The Giving of Thanks

HAPPY (BELATED) THANKSGIVING!!!

I hope you all had a wonderful, food-filled and enjoyable day – mine was definitely (d) all of the above.  It started out yesterday morning at 8am with a DELICIOUS bowl of Pumpkin Oatmeal!

1/3 cup oats
1/3 cup water + 1/3 cup organic skim milk
1/3 cup canned pumpkin
drizzle of agave
cinnamon, nutmeg + ginger
small handful almonds + walnuts
sprinkle of Kashi GoLean Crunch
1 small spoonful PB

The best part? I got Mama Everythingtarian hooked on pumpkin oatmeal.  Turkey day success.

The rest of the morning looked a little something like this…

Slide3

A lil’ Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, cookin’ Paula Deen-style with sticks of buttah, lunch (Mary’s crack, hummus, Italian veggies, cottage cheese, carrots + sunflower seed salad along with apples + PB) and setting the Thanksgiving table (which was done by sissy #4).

Then at 5:30pm, we sat down to feast!!!

Slide1

Ummmmm….YES PLEASE!

Here is my plate of goodness…

glass of organic malbec
fruit salad
sweet potatoes (with brown sugar + mallows)
buttery corn
green bean casserole
Sissy #3’s homemade Pumpkin Bread
stuffing
multigrain roll

CIMG6336

Twas’ the perfect amount of food (plus a couple more bites of stuffing + GB casserole + yams).  The fam cleaned up quick, watched “The Office” (repeat of Jim + Pam’s wedding = LOVE) then played more games.

We are a game-playing family…today’s face-off: CRANIUM!!!!

Post-win para moi, we all enjoyed dessert.  Believe it or not, I don’t love pumpkin pie.  Which in theory, makes no sense.  I heart pumpkin.  For some reason though, I don’t love the pie form.  However, I do J’ADORE my mom’s apple crisp.  So that it was…Apple Crisp with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream!

Then we parked it back on the couch to watch Love Actually.  I actually LOVE that movie :) .

So…what am I thankful for on this holiday?

Slide2More than anything, these crazy people who happen to be my family and who I happen to love very, very much.

A couple thangs…

Happy belated Thanksgiving everyone!  What are you thankful for this year?

    jenna

  16. Ohhh, Holly, that looks so lovely! I particularly like the collage of eats and family.

Green Bean casserole is one of my all time favorite dishes. It makes me a little sad, because it totally reminds me of my late Grandmother. She was queen of that recipe. I’ve tried to recreate it, but I swear, she had the magic touch.

That Apple Crisp looks ah-maz-ing. A La Mode, too? Oh, yes.

  17. Looks like you had a LOVELY celebration and family time! xoxo

  18. FABULOUS looking food with such a happy family I totally feel you on the whole loving-pumpkin but not pumpkin pie thing. I’m the same way, and totally would have gone for the apple crisp as well!

  19. Susan says:

I don’t know them, but I already love your family. They eat good food AND can be defeated at Cranium :P

I’ve never had green bean casserole! Apparently, I haven’t lived.

Have fun with the fam!! <3

  20. Jenny says:

for some reason I am not surprised one bit at the amazingness of your family’s food fare — y’all are just ridiculously amazing!

p.s. thanks so much for your comment on my blog, Hollybear. It helps so much to know that I’m not the only one who felt I “indulged” and you are absolutely right — today is a new day and the indulgences were absolutely worth it! :)

    love you!

  21. The pumpkin oatmeal looks fab! My mom loves the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I actually got stuck in the crowds yesterday trying to get to my in-laws.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  22. K says:

I watched Love Actually last night, too! I LOVEEEEEEE that movie!! I hate how on TV (well, at least Lifetime) they cut so much of the backstory between the “actors” because it doesn’t make much sense.

Glad you had a great Thanksgiving :)

  23. What a lovely Thanksgiving! :D The spread of food looks awesome, and time spent with family is so much fun. :D

I’m most thankful for my family, friends, and being healthy and happy. :D

  24. Bekah says:

Cheers to holiday parades, family and pumpkin oats.

All of the above is awesome.:)

  25. Lauren says:

Oh Holly, this THanksgiving was just perfect! Everything looked delicious and your family is adorable!!! :)

I would choose the apple crisp over the pumpkin pie any day too! And this is coming from a PUMPKIN OBESSEED girl, so that is saying a lot. AS much as I love my pumpkin, the pie just isn’t the best dessert.

