Ironic

Because sometimes, it IS like rain on your wedding day. Well put Alanis, well put.

It is also like blogging the day after saying you are going to cut back.

Hmmm…I wonder why that verse didn’t make the final song?

Let’s just say, it’s a good thing it wasn’t my wedding day today, otherwise I would have been stuck with a delicious bowl of Classic Banana Oats + lots of rain to contend with.

1/2 cup oats
1 cup water
1 egg (whisked in)
1 smashed banana
1 packet NuNaturals stevia
cinnamon
Nuttzo (!!!)

Wanna know what else it’s like?

It’s like not being hungry yet wanting to eat. That’s when you bring in either, (a) raw veggies to munch or (b) cereal to graze on.  Today was the latter…in the Kashi GoLean Crisp Toasted Berry Crumble variety.

It’s like having hundreds of supportive friends (i.e. all you) encouraging you to go for your goals and never having met most of them. I don’t know what this has to do with my orange + PBJ sammie, but just go with it.

It’s like having a real camera but exclusively using your iPhone for food pics. Just another reason to proclaim my love for Apple.

It’s like saying you hate seafood but then stuffing your face with crabcakes. Hey, there’s no shame in my lifelong quest to find the perfect crabcake.  This place is ranked #1 so far, FYI.

It’s like having a weird obsession with de-veganizing vegan dishes and veganizing non-vegan dishes. De-veganized VeggieGirl vegan blondie anyone?

And because sometimes, it’s the good advice that you just didn’t take.

*ahem* all the people who told me I was a good writer growing up but never believed them *ahem*

Who would have thought I’m now trying to build up my writing resume?

It figures.

    Great song choice.
It’s like being a social networker who loathes checking his inbox and hesitates asking people important things.
I’m a seafood lover and haven’t had a crabcake. Shame? Maybe.

  2. Sarah @ THE FOODIE DIARIES Says:

It’s like being the two most perfect mujeres to dominate a healthy foodie traveling show but not having a network behind them….

  3. Heather Says:

It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife.

    Sorry, couldn’t help myself!

  4. Erica Says:

haha I love making non vegan recipes vegan and I have no idea why. I’m not a vegan. It should be a skill we can put on our resumes ;) An who doesn’t love Alanis? Its like teaching at the gym and realizing you have to be back there to teach again in less than 12 hours…ahhhhhh I’m tired :(

  5. Brooke Says:

It’s like…. having a crush on a guy, hooking up with another guy because homeboy is out of town, to find out the next morning in bed that they not only know each other, but are best friends.

And thus, my life is a joke.

  6. Amy B @ Second City Randomness Says:

I usually zone out to the music that plays in our office. This song caught my attention today. How ironic… ;)

  7. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is Says:

I hear ya….was always told that when I was younger too and totally ignored it, and went in a completely different direction. How ironic. ;)

  8. Mara @ What's For Dinner? Says:

It’s like calling in well and getting sick
I’ve definitely heard that song twice today… cutting back doesn’t mean cutting out :)

  12. Lisa Says:

love the unique post! Although, I have nothing clever to come up with haha!

  13. Madeline - Greens and Jeans Says:

it’s like being exhausted after a day off even though you swore up and down that you were going to have a lazy day. I was TOTALLY rocking out to Alanis earlier today “I’ve got one hand in my pocket, and the other one’s giving a peace sign…”

  14. Mama Pea Says:

It’s like calling yourself a Christian and then banning children of homosexual parents from attending your school. Just sayin.

  15. ellie Says:

I am going to have this song stuck in my head all day now.

It’s like writing a blog post about healthy eating while drinking diet coke. Not that I do this, you understand… :P

  16. Uncle Tommie Timbertoes Says:

It’s like using your ego to get rid of your ego.

Thanks for the wonderfully sweet email lady. It made my night :)

You’re resume has got to be stacked with wonderful writings, I just know it. Because you’re fabulous!

  20. Katie Says:

It’s like being ecstatic about the 24oz. free coffee and then not being able to go to the bathroom all day because you have to stay in the room with 24 kids.

Also, it rained…no POURED AND STORMED on my wedding day and I loved every second of it. It made for the best rainy, romantic umbrella pictures and it was so fun. You only wear that dress once, so why not get it wet and muddy??

