High to the Vee
It’s almost Friiiiddayyyyyyyy!
Gah, I love that feeling.
Especially since there is going be perhaps the best road trip EVA happening on Saturday, which I am obviously not going to give away any secrets too. Y’all just gots to come back this weekend and see the shenanigans for yourself! Okay, okay…one hint: let’s just say it involves jousting. And that’s all I’m sayin’.
Yesterday was an AMAZING food day, but I didn’t take any pictures. That is really too bad because the day included roasted brussel sprouts + 1 entire cut-up pineapple for dinner last night. Twas’ amazing.
This morning however, I started out with the ol’ standby: AB+B on Ezekiel bread with coffee.
And sprinkled with cinnamon, of course
.
Then in an attempt to clean out my fridge, the rest of the days eats were the definition of ‘mondo rando’ snackage…
(clockwise from top left: carrots + AB, two pepperjack cheese sticks, Kashi Honey Sunshine cereal, Wallaby Organic Banana Vanilla yogurt + two clementines)
Along with like six cups of tea in a variety of flavors. I drink lotsa tea. It’s becoming quite an addiction.
After work, my co-workers/friends and I headed off to this girl’s favorite place…
Awwwww yeahhhhhhh…talk about a salad bar!
I don’t even remember all the thangs I shoved in my plastic container, but I will give it a shot:
- baby spinach
- mixed greens
- cherry tomatoes
- onion
- green pepper
- red pepper
- 1 hardboiled egg
- carrots
- sunflower seeds
- CRUNCHY PEAS!!!!!!
- banana peppers
- 4 kinds of pasta salad
- wild rice salad
- TACO DIP!!!!!
- tortilla chips
I also ate a crab rangoon wonton (donated by Brett), some pineapple and hunk of jalapeno cheddar focaccia (donated by Casey), plus refills of Diet Coke. It was heartbreakingly good. I didn’t want it to end. Ever.
I may have also bought $15.52 of groceries I didn’t need. I got this crazy idea to find all the weirdest foods I could and buy them. Soon you will see what my wallet hates me for…soon (as in most likely, tomorrow).
When I arrived home after a two-hour Hyvee date with my peeps, I came home to find this…
An Anthropologie-worthy card along with pumpkin ginger cookies, marzipan and tea – all from the gorgeous, creative and fabulous Katharina! Seriously, if you have not checked out her blog, go! As in now. I swear she could make a lump of high fructose corn syrup, lard and pork rings look appetizing.
On another note…
The folks over at I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter are re-launching their product with no trans fats or hydrogenated oils! As part of their launch, they sent me a lil’ flip HD camera to record a commercial for their new campaign, Turn the Tub Around, starring the fabulous Megan Mullally. Even though my video didn’t make the cut (were the rainbow rainboots and black biking shorts too much for you?), you should head over and check it out. Any attempt to make a product healthier for the masses gets my seal of approval
.
And with that, I’m out. I joined Netflix, and my first movie came: Donnie Darko (starring my husband-to-be Jake Gyllenhaal). If we are going to get married, the least I can do is see all his movies, right?
Do you like tea? Are you addicted like I am? What is your favorite flavor of the moment? Yes. Yes. Candy Cane Lane (decaf mint green tea).
What is your favorite movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal? My favorite movie of all time is The Cutting Edge, Good Will Hunting or Singin’ in the Rain. My fave Jakey film is October Sky.

I am IN LOVE WITH TEA. I only started drinking it this year (prompted by finally using the non-matching tea cups my grandmother gave me). But now I drink it in handmade pottery mugs that hold 16oz BayBee! I love the Tea Guys TEASE. Chocolate Delight and Green Walnut are my favorite flavors (discovered in a Mt Horeb coffee shop BTW). My other equally favorite flavors are sugar cookie sleigh ride (I have 5 boxes to last me the year. oh that won’t be enough !?!?!) and egg noggin (thanks to your tower post). LOVE Tea. Warms the tummy and makes me satisfied when I “think” I’m hungry.
I need to get to HyVee one of these days after work.
I don’t know what my fav movie is. Hmm. I remember loving slingblade (of all things LOL). And I actually love Jim carey movies even though I couldn’t stand him before I turned 32 (2 years ago)…
January 7th, 2010 at 9:25 pm
Crunchy peas? Maybe a veggie I’d like?! I LOVED The Cutting Edge growing up . . .I felt like a lot of people didn’t see it though???
And as for tea – I don’t like it at all. Wish I did. It is never sweet enough for me. I feel like I’m drinking dirty water.
