A Madtown Meet-Up

This morning began with the classic stylings of a good ol’ cereal breakfast…

Kellogg’s Special K lowfat granola + organic skim milk + banana makes for a no-fail cereal combo.  Topped off with a cup of coffee (w/ milk), I was definitely wanting more cereal AND coffee.  AND sleep, for that matter.

Work was crazytown.  All day.

Hence, that is why I grabbed and ate these mini-meals throughout the day when I had the chance.

I believe an orange + 4 coffee Nibs candies were enjoyed sometime amidst the chaos this afternoon.

When I got home, I wanted to eat everything in sight, including the bottle of olive oil and ground coffee sitting on my counter. Instead, I relied on two cups of coffee + a stellar wrap to tide me over until my very special 8:30pm dinner date.

1 La Tortilla whole grain wrap
1 tbsp. almond butter
1 tbsp. raspberry jelly
sprinkle of cinnamon
1 tbsp. carob chips

It was microwaved for 45 seconds until melty and delish, then devoured in about 45 seconds.

At 8:20pm, I hopped in Blue Betty (a.k.a. my car) and jetted off to….HARVEST!!!

What’s so special about Harvest, you ask?

Julie, Allison, Kristie, Shelley and moi!

These lovely ladies! (And a gourmet meal for cheap, thanks to Madison Restaurant Week!)

Food bloggers + local, organic restaurant + $25, 3-course meal = TRUE LOVE.

Or TRUE CRAZINESS.  Whichever you prefer ;) .

I apologize for the crappy pics (dim lighting) and frizzy hair (can’t control the ‘fro) in advance.

This restaurant specializes in contemporary, local and organic food.  Ding ding, we have a winner!  We started things off with some bread n’ buttah

…continued on with some curried pumpkin soup

…followed up with the main course of lentil and mushroom shepherd’s pie

…and all topped off with cinnamon ice cream! (!!!!)

Twas’ a lovely affair! Thank you Julie, Allison, Kristie and Shelley for all the fun, chatting and laughs!

And yes, for the record, we are already planning on doing it again :) .

With that, it is 11:18pm and wayyyyyyy past this gal’s bedtime.  If you haven’t already, don’t forget to enter my giveaway for a single serve blender + frozen fruit coupons!

Do you prefer eating a square 3 meals per day or spacing it out mini-meal style? Depends on the day for me – sometimes its square meals, sometimes its mini meals!

To all you readers + bloggers, have you had a bloggy meet-up yet? Besides tonight, you know me and my girl Angharad like to hang!

OMG deeeelicious eats all day! That wrap! You know how I do–snackin’ it all day. I technically have three meals, too, but they’re rather small. I think? I don’t even know anymore!

Everyone looks beautiful! I love blogger meet-ups! I’ve met (and loved): Brookebaby, Danielle, Sarah, Elise, Lauryn, Lo, Megan, Missy, some more I’m forgetting. And I’m about to meet….top secret. (!!!!!!!!!!!)

OK, I have five essays to read. It is 12:35am and I’m getting up at 7am. EEK!!!

Love you so much! Thanks for helping me with my h-dub :D xoxoxo

  3. Julie @SavvyEats Says:

I had SO much fun! Next month, yes?

Apparently Allison and I didn’t get the ‘make a funny face’ memo… ;)

  4. Kristie Says:

Hehe yay there we are! I love the funny face picture – I think Allison + Julie not getting it makes it even better :)

  5. Jessica Lee Says:

We have a Chicago Restaurant week too. It’s probably the best week ever. I wish it was for a month :)

Hope you guys had a lot of fun!

  7. Jamie Says:

good thing you didn’t have a large lunch – Harvest looks delicious and filling! =)

I’m a eat when I get hungry kind’a girl, so mini meals throughout the day works well for me!

… bloggers do that? I guess I haven’t been blogging that long, but after being around for awhile I could see it would be fun! =)

  8. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) Says:

Look at all those cutie patooties!!!! Wish i coulda been there. If only it were in like South Beach. Madison in the winter…oh freezing my bootay off is off limits :)

    Got your emails, muah….!!!!
    love u honey!

  9. Shelley Says:

aw that was so much funn!! you are awesome :) seriously! we definitely will have to do that again

  10. Sarah (Finding My Balance) Says:

    what a fabulous meet-up!

i’m like you, i eat depending on the needs of the day, but for the most part i’m a snacker/grazer, lots of little things here and there…

lilveggiepatch is my real-life friend (before the days of blogging), so we hang, but i haven’t met any other bloggers. not even you! boo.

