A Foodie-ful Weekend

How it is almost Monday, I will never know.  The time flies by when your family comes to visit you over the weekend though!

The Thai Tofu Coconut Curry was so divine, but why does Monty serve it with Greek pitas?  I won’t whine ;).

Go big or go home, is my great motto. Shared with my sister, we agreed Snickers Cheesecake is even better than Hugh Hefner’s grotto.

On Saturday, I met up with Emily from A Nutritionist Eats.  We ate sammies and browsed the Madison Farmer’s Market, not even stopping to buy treats!

We were too busy chatting; she is adorable and sweet.  However, we found some locally-made, organic whey powder – ampin’ up the protein without eating meat!

We got drinks for my underaged cousin and played a mean game of Scattergories that night.  My aunt Gayle beat me by two points, I almost dared her to a girl fight.

Luckily all was settled this morning at breakfast, where I downed Apple Wheat Pancakes and a cup of fruit, and declared it the best.

CIMG5921

After stuffing our bellies, we took a nice walk.  On this gorgeous autumn day, to the Union Terrace we talked!

CIMG5933

Off on their way home, we said ta-ta for now!  I skedaddled to my first day at my part-time job – still full of food, much like a cow.

After 3 hours of realizing I know nothing about home decorating, I went for a 3-mile run with a friend, no need to keep him waiting.

Concocting some Moroccan Vegetable Stew for a mysterious reason, I used my friend as a guinea pig and made him approve all the season(ings).

Served over couscous, the recipe was oh-so-yummy.  With some pumpkin brew to top it all off, shouts of thank you and mmmmm rang from my tummy!

CIMG5940

This has been a horrible rhyme, I know this for sure.  It’s Sunday night – I have a migraine, a pile of dishes and am lacking the “I Hate Mondays” cure.

Please cut me some slack my dear friends. I promise to catch up on blogs, have more exciting news and recap with a proper post when I am on the mend.

Until then, I must say thank you for all your sweet 6-month wishes.  Please enter my giveaway, so I can give someone some applesauce and get on with my dishes!

LOVE Scattergories–as a word nerd who loves alliteration, it never ceases to entertain me. You’ll so beat your aunt next time:)

Rosey Rebecca October 25, 2009 at 11:42 pm

I think I need those pancakes. And snickers cheesecake?!?!?!? I’m jealous. I contemplated buying that beer at the store yesterday but I got Post Road Pumpkin ale instead. I still want to try dogfish head.

I’m sorry I haven’t commented lately. I’ve been REALLY busy. But like I told Alison, I’m still reading! I love your blog and reading it keeps me sane on crazy days!

Snickers and cheesecake together…incredible

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) October 26, 2009 at 1:28 am

Snickers Cheesecake is even better than Hugh Hefner’s grotto.
Judging from that pic, yeah, I’d say. Wow. :)

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is October 26, 2009 at 5:34 am

Kristen October 26, 2009 at 6:17 am

We played Scattergories this weekend, too!

So.much.fun! We got several belly laughs out of the game and a few snorts from my friend!

Matt October 26, 2009 at 7:23 am

Is it sad that you can rhyme better than me when you have a migraine and I am 100%? Haha.

Have a good week!

glidingcalm October 26, 2009 at 7:54 am

Katie October 26, 2009 at 8:09 am

Hope you feel better soon, Miss Holly!

Let us know how that protein powered is…I am always lookin’ for the good stuff. Oh, and if you run into the “I hate Mondays” cure…throw some of it my way. :-)

Katie October 26, 2009 at 8:09 am

*powder* ahem.

Whit October 26, 2009 at 8:15 am

If you find that ‘I hate Monday’ cure send me the recipe. Thanks.

Madeline @ GreensAndJeans October 26, 2009 at 8:23 am

for some reason it never clicked in my head that you are from wisconsin until today! I was born in Racine and my family lives all over the state. Yay team!