January 7th, 2010 at 9:32 pm
dude, how could they not take your commercial? at least you got a flip outta the deal!
tea? yogi ginger tea. fo sho.
movie? zoolander = quality. yeah, i’m a cultured intellect, i know.
January 7th, 2010 at 9:35 pm
i would like a hyvee, please! bottomless salad bars are my FAVORITE. speaking of favorites…
my favorite kind of tea is rooibos! starbucks got me hooked with the vanilla rooibos latte, and i found out i can make something that tastes pretty similar at home with unsweetened vanilla almond milk, rooibos and stevia. SO GOOD. but candy cane lane is a close second!
oh, and fav movie with jake? the good girl, definitely! fav movie ever? harold & maude.
January 7th, 2010 at 9:36 pm
Wow! That salad beast looks amazing!! Probs one of the best salads I have ever seen on the blog!

OMG OMG…Candy Cane Lane is my ABSOLUTE FAV tea. I managed to get my hand on 3 boxes of sugar cookie sleigh ride but 1 lil box of candy cane lane. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT
and I have way too much tea right now…I am not allowed to buy anymore. I should save my money for YARN!
I have a flip mino camera but it won’t let me post videos on WP…boo
luv ya!
January 7th, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Not a huge tea fan, but if I’m going to drink it I prefer it cold. In this weather that’s not so appealing.
I can’t watch your video on my jacked/stolen internet but I will! I can only imagine the glory that is you in black biking shorts and rainbow boots!
Jake Gyllenhaal is a perfect male specimen. Dark, brooding, intelligent, killer smile. Swoon. Enjoy Donnie Darko. Good movie.
January 7th, 2010 at 10:05 pm
I think HyVee is in the top 10 things I miss about the midwest… I LOVE LOVE LOVE tea. I drink an absurd amount every day. I am currently obsessed with Stash’s Ginger Peach green tea. My number one favorite movie is High Fidelity. My favorite Jakey Pie movie is actually the one you are enjoying right now! Oh Donnie Darko. You blew my mind in high school and things definitely haven’t changed years later.
January 7th, 2010 at 10:07 pm
dang. if we had a tellie show, id love it to be called, healthy snack nut diaries. itd be more popular than “the situation” or even Speidie’s god awful show. We must get started because television is starting to get worse the older MTV gets!
I adore peppermint tea from TJ’s right now. It is so soothing. nom nom. especially with added splenda that i stole from work bc i kept forgetting to buy it!
ok going to eat a salad and have some cereal as a second dinner because i am hungry…idk it is 10 pm. shit, i rock late night cereal eats. im ser turning into snackface. oh and you for that matter, because my breakie was exactly like yours today! we are all freakishly the same. i dig it.
January 7th, 2010 at 10:13 pm
I LOVE tea! But I am very, very picky! I love peppermint and Russian tea, they are my favorites. But I also love green tea! I tried the sugar cookie and just wasn’t in love. I really need to give it another try though!
Have fun on your road trip!

January 7th, 2010 at 10:21 pm
We watched Donnie Darko at Bible Study last year, it was okay.
I am starting to like Hy-Vee, although it will never be my Cub or Whole Foods!
January 7th, 2010 at 10:29 pm
I wish there were salad bars around here!
My favorite flavor of tea would have to be the Celestial Seasonings Gingerbread (better stock up…)
I’d have to say one of my fav. movies is Pirates of the Caribbean (or anything Disney for that matter)
January 7th, 2010 at 10:31 pm
We spent $30 at the grocery store tonight on cheese (x3), guacamole, salsa and french bread. Over the top, for sure. But delicious too.
I am REALLY getting into herbal teas! I mean, obviously I am addicted to normal tea but I never thought I could like the others. Turns out I am a BIG fan of: lemon, ginger and honey (homemade), peppermint, yogi’s throat soothing, and green tea. Yum.
January 7th, 2010 at 10:34 pm
UMM that salad bar sounds AMAZING!! crunchy peas?! never heard of them!
January 7th, 2010 at 10:49 pm

Hi Holly! This is Courtney Sanders..back from Streefland days! I happened upon your blog and I have to say it I love it! I am currently getting my registered dietitians license so it is of particular interest..ha! Nice work.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:10 am
AMAZING salad bar creation–love the idea of adding in a few chips for my beloved crunch factor. Can I hire you to make salad bar salads for me?
I am crazy-addicted to tea (have been for years), and coincidentally the flavor of the week is Candy Cane Lane:)
January 8th, 2010 at 12:24 am
I love tea, but I have to be in the mood. Usually, I prefer coffee. Cauz I’m that intense.