  11. Lexi Says:

I’ve had one bloggie meet up, and I loved it! Plan to do more asap! Glad you enjoyed your meet up!

Great eats! I neeeed to get me some carob chips!

  12. Erica Says:

I’m soooo a mini mealer! I could never do the three square meals. What a fun night out! Love the looks of the pumpkin soup and CINNAMON??!!! ice cream? How awesome. I’ve had a couple blogger meet ups- Kath, Tina & HEAB!

  13. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is Says:

I stick with usually about 4-5 meals a day, but they are all pretty large!! And I have had a little Pittsburgh meet up – LOVE IT!

  14. Lauren Says:

I hate days when I don’t have time to eat a substantial meal. On those crazy days where I snack all day, I may be eating way more, but I never really feel satisfied and then I want to just keep eating all night! I never understood how people can eat like 8 mini meals all day. Not for me.

Glad you had a great night. Looks like it was so much fun! :)

  15. Lauren @ Eater Not a Runner Says:

I’m more of a mini meal type during the day, especially when I’m bored at work!

  16. Haleigh Says:

harvest sounds fantastic! esp curried pumpkin soup.

i adore going to blog meet ups.. it’s so fun to meet the person behind the blog.. there is always an unspoken understanding of each other and so much to talk about!

  17. Morgan @ Life After Bagels Says:

I eat a lot in a day, like as much as my 6 foot one boyfriend! So that means at least 3 meals a day plus tonnes of snacks!

  18. Emily (The Experimentarian) Says:

Oh fun! That is truly the best thing about blogging is meeting new people–and it’s even better when you actually get to meet them in person!

I am totally a three squares a day kind of girl. I like to eat, I like to feel full, and mini snackerals just don’t do it for me most of the time. Of course I snack between meals anyway, but that’s just so I don’t end up completely ravenous. Most of the time after I snack I’m hungrier after than I was before. Dang!

You know I’ve met JB, but one day i hope i get to meet YOU!! xoxo

  19. ellen eats beets Says:

    Fab meetup!!

I like mini meals, but I feel like then I’m constantly hungry all day long. I’m beginning to think I like breakfast, lunch, and then a snacky afternoon/night. Not sure if that the best way to do it, but if I keep it snacky at night, I can have everything I want, without feeling too full, or deprived of delicious goodies!

  20. Matt Says:

I usually eat breakfast, lunch, big snack, dinner, big snack. I like to eat more later in the day since I run really early on an empty stomach.

  21. Whitney @ Lettuce Love Says:

I would love to have a bloggie meet up but I suppose I am in the middle of nowhere! It looks like you all had a lot of fun and really good food :)

  22. Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) Says:

Last night I could barely hold out till my 7pm dinner plans (hungry!!), so I hit up the nearby Whole Foods for free samples :-)

I love blogger meet-ups and I hope someday that WE can meet in person! If you come to NYC, I’ll buy you the baked good of your choice!!

  23. ellie Says:

OOOOOOOOOOOOH! So much fun! I love blogger meet-ups! I had a few in NY and there is one other blogger in Edinburgh that I’ve hung out with a few times. So much fun to meet other people who don’t think it’s crazy to plan an afternoon in Whole Foods or something. Ha…

I eat 3 meals and 1 snack. Never varies.

  24. Mel Says:

Fun meet up, and it looks like the food was amazing…

I’ve only met Biz from Biggest Diabetic Loser and I know Jackie, from Tri-ing to Loose It from high school and college. Who knows, more in the future I hope!

  25. Madeline - Greens and Jeans Says:

I’m lucky enough to live a couple of miles from Averie so we actually have coffee together about once a week! I’m going to be Madison in May so you better pencil me in lady!

  26. Andrea@WellnessNotes Says:

Sounds like a great time! I had my first meet up yesterday, and we got to hear Michael Pollan speak! I know you saw him a few months ago, and I was thinking of you!!! :) Wish we could meet! :) :) :)

  27. Susan Says:

Haha I asked the same question on my blog yesterday! I found out I love my meals – so satisfying.

That blogger meetup looks awesome! You are all stunnas. Good company + good eats = a fab night fosho. I can’t wait for my first blogger meetup : )

  28. Whit Says:

    ahhhhh bloggy meet-ups!!!

I’d say I’m jealous of those ladies for meeting up with you…but ONE WEEEEEK BABAY! and we two shall meet.

