A Good Day

Good (late) night everyone!

Whew…these past two night I have been way up past my bedtime.  No lie.  You know I usually roll g’ma-style and getting to bed past 10:30pm is NOT okay two nights in a row.  However, since I indeed had such a good day, I think it was well worth it.  What makes up a good day, you ask?  Well, have no fear, you know I will obv tell you!

(1) Every good day starts with a good, filling breakfast.

If you couldn’t tell, I am on a total Overnight Oat Bran kick (you can thank Kailey, Brooke & Alison for this one!) – I found out I don’t really like hot oat bran but holla, I be LOVIN’ the cold stuff.

1/3 cup oat bran
1 (6-oz.) container Stonyfield Peach yogurt
1/3 cup skim milk
1 smashed naner

~ soaked overnight ~

1 cup strawberries
1 heaping tbsp. raw almond butter

Strawberry Banana Overnight Oat Bran

(2) Enjoying a leisurely morning cuppa joe + 2% milk while reading blog comments and fellow bloggy’s blogs.

(3) Coming out of a job interview feeling good about what you said and knowing you didn’t do anything too stupid (i.e. nervous laugh, sweat profusely, fumble words, talk to fast, interrupt…you get the picture).  Wish me luck – I should hear back in the next week!

(4) A post-interview snack to quell the nervousness and mmmmmm…satisfy that hunger!

(5) Listing to the Hairspray (Broadway version, of course!) soundtrack while eating a delicious lunch.  I heart musicals.

My fave musical CD’s currently in rotation during my work day are: Moulin Rouge, Hairspray + West Side Story.  Just for the record.  Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is currently stationed in the car for the drive home.  I am thinking about throwing Les Miz or 42nd Street in the mix soon.  Again, I heart musicals.

(6) Resolving a potentially annoying problem at work before it could get annoying and rewarding yourself with an afternoon chocolate chip granola bar (eaten while resolving said problem, hence no photo :)).

(7) An afternoon snack of love.

(8) Heading out on a 3-mile run with my study abroad bestie Charlotte (the time always goes by SO fast!), followed by a homemade dinner of personalized calzones, salad + fruit all followed up with a repeat of last night’s So You Think You Can Dance and tonight’s SYTYCD elimination show/100th episode.  A total top night.

veggie + pineapple calzone, side salad and watermelon/Rainier cherries

(9) Paying off my credit card!!!!!!

(Okay, well in truth, I can’t get too excited.  I still have a 2nd card with some money left to owe on it, but that is all from the surgery I had to have in while living in Thailand.  Yep, that is totes another story for another day :)).

(10) Going to bed knowing it’s Friday, I might meet my mummy for lunch tomorrow, feeling totally exhausted in the best kind of way and knowing I will crash right away upon hitting the pillow.

Yep, sounds like a good day to me.

i think I’m gonna try some overnight oats! woot!

Lynn (The Actors Diet) July 24, 2009 at 1:32 am

i haven’t listened to les miz in forever. are you a original london or original broadway cast fan?

Jessica (jesslikesithot) July 24, 2009 at 2:14 am

Ok, you and Kailey MAY have convinced me to try (overnight) oatbran! MAY is the key word…….your version of it always looks so amazing but I also always hear badddd stories of how gross it turned out! haha..HMMMM

LOVE peach chobs, and strawberry chobs!!

Glad you had a good day! :)

janetha July 24, 2009 at 2:18 am

your list was fun to read, i am a little tipsy so typing is out of the question but i love you!

insideiamdancing July 24, 2009 at 2:22 am

Pretty fab day in my opinion! I am listening to ‘Anything Goes’ right now…Hairspray is next on my playlist!

have a great Friday!

Abby July 24, 2009 at 5:14 am

Can I have your day (or at least the meals and soundtrack)? I LOVE musicals as well–especially “Les Miz” and anything Hairspray/Grease related–even though I sing by myself for obvious reasons. (“In the Heights” is another good-yet-lesser-known one.)

Good luck with the job! It’s always a great feeling when you replay the conversation in your head a million times and don’t feel like an ass for saying something stupid (or so I hear…) :)

Did I mention your food looks perfect?

Alison July 24, 2009 at 5:46 am

Good luck with the new job possibility! I have no doubt you kicked some serious butt, did you bust out some limericks for them? Def. do that next time, they’d probably hire you on the spot!

Whit July 24, 2009 at 7:54 am

Uh, huh sounds like a good day! Can you come live with me and make your oat bran creations for me every morning? Thank you.

Angharad July 24, 2009 at 8:03 am

Ahh what an awesome day. GOOD LUCK on the job…crossing my fingers and toes for you lady! Never tried oat bran but I don’t see that lasting super long….so easily influenced! Calzone=mmm.

Also, you need to stop talking about Joseph and the Amazing Techinicolor Dreamcoat because it’s bringing back alaring memories of when my parents got me the soundtrack aged 8 or something and I sat in our kitchen listening to it over and over with the inlay in my hands so I could learn every word…#I close my eyes…..# sigh

Hooray for good days! We’ll have to swap study abroad medical emergencies sometime…i ended up with mono and a ruptured ear drum on a tiny island in greece. The clinic’s janitor gave me a shot of pain meds because a doc wasn’t on duty yet (it was in the middle of the night). Oh lordie….veggie pineapple calzone??!! Can you share the recipe?

Lizzy July 24, 2009 at 9:01 am

ksgoodeats July 24, 2009 at 9:40 am

Moulin Rouge has one of the best soundtracks – a close second is Chicago!

Veggie pineapple calzone?! I want. Now! ;) Woohoo for the successful job interview!

lowandbhold July 24, 2009 at 9:50 am

Just came across your blog…you have some lovely eats here! I’m excited to follow you and see more of them. :-)

Katharina July 24, 2009 at 11:59 am

Wow that calzone sounds gooood. Your day sounds awesome :D I’m munching away at the PB&A mix right now. You know what I recommend from TJ’s? Next time get their tortilla wraps (I got the small kind). I just made some … tacos/wraps lol and I put the 3-layer hummus+edamame+carrots+TJ’s tomato less corn salsa. YUM!

Faith July 24, 2009 at 2:21 pm

I’m glad you’re having a great day! Even just looking at your oats makes me happy, with their pretty sunburst pattern!

Sarah July 24, 2009 at 4:25 pm

Pretty, pretty pictures! The calzones look wonderful!

Surgery in Thailand? Uhhhh????! I hope that story for another day is told soon….

peanutbutterandjenny July 24, 2009 at 10:10 pm

that o-night oat bran is definitely going on my list of thangs to try!

for the record – peach chobani has basically been a blessing to my life — i’m in love with that stuff!

glad you had such a good day, my darling! hope tomorrow is just as wonderful <3

Holly July 26, 2009 at 10:48 pm

YAY for PB+A!!!!!!

Holly July 26, 2009 at 10:49 pm

agreed. Chicago only recently got taken out of the rotation – most likely it will be back soon. very soon.

Holly July 26, 2009 at 10:51 pm

honestly, SUPER simple. we had a pre-made whole wheat dough (which you can easily get at the grocery store). we rolled them out into circles, and just tossed in whatever veggies/toppings we wanted layered with some mozzarella cheese. i chose pineapple, spinach and onion. bake at 350 degrees until golden brown, then dip in marinara and devour my dear!

Holly July 26, 2009 at 10:51 pm

we TOTALLY need to swap medical stories – check out the other comment i just left on how to make the calzones. SUPER easy and totally yummy!