  21. K Says:

If it’s backwards/sweet irony day then maybe I should say I’m cutting back on blogging. I’ve been slacking big time in the blogging department! Your deveganized vegan blondie looks amaze. Pass it over ;)

Good luck with the resume – you’re going to have a killer one by the time you’re done!

  22. samantha Says:

it’s like taking the time to actually DO your hair in the morning, only to get rained on when your umbrella won’t open.

    SIGH. at least it’s friday!

  23. BroccoliHut Says:

Good song choice, my friend. I totally hear you on the “wanting to eat but not hungry” thing. Sometimes it seems as if there are too many things I want to eat and not enough time:)

  24. Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) Says:

It’a like making a raw, vegan dinner and then chowing down on cookies and milk for dessert. Hehe, that’s how I roll.

I also do not really love seafood, but crabcakes are a whole other story. Best I’ve ever had? At Warren’s Station, a restaurant in Fenwick Island, Delaware. Mmm.

    TGIF!

  25. Maggie @ Fit.Fun.Food Says:

You’re a great writer! Very nice themed post!

  26. elise Says:

it’s like staying up late because you feel too sick to snooze, and then feeling crappy the next day because you didnt get enough sleep.

i may need to come visit just for the nuttzo in those oats. looks tres delish.

btw, can you veganize those crabcakes porfa? me likey :)

  27. Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) Says:

It’s like deciding to run more and then developing shin splints (oy!)

That’s it. I’m getting some Nutzo. All your nut butter-slathered eats are making me mop drool off of my keyboard.

  28. janetha Says:

you put alanis to shame! “It’s like having a weird obsession with de-veganizing vegan dishes and veganizing non-vegan dishes” i do that too! it’s fun.

i cant think of anything ironic right now. but i do love you.

  29. Katie Says:

We learned that song at day camp sing-a-long when I was 8. 8! Explains soooooooo much about my life.

    Happy weekend to you, girly.

    Have a great weekend!

  32. amanda Says:

    it’s like. . .
taking a different route to work to avoid the morning traffic only to get stuck in even more traffic.
    isn’t it ironic…don’t you think?

    alanis really speaks volumes!

    happy friday!

  33. Gracie @ Girl Meets Health Says:

It’s like wanting a huge Ben and Jerry’s ice cream sundae when all that’s in the kitchen is freezer-burnt popsicles….

    True story :(

  34. Tamara Says:

Actually, that song always irked me a little because 99% of her examples aren’t ironic. The only one that is is the bit about ignoring good advice. Irony exposes human folly or reveals an incongruity in behavior; rain on your wedding day, getting stuck in traffic, or falling for a married guy is just bad luck. Now, if you had deliberately moved the date of your wedding to avoid bad weather, or just brought spoons because you were certain you wouldn’t need a knife, THAT would be ironic.

  35. Jess Says:

It’s like having a craving for peanut m & m’s and realizing all you have are the regular ones :)

    <3 jess

  36. Jessie Says:

It’s like raaaaaaaaa-ain on your wedding day!!!! Couldn’t help it. Now I know what’s going to be in my head on the plane today. :) Good crabcakes are worth their weight in … really good food (hey, we’re food bloggers, right?).

  37. Jenny Says:

Mmm Nuttzo- i can never find it at my Publix!

  38. Traci Says:

It’s like…realizing it’s ok to let your guard down, even if just a little bit, once in awhile.

It’s like…realizing to get what you what you have to take chances. The person who goes the furthest is the one who is willing to be daring.

Hope you are well Miss Holly! Hugs…

  39. Shelley Says:

  40. Julie Says:

that nuttzo pb looks interesting .. is that flax in there?!

  41. Katie Says:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh love that song, brings back memories, isn’t it great when a certain song can bring back amazing memories or it can be HORRIBLE when a certain song you hear brings back memories of an ex that was an A**hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol!!

Love ya girl and ummmmmm can I have that dessert please : ) xoxoxo

  42. Molly Says:

Holly- I took French for 3 years and I’m pretty sure you know more than me!!! Ha. For the record, 1 thought-felt email + Holly’s fabulous, uplifting blog = automatic de-funker. =] THIS girl is back.on.track. Hope you had a great weekend springin’ ahead!!! Talk to you soon.