LOVE blogger meet ups [just so you know and are not overwhelmed by my excitedness] and have met [besides all of the HLS, in separate meet ups] Haliegh, Meganerd, Kath, Emily, StaceyRuns and Hungrywanderers.

This weekend is actually FULL of blogger meet ups, and of course next week. Crazy.

  29. Whit Says:

and how could I forget meeting up with HEAB in Nashville!!!

[sorry for the ridic amount of commenting]

  30. brandi Says:

how fun! and the food looks awesome! That’s one reason I wish I lived in a bigger city – we don’t have stuff like that here!

I’ve had a few blogger meetups, but I hope for many, many more!

  31. Lizzy Says:

i love this bloggie meet up! you girls are so cute!!!!! miss you chica! :)

ps. i never got the e-mail for the bloggie trip

  32. gina Says:

Girl, I am waaay jealous you still have a Spooky Smores bar!
I definitely like 3 meals, but you’re right, it depends on the day/craziness. I have yet to have a bloggy meet up, but I really want to! :-)

  33. susan (stepping off the coaster) Says:

i was actually just talking about this with a friend yesterday… i have realized that i do much better with several small meals throughout the day… it keeps me from getting too hungry b/c when that happens i tend to overeat, and then i feel sluggish.

it’s a baaaaad combo for me!

so today i was a good girl and packed a series of small eats!

  34. Mama Pea Says:

Love the crazy face! What’s that called again? I know you have a term for it.

The menu at that restaurant looks insanely good!

I hope today is less graze-tastic for you. I feel like I’m eating all day long if I don’t just sit down to a decent meal!

  35. Evan Thomas Says:

I like to spread out my meals. Otherwise I just think about food all day
I haven’t “met up” yet but I will soon!

  36. Katie Says:

What a fun meet-up! I’ve never had one…don’t know any fellow bloggies in Denver. It’s probably a matter of just looking harder. ;-) Or maybe I’m saving my first meet up for when you come out to see your sista in Pueblo.

That wrap looks like it would hit the spot, always. I like mini meals…mostly.

  37. Cindy Says:

    fun fun fun!!!
yes! I just met my first blogger bud Tuesday…

    was the best time ever!

I like to eat meals AND space them out. I shoot for 6 mini meals but it’s more like 3 meals and a snack.

seems to be my trend. Your scarf looks so soft, I want one like that! (not itchy and scratch yarn one)

    :)
your facial expressions always make me SMILE SO BIG. You’re a nut~
    luv ya

  38. Adrien Says:

I just asked that question on my blog today! I think I’m going to switch back to mini meal style to give it a shot for a while- I feel like I need a more even spread of energy through my day..
And no bloggie meet up yet, I’m in Canada- we’re few and far in between I feel..

  39. Naomi(onefitfoodie) Says:

so fun! you all look so cute!!! I havent had a bloggie meet up in boston yet, But I want to so soon!! I prefer to have 3 round meals, although I LOVE to snack…and sometimes make my 3 roudn meals somewhat smaller to allow for more snacking!! :)

  40. Angharad Says:

We do like to hang! I miss you! Glad harvest was the bomb. I am craving ice cream even though i just went for a 2F run and have minor frostbite. mmmm ice cream! xx

  41. Lynn @ The Actors Diet Says:

i’ve been loving my blogger meetups – have had 3 in the last month since i was traveling. stop by my site, by the way – you won our giveaway!

  42. Jenna Says:

I have never tried lil snacks through the day instead of three squared meals but I should try it soon!
    Great blogger meet up!
    Jenna

  43. Low Says:

Yay for a meet-up! I’ve never gotten to do a multi-bloggie meetup like that since there are only two OKC bloggers. But me and Lisa like to hang :)

  44. emily (a nutritionist eats) Says:

What a fun blogging date! I’ve heard GREAT things about Harvest!

  45. janetha ann benson Says:

i love your mini meal steeze! and there is always a need for more cereal, coffee and sleep. jealous of your meetup. you know i prefer the crazy photo. and one more thing.. i think we should meet up somewhere SOON!

  46. Salah@myhealthiestlifestyle Says:

That looks like a great meal! My favorite nutritionist Gillian Mckeef, from a show that comes on the BBC channel called You Are What You Eat, has a recipe for a sweet potato shepherds pie. I plan on trying it very soon!

  47. Kendel Says:

Looks like you had a fantastic time. I would love to have a blogger get-together! If anyone is traveling through Europe, let me know! As far as the food question, I prefer to graze all day but due to my work schedule, 3 square meals and 2 fruit snacks is how I roll.

  48. glidingcalm Says:

    sooo funn!

  49. Alison Says:

Looks like yall had a great time!

I eat 3 square meals and a snack between lunch & dinner and a fairly substantial snack between dinner and bed :)

  51. Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather Says:

What a fun dinner and meetup!! I’m in no way a 3-meal kinda girl… I’m a mini mealer – must eat every 3-4 hours.

  52. The Fit Collegiate Says:

I’ve never been to Harvest but I’ve heard great things! Have you eaten at L’Etoile? It’s divine! They also have a great little organic cafe open for lunch called Cafe Soleil, highly recommend it!

  53. Faith Says:

Love the name of your car, that’s too cute! Those are some fantastic eats on the cheap — gotta love restaurant week! I try to stick with 3 square meals a day plus 2 snacks, but sometimes I like to break up my breakfast and lunch into snacky components…it just feels like more food that way. ;)

  54. Holly Mason Says:

I just do not even think I am capable of doing the “three meal a-day approach.” I am a spread-em-out and snackie kinda gal! What can I say… I like my food and I DO NOT like to be hungry!

haha! HOLLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you are doing AMMMMMAZING!!!!!!! Like- I mean… REALLY AMAZING! happy happy friday to you!

  55. Danielle Says:

Ah luckyyyyyyyyyy. So jealous right now ;) I’ve had my share of bloggie meet-ups, sure, but they always make me crave more. Glad you had such a great time!

P.S. BLD for me. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  56. Yo Mamma Everythingtarian Says:

you forgot to retract the I am “special” comment in your previous blog. I want all you bloggers to know that Ms. Everythingtarian has a couple of aka’s…Klara Klutz and/or Amelia Bedilia oh and sometimes Drama Queen.

  57. Mimi (Damn the Freshman 15) Says:

You’re making me crave a cinnamon protein-milkshake right now!

It’s funny–I sort of drank the Kool-Aid on that “eat 5 meals a day” thing. But finally I wizened up–it’s all about what works best, and eating 5 mini-meals made me think too much about food.

Now, I eat 3 squares and an after-dinner snack. I realize that I virtually never snack between breakfast and lunch, unless I work out, but that’s usually just my breakfast split in half on each side of the workout.

And thank you so much for your comments on my raw article! As an aspiring journalist, that means a lot!

  58. Lara (Thinspired) Says:

Looks like a fun meet-up, and the food looks awesome! What a deal for organic food! I don’t think I’ve ever been to an organic restaurant like that!
I’m definitely a three-meals a day kinda girl! Ok, ok, and sometimes a snack or dessert…does that still count as three?! ;)

  59. ch ch changes… « stepping off the coaster Says:

What a glorious meet-up! I’m determined to meet some bloggies in 2010 ;)

  61. Susan Says:

Yayyy bloggie meet-ups!! I can wait to meet YOU soon!! Aaahhhhh!!!

Sorry. I just had another one of my Banff freakouts ;)

Hopefully next week will be better for you at work? I’m a three meals, three snacks kinda gal. Gotta eat every 3 hours or I die, or someone else dies, cause I turn into a huge bitch :P

  62. Bekah Says:

Aw Shelley and you are the only bloggers I think I know in this little shin dig and you girls are so cute! Love the meet up. And the bread and butter. Soo damn good. I for one cannot turn down bread when it loooks that good.

And if I’m paying a certain amount for a fancy meal.

Cinnamon ice cream. And blogger’s dreaaam.

And I’ve been oh so lucky with my blogger meet ups! Only meeting Deb, Heab, Averie, Madeline and Eating Bender so far- but what an awesome group of ladies that is. For only two meet ups.

    :) love ya Holly.

  63. Jessica Says:

I’ve only met miss homegirl, so far…which was fab! But i’m amped to meet more ladiezzz SOONER rather than later!

That bread + butta pic is making me drooool.
And i’m usually a square meal + substantial snacks in between type of girl! I love snacking but hate not feeling energized and full enough to last for more than a few hours! Jeany, on the other hand is a snacker all day and night, if she’s busy. She’ll start with a bag of pita chips dipped in a container of sabra hummus, move onto some soup topped with crackers, have an apple, maybe dark chocolate….oh i love her!

AND YOU TOO!! LET’S CATCH UP SOON! XOXOX