AH ho hoho! I see you joined Netflix! Sold you soul to the devil! Don’t get too hooked! >.<
January 8th, 2010 at 12:33 am
tea. meh. Coffee= love.
“An Anthropologie-worthy card along with pumpkin ginger cookies”–a blogger’s dream care package you lucky girl!
I gave u a little shout today in my post as you’ve been so helpful in my cutting back conundrum. Thank you my sweets
January 8th, 2010 at 5:51 am
Tea is the nectar of the Gods. That is my firm belief. My favorite is easily yerbe mate. It comes in so many great varieties and keeps my neurons all a’buzz way more than coffee could ever hope to. (Please note that I’m still a shameless coffee junkie as well.)
I love your junk salad! Ecclectically fabulous!
January 8th, 2010 at 5:54 am
Brussels and lots of pineapple? Sounds like deliciousness to me! Can’t wait to see your take on the commercial. I don’t really like tea- wish I did!
January 8th, 2010 at 6:01 am
You ate an entire pineapple for dinner? Thats AWESOME!!! Pineapple is soooo good right now. I think I have gone through 3 of them in a week. Actually, I’m eating some right now.
Love you so much girly! I made your Sweet potato black bean stuffed squash last night and channeled my inner Holly with each bite. SOOOO good my love!
January 8th, 2010 at 6:41 am
Is that all candy cane is? Sho, I can make that up myself! Good to know.
I have a whole dish cabinet devoted to tea and coffee. My all time favorite is early grey with lavender.
January 8th, 2010 at 7:29 am
I seriously love Donnie Darko! It may be in my top 10 movies! And it doesn’t hurt that Jake Gyllenhaal is awesome! Hope you enjoyed it!
January 8th, 2010 at 7:47 am
I am such a coffee girl, that I seriously have not given tea a try. Every time I see those Celestial Seasonings holiday flavors, though I want to change my mind
Favorite Jake Gyllenhall movie? Either your Netflix pick, Donnie Darko, or Zodiac because it throws Robert Downey Jr. into the mix!
January 8th, 2010 at 7:53 am
I love tea…definitely more of a coffee girl, but there’s always room for tea too!
Candy cane is one of my faves too, along with chocolate mint and blueberry green. Mmm…
Favorite movie would have to go to The Last of the Mohicans. I don’t know why, but I cry every time. haha…
January 8th, 2010 at 8:00 am
JAKEEEE…man, so sexy! Haha, I kind of liked him in Brokeback…don’t judge! And omgggg, YAY for FRIDAYYY
Have a fannnnntastic weekend girl!
January 8th, 2010 at 8:02 am

January 8th, 2010 at 8:02 am
Looks like there are lots of exciting things happening in Healthy Everythingtarian land…
And seeing your salad makes me want to run to a salad bar! I think it’s about time for an “interesting” salad again…
Happy Weekend, Holly!
January 8th, 2010 at 8:13 am
Donnie Darko is such a good movie!!! Do you love it? My favorites of all time are The Apartment (SEE IT!!!), Punch-Drunk Love, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind…. list goes on!
Can’t wait to see your shenanigans

January 8th, 2010 at 8:46 am
I have never seen a Jakey movie. That is sad, because he is certainly a dimepiece. With Reese outta the way you have a wide open highway to love with that kid! Go for it!
January 8th, 2010 at 8:47 am
Oh, can’t wait to hear about your weekend shenanigans!
I am a huge tea drinker. Usually English Breakfast but lately I have been getting into other flavours… Just ran out of sugar cookie sleigh ride (never fell head over heels in it) and nearing the end of my nutcracker tea which is delish. I got some chai yesterday which is growing on me!
January 8th, 2010 at 8:49 am
Ah Donnie Darko- that soundtrack alone is enough to love that movie. Not to mention the irrepressible Sparkle Motion! And special guest appearance by Swayze?!
Weird Science still holds a place in my fav movie vault. Gary, Wyatt, Chet, Lisa, Nanny and Grampy? Loves it.
January 8th, 2010 at 9:07 am
I’m glad I can’t Believe Its Not Butter is doing a makeover.. it’s the perfect butter for baking (well, only because you can buy it cheap at Costco) but that’s besides the point!
And I drink tea 24/7. I love green tea.. I have one that’s chai green tea and it’s delicious!
Oh and by the way you know that little old man in my nursing picture that you always love? He’s featured in my post today.. that’s my grandpa! haha!
January 8th, 2010 at 9:16 am
Ah, don’t you just love cleaning out the fridge? It makes deciding what to eat so much easier.