Hope you enjoy your weekend love!

  26. Looks like a great day of food! And I agree about the pumpkin pie :-)

  27. Wonderful celebration! :)

    Happy (late) Thanksgiving!!

  28. Faith says:

I’m glad you had a fantastic Thanksgiving! Your holiday spread looks incredible, especially the sweet potatoes!

  29. Lizzy says:

    Happy Thanksgiving sugar plum! :)

  30. Maya says:

I love love LOVE Love Actually! I watch it every holiday season…multiple times.

It ain’t Christmas without Hugh Grant.

  31. Christina says:

hey holly! looks like you guys had a very nice thanksgiving!! that pumpkin bread that your sister made looks great and that apple crisp? AHH give meee!! I am the same way as you– not a HUGE fan of pies…would much rather have something like a crisp

  32. Jenny says:

Wow what a great turkey day! And getting your momma hooked on oatmeal is definitely a success in my book!

Y’alls meal looks fab, that is really funny that you don’t enjoy pumpkin pie tho ;)

And Love Actually is SO my go-to movie to put me in the Christmas spirit!

  33. So green bean casserole looks crazy! As does that sweet potato concoction! Your family apparently does it UP for T-day. No Turkey for you though?
I ate so much I was full for six hours (count em) including: turkey, mash tats, swanky stuffing (with bacon etc), brussels, roasted parsnips and PIE. For that, I am grateful.
I also don’t like pumpkin pie much. Weird consistency – I had blueberry and twas amazing!

  34. Your family looks like a lot of fun! My husband and I are all time Cranium champions in Ireland and the US. Bring it on!

  35. Kristen says:

Ooh, I’m jealous of the Cranium action! :-)

  36. Mama Pea says:

Your family looks so fun! Can you please marry my older brother and then we can be sisters? Please??!?!? You know you want to be an auntie ;)

  37. Pumpkin oats–such a perfect way to kick of Thanksgiving Day!
Cramiun–love it, but seriously, that game is hard!

  38. Alison says:

Happy belated Thanksgiving to you too Holly gurl! Looks like you had a rockin’ holday with your family – the absolute best kind.

  39. Looks like a fab day- you have the most adorable family, Holly! :D

Cranium rocks my worls- if we ever get together, I challenge you to a game!

Oh, pumpkin pie V apple crisp that looks as good as that? I think I would go for the crisp too, despite my love of pumpkin.

  40. My mom loves the parade, but I didn’t watch it this year. Sad. You know, I kind of feel the same way about pumpkin pie. It’s kind of a waste of pumpkin! Much better in oats or cottage cheese, I think :) xoxo

  41. Kathleen says:

Your Thanksgiving looks georgeous! Though that pumpkin oatmeal looks like the best of all, haha! I need to try that ASAP :)
Ps, and LOVE the pics of the parade! The Rocketts are the bestttt :)

  42. Looks & sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving! :)

I have been feeling a bit sorry for myself lately, but to be honest, I have so much to be thankful for! And I try to focus on it every day…

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  43. Traci says:

Looks like you had an awesome Thanksgiving! Spent the day with my silly, crazy family too. So much fun. So much to be thankful for…Family, friends, a job I love, health, and …the fact that I’m on Day 28 of my 30 Day Bikram Challenge today! Go try a Bikram class…You’ll LOVE it! Happy your day was great girl!

  44. Woo! What a wonderful day!
Glad you had fun at the parade!

  45. Ahhh!!! I want your thanksgiving plate times TEN. Everything looks beyond amazing.

You know what I really miss now that I don’t have wi-fi round the clock? Our g-chat sessions! Shoooo. Got your email though–hilar.

    Anyway, MISS YOU LOVE YOU!!!

  46. Low says:

  49. jessica says:

Could we be any more alike?!?! Soooooo i’m not the BIGGEST fan of pumpkin pie but absolutely adore apple. homemade pumpkin bread sounds FANTASTIC. and cranium is like, my favorite game ever. I always try to convince my fam to play whenever we’re all together but we haven’t in years!!!!!!!!

you, me, my single bro, and maybe you find a boy for me (wink, wink!!!!) could all play together in the near future!! HAHHAHA, whata dream! LOVE YOU!!!!!! talk soon. xoxoox

  50. janetha says:
