a few good days

First of all, I have to thank everyone for all your sweet happy birthday wishes as well as congratulations to my sister on her wedding! The 21st of December was a very happy birthday for me, and the wedding was a simple, delicious and utterly fun family affair. In other words, twas’ a good day filled with L-O-V-E.

Actually, I’ve had quite a few good days.

Not only did I receive an Anthropologie gift card, eyelash extensions {!!!} + Diet Coke for my birthday from friends (they know me all too well), but I’ve also been treated to some dang delicious food while on vacation from work this week in Minnesota.

Case in point: a homemade dinner at one of my best friends’ house.

This Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Beer, which I first tried at the Foodbuzz Blogger Festival, is a deliciously refreshing brew. If you hate beer but want to start dabbling in this yeasty beverage, I recommend starting with this one.

And pair it with pretzel M&M’s.

You won’t regret it.

Thanks to Megan + Eileen, two of my all-time favorite ladies, I enjoyed this pre-birthday dinner, which consisted of roasted red pepper chicken sausage, rosemary parmesan risotto, smoky bacon mac n’ cheese and roasted veggies (x3).

We may or may not have also guzzled a bottle of wine, downed funfetti cookies {!!!) and watched episodes of trashy TV on Bravo.

Just sayin’.

Upon awaking on the day of my birth, you would most likely think there was no way I could possibly be hungry after a meal like that, but oh how wrong you would be.

Promptly at 10:12am, I met my friend Charlotte for breakfast at Grandview Grill.

I ordered coffee while she ordered Diet Coke. For the record, her propensity for ordering Diet Coke at breakfast is one of the reasons I love her.

Looking at the menu, I knew there was only one option: Caramel Apple Crisp Waffle.

A prime example of B.P.A.A.D. (ahem, breakfast parading around as dessert).

My 26th birthday consisted of chatting with Charlotte for three hours, shopping at Anthropologie, getting ready for the wedding festivities and then celebrating my sister’s wedding all night at an adorable restaurant called Amore Victoria. I would have taken pictures, but the lighting was horrible (my sister clearly did not consult food bloggers before choosing the location), and I was too busy just enjoying.

This morning, my family + I met up for a post-wedding breakfast.

Apparently, my eyes were bigger than my stomach.

Literally, this Veggie Tex Mex dish was bigger than my head.

And I have a really big head.

Irish egghead, anyone?

I mean, I was barely able to wolf down half of it…

So good.

Somehow, I thought drinking this Meyer Ginger Lemonade would be a good detox drink for the outrageous amount of food I’ve eaten all week.

It did nothing but make me sleepy, so I took a two hour nap.

A good end to a good couple days indeed.

Lauren December 23, 2010 at 5:34 am

This sounds like the most perfect way to celebrate your day. So happy you had a wonderful time and all the food looks AMAZING!!!! There really is one only way to live it up on your b-day. Some may go shopping, others my drink themselves silly, but the smart people……they eat! :)

Have a wonderful day Holly!!

So glad you had a great birthday and congrats to your sister again!!!!

The name of that wine is awesome! Ilove it!

Holy Tex Mex, I would never finish that either, not even if I was having the buzzed up munchies!

Love ya girl and you deserved a wonderful birthday! xoxo

A nap is definitely a good way to end any celebration. Or start one. Or a nice break for the middle of one.

I sound old saying that.

But you know it’s true. :) I’m glad you had a great time!

Matt December 23, 2010 at 6:47 am

Glad you had a great bday :)

Abby December 23, 2010 at 7:08 am

I don’t like beer, but I like watermelon. Somehow I think a compromise could be reached.
Glad you had a great birthday, but honestly, I wouldn’t expect anything less from you, my dear ;)

Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun December 23, 2010 at 7:33 am

HAPPY BELATED GIRL!!!!!!! 26 is your year i know it.

i hope this year you have more than 26 cans of that beer.

seriously pretzel m&ms are apparently the talk of the town! where can a girl find a bag of those. is it weird that they remind me of rex ryan (the coach of the ny jets) mainly because during hard knocks (the reality show) he would talk about them NONSTOP. have a beaaaaaaaaaautious thursday love!

Gabriela @ Fro-Yo Lover December 23, 2010 at 8:33 am

Hahahaha – I’m glad you’ve had a great birthday. Congratulations to your sister and her boyfriend (now husband!), by the way!
Food looks amazing, as usual. Plus, gotta love the acronyms ;)
Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, Holly!

happy holidays ms. holly!! (that has a great ring to it, no?!)

Amanda (Eating Up) December 23, 2010 at 8:40 am

Seasonal pretzel M&M’s, come find me in life, please.

Katie December 23, 2010 at 9:45 am

Do you remember those crispy m&ms? NASTY. Pretzels, on the other hand, I can get into.

BPAAD…genius and I have thought that so many times, but never came up with the B-pad acronym. Its like an ipad, only edible. And with that, I’ll leave you to think.

Ashley December 23, 2010 at 9:55 am

I need to get my hands on some of that watermelon beer! Did you find it in MN? I hope so! I live in St. Paul and I am going to start a hunt for this later today!

janetha @ meals and moves December 23, 2010 at 11:12 am

Jen December 23, 2010 at 1:02 pm

My friends always laugh at me because I’m the one who orders a Diet Coke with breakfast…I don’t drink coffee so Diet Coke is my caffeine fix :)

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) December 23, 2010 at 1:21 pm

Laura December 23, 2010 at 4:24 pm

I am so glad to hear that there are other people in the world who have diet coke with breakfast. I could have it at any time of the day, unless I am really, really sick.

Maren December 23, 2010 at 5:10 pm

your friend sounds like my sister. I uploaded a picture to facebook called, “breakfast of champions” which was a pic of my sister’s breakfast: protein pancakes and diet coke haha. Hope you had an amazing birthday!!