As for movies, I’m really diggin’ anything with Meryl Streep right now. She can do no wrong. Julie & Julia, Doubt, Devil Wears Prada, Fantastic Mr. Fox (yes I’m dying to see it).
Enjoy the freakin’ weekend (R.Kelly style)!
January 8th, 2010 at 9:27 am
Oh I LOVEEE that salad! I need summa dat in my life right now!
So, I read this post after I went out last night…and I’m proud to say that I do remember the contents of the post!
You also led me to Katharina’s blog, which is fabulous and gorgeous.
So, my fave tea is Shoog Cookie Sleigh Ride. It’s ridiculous. Anything holiday, really.
Shooo,I do not have a fave movie, but I’ll share the movies I’ve watched and loved as of late: Gray Gardens (fascinating), The Hangover (my life), Julie and Julia (DEF my/our life/lives) aaand some oldies but goodies: PS I love you and I’m cheesy, A League of Their Own, Clueless, Fried Green Tomatoes. And anything Jake.
LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!! And I hope you have an amazing weekend! xoxoxoxox
January 8th, 2010 at 9:27 am
An entire pineapple?! Me likey!! That stuff is so delicious!
I TRY to be a tea lover but it just tastes like warm, flavored water to me. Blah. The Cutting Edge – hahahah, love it! I have FAR too many movies to list!
January 8th, 2010 at 9:50 am
okay, we need a Hyvee! no salad bars like that here.
Donnie Darko was the FIRST movie we ever got from Netflix – it’s crazy!
I love tea – I don’t think I’ve had a tea I didn’t like, actually.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:41 am
I LOVE TEA!! Every morning I drink rose green tea
Lately I’ve been drinking tons of liver and kidney tea.. it tastes really good I can’t help it lol. I hope you like the Richmond Blend tea!! It’s very strong so I suggest trying it plain first if you usually sweeten your teas. I am sooo glad you got the package! And dang Holly, way to make me blush :p
I have never heard of this Hyvee! The only salad bars I know of around here are Whole Foods and Sweet Tomato. You should watch Breathless now that you’ve got Netflix – you can watch it online as well
My favorite movie of all time is Amelie. It never ever gets old.
I can’t wait to see what funky foods you got your hands on!!!
January 8th, 2010 at 12:01 pm
Tea’s OK(I like decaf english breakfast) but I have to think my beloved coffee is where it’s at. It’s becoming a pricey addiction, but I keep paying like the grocery store’s my dealer
January 8th, 2010 at 12:13 pm
ONE QUESTION AND ONE QUESTION ONLY:
WHAT ARE CRUNCHY PEAS EXACTLY?!!?!?! I LOVE PEAS, AND THANGS THAT CRUNCH, BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN CRUNCHY PEAS. EXPLAIN.
THANK YOU,
BROOKE MCCALLION
XOXOOXOX love youOOUOUOU!
January 8th, 2010 at 12:54 pm
Fav flavor of tea? Kombucha Green tea from Yogi – don’t worry it doesn’t taste like vinegar.
January 8th, 2010 at 1:08 pm
I didn’t know there were HyVee’s in Madison?!?! I guess I have never been to one…the salad bar sounds great though!
January 8th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
a jousting trip, eh? sign me up.
oh my god Donnie Darko is amaze! it’s so creepy and unconventional and intriguing. I really need to watch it again. I’d love to hear how you like it
p.s. Jake is perfection <3
January 8th, 2010 at 6:18 pm
What is this Hyvee place you speak of and how can I get it to New Brunswick?? Also, I love that you went for FOUR kinds of pasta salad AND taco dip. I love that sh*t.
I don’t drink a lot of tea!! I dunno, I’m just not a “sipper” and I’ve never found a flavour that has completely “wowed” me (cause, no matter what, it still always tastes like flavoured hot water)
Fave movie EVER is High Fidelity. I think I like Maggie Gyllenhaal movies better though. Stranger Than Fiction and Secretary are must-watches!!
January 9th, 2010 at 10:44 am
Jousting. Now there’s a guaranteed entertaining time.
Tea? Sugar cookie sleigh ride or Lipton’s Honey Lemon black tea
Jake film? LOVE October Sky, but also he was endearing in Brothers. Even though I was not a fan of the film as a whole.
January 9th, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Such a cute card! Eeek that marzipan chocolate went straight from the package into my mouth. Not even joking. So good.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:04 pm
*sigh* the cutting edge! i think i watched it, or at least bits of it, at least 3 times over the past few weeks. ‘You been doin’ what? Finger painting??’ haha love!