Whitney @ Lettuce Love October 26, 2009 at 8:47 am

Anything with a Snickers is heavenly in my book. The plus side to Mondays, we are 1 day closer to Friday!

Evan Thomas October 26, 2009 at 9:06 am

Snickers cheesecake, wowza!

April October 26, 2009 at 9:23 am

What a fun weekend! I’m so jealous of those protein powders!

And that cheesecake too ;) Actually I don’t even like cheesecake..but it still looks really good!!

brandi October 26, 2009 at 9:23 am

Happy 6 months girl!!! That snickers cheesecake looks ridiculous.

emily (a nutritionist eats) October 26, 2009 at 9:41 am

I brought my chocolate protein today! Can’t wait to try it!
SO fun to meet you in person – I had a blast!

Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) October 26, 2009 at 10:19 am

Oh gosh, that snickers cheesecake looks amazing! And the curry and stew both look perfect for fall – I’ve been craving comfort food like crazy lately!

Sorry to hear about the migraine (I know about those all too well). A long rest in a dark room and then some caffeine always helps get rid of my headaches :-) Try to have a lovely Monday lady!

Chelsea @ (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) October 26, 2009 at 10:28 am

What a wonderful collection of pictures. Those apple pancakes in particular blew my mind.

A weekend with friends, family, Autumn walks, Dogfish beer (yay, Delaware, you made something interesting finally!), dessert, and a farmer’s market is a weekend well spent! Kudos, lady.

K October 26, 2009 at 10:42 am

Love the rhyming action! You’re a Shakespeare in the making :)

That cheesecake? Those protein powders? The stew? The brew?! ADORES! My stomach is a little bit jealous of your weekend!

What’s up with Sunday migraines? I had one too – hope yours is gone!

Low October 26, 2009 at 11:50 am

Your rhymes are always fab. Loved it.

Scattergories is a bomb ass game. I wish I was playing it right now.

Can’t wait for your announcement, and hope you woke up headache free this a.m.

Jenny October 26, 2009 at 1:30 pm

that is the “Victoria Bekham” of protein powders, so chic! and much personally I would much prefer fair trade dark chocolate or burbon vanilla to a slab of chicken anyways.

Hope your monday isn’t too painful! lots and lots of love for you!

Emily (The Experimentarian) October 26, 2009 at 1:30 pm

That protein powder looks so interesting! I am not a fan of that type of stuff in general because it usually contains soy, but that looks quite natural and delcious. Love the poem girl, we bloggers are the best at rhyming shiz:) xoxo

Julie October 26, 2009 at 2:09 pm

great eats! everything looks fantastic

Faith October 26, 2009 at 2:40 pm

Great motto, that snickers cheesecake is definitely worth going big for! ;)

Susan October 26, 2009 at 4:56 pm

I’m so jealous of your rhymin’ skillz! Also jealous of:

snickers cakes
apple waffles
restaurants that serve pita wedges with everything

Hope you managed to get all caught up!
xo

I LOVE Scattergories. I wish I had roommates somtimes so we could play- I wonder if there is an online version a bunch of bloggers could play? Or webcam? hehe.

I need to make Morrocan stew again- it’s one of the few things I make using a recipe and completely from scratch. Good stuff (and bet leftovers would be amazing in a wrap!)

Love the terrace pic…and the funky poem as always :D

elise October 26, 2009 at 9:07 pm

hello there lil miss poet :)

way to hook up the under agers!!

grotto = diseases, cheesecake is a way better option!

Ruthie October 27, 2009 at 7:37 am

I want to become independently a billionare so I can offer you a million dollar salary and beg you to move to Georgia and be my exclusive chef! You make oatmeal look appealing. I want some now. Thank you for journaling your food. The pictures help me picture healthy foods as not so bad but yum (and they really are yum!)

sissy #1 October 28, 2009 at 10:48 am

Wow, Gayle beat you in a game based on language and words?!?!?! Unheard of…I bet you are still depressed…you should have played Boggle instead.
