelley
You’re so adorable Holls. And I hope you feel better!!!
The to-do…..i mean, er, GOAL list sounds fab! And i know that it’s totally achievable! But remember, if you don’t accomplish everything iz no big deal, since remember that last goal! “CUT YOURSELF SOME SLACK”!!!
But we still haven’t caught up yet which makes me sad! Hopefully we will sometime this weekend since i’ll surely be glued to the computer. 4 papers + thanksgiving break 5 days away, all i wanna do is get my shiz doneeee!! LOVE YOU!
I agree with what I saw on your list, “a clean living space makes life much easier.” I like that you’re so honest about yourself and always willing to be humbled. Also, I identified with every single one of your truthful characteristics listed, of course!
Lovng the Yoga Challenge Goal girl! I just finished day 20 of my 30 Day Bikram Yoga Challenge. So, so good. Hope you are feeling much much better!
my my i must say you have some beautiful handwriting! and a good list to top haha
You’re speaking my mind Miss Holly. Aggcckkk.
But best of luck with your crisis, you seem to be handling it matter of factly, and similar to how I would tackle something of that same nature.
BTW- I love your handwriting. I saw it on the hand written card on PB+Jenny’s profile- needless to say, I’m in love.
30 min a day to clean.. hmmmmmmm that is amazing. does that include doing the dishes? if i could get myself to do 1 hr a week, i think id be pretty proud of myself.
youz so inspiring, Holly. 4 serio! that’s why you my mama!
HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS. please tell me you are feeling better too!
i love your list
it is great! we can all be critical of ourselves, but you are an awesome person!
