Around the World in a Day

Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Healthy Everythingtarian Flight #359 to Wisconsin. If you’re going to Wisconsin, you’re in the right place. If you’re not going to Wisconsin, you’re about to have a really long evening.

Our first stop is the capital of Wisconsin…Madison!  Here we find these delicious organic raspberries grown by a local farming family on a lovely bed of cereal and skim milk from right here in America’s Dairyland.

Our next stop, we are going to travel south of the border to have a fiesta de platanos en Guatemala.  Our mid-flight meal will involve a nice yellow banana to get our potassium levels up for the rest of the journey.

Ladies and gentlemen, please return to your seats.  The seatbelt sign has been turned on as we are due to hit some turbulence as we cross the Atlantic Ocean before landing in London’s Heathrow Airport. Before we land, please enjoy your British-inspired salad – an array of courgettes (ahem, cucumbers), tomatoes, greens and strawberries with some English blue cheese and walnuts, all in a raspberry vinaigrette.

Excuse me, may I have your attention please?  Due to inclement weather, there has been a change of plans.  We shall make an emergency landing in Greece to enjoy some Greek pizza before continuing on elsewhere.  I apologize for any inconvenience.

Our apologies for the flight diversion.  Please enjoy this Healthy Everythingtarian Airways’ homemade Vegan Tropical Breakfast Bar while we continue our smooth journey on to…

Ladies and gentlemen, please refrain from running 9 miles upon exiting the plane.  I imagine your legs are sore from running 18 miles the 18 hour flight thus far, so kick back, relax and do an easy 7 miles instead.  Perhaps enjoy a float in the Dead Sea upon completion.  Flight #359 will take off in approximately 3 hours, where a dinner of pita, hummus, tomato and fresh greens shall be served.

Before you exit the plane, please fill out your visa card upon arrival back to the United States.  The immigration officials in the Boise, Idaho airport will take your card before you and your luggage will be scanned through customs.  After you have passed through, you may then eat your potatoes roasted in a Hidden Valley Ranch packet + canola oil.

Thank you for flying Healthy Everythingtarian Airways.  We hope you had an enjoyable flight, and look forward to seeing you up in the skies again soon.

You.Are.Ridiculous. End of story! Crazy mama!
Please just come back and live here so we can hang out every night. Ugh. Dan would for real cook for you. He loves it!

LOVE the British salad of course…bias, bias… but my dear, courgette is zucchini!!! C’mon Holly. I know you knew that.

Anyway, that pizza looks ridic. Again, I could have been eating that on a lunch break with you (in the imaginary Minneapolis in which we work right by each other).

Also: roast potatoes are my FAVE!!

Hearts to you pretty xxx

Growing up, I had a raspberry bush in my backyard and looking at the pic of yours totally brings back yummy memories!

Erika September 2, 2009 at 7:32 pm

Ha! Ha! I loved the trip! All the food looked great and the service was perfect! :)

Matt September 2, 2009 at 7:32 pm

Haha… Nice story!

Abby September 2, 2009 at 7:41 pm

I immediately had flashbacks to the “Bub-eye” SNL airline skit…classic.
And if I were on this journey, that food would most certainly make up for the fact that i would probably be stuck sitting next to someone who smelled like they bathed in $7 mini bottles of cheap Whiskey at the airport bar and wanted to chat or the screaming baby being restrained by a frazzled mother in need of a $7 mini bottle of cheap Whiskey.

Jenny September 2, 2009 at 7:47 pm

This is legit the BEST post EVER. Why can I not come up with wondrous material such as that. And while the Healthy Everythingtarian is soaring the skies, can it make a pit stop in Charlotte, NC? Please? Please? Mi madre has a garden. With fresh tomatoes.

The flight was wonderful; thank you very much. Emergency landing at Greece was the best part methinks. :P Wouldn’t mind staying there for a while.

insideiamdancing September 3, 2009 at 12:49 am

Haha :D Love it! Food is my favourite part of travelline ;) (bar airplane food!)

Thank you for the email- I am saving it. Made my day x

Susan September 3, 2009 at 4:13 am

Definitely one of the best flights I’ve ever been on!! :) I think Israel was my favourite, but the in-flight snacks were great! :P

K September 3, 2009 at 6:17 am

Those potatoes = drool! I want them now! I spy one mighty delicious looking bread stick from London! This was the best flight I’ve ever been on :)

PS. I just heard about your bird…the pink flamingo? You crazy Wisconsonites!

Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) September 3, 2009 at 6:47 am

Special K September 3, 2009 at 7:55 am

brandi September 3, 2009 at 7:57 am

this post cracked me up! I love it :)

Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries September 3, 2009 at 8:31 am

HAHA love this post! I would have gotten off in Israel and stayed there–just for a lifetime of hummus! I swear there is something that Israelis do with their hummus that America just can’t seem to get right–it has like a hint of peanut butterness, in the best way! Ah, now I want Israeli hummus!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, love yours!

Erica September 3, 2009 at 8:57 am

hahhaha what a creative post. I enjoyed the whole trip! My favorite stop was def Greece- that pizza needs to get in my belly ;)

Cindy September 3, 2009 at 9:53 am

Finally… an airline that serves healthy AND delicious food!

what a treat!

Low September 3, 2009 at 9:58 am

Hahahahaha, I really needed a mid-week trip around the world thank you! And may I say you were quite the hospitable pilot/flight attendant?!

Loved all the delicious treats you serves, espesh the greek pizza. Nom!

Sarah September 3, 2009 at 10:17 am

Eee hee hee! I feel so well-traveled.

And enllightened: courgettes? I’ve never heard that term before! (And… I wonder if the Russkies bastardized the term and took it for their own? A lot of words have French roots… “cucumber” is “oguretz”)

Also, LOVE your shoes with the tropical bar. Supa cute!

Alison September 3, 2009 at 10:43 am

I’m the passenger everyone hates with the screaming kids running up and down the aisle making 40 trips to the bathroom. Can we have some water? Do you have any crayons? What about stickers? Can my kids tour the cockpit? When do we land again?!

Diana Rae September 3, 2009 at 2:32 pm

Oddly enough – I am traveling to Wisconsin AND i’m bringing some English goodies with me AND I can proudly say that I lived in Boise, ID and it was GLOOORIOUS!

Cute peep-toe shoes! (and nail polish, too – you’ve changed!)

See you in two days!!

Lizzy September 3, 2009 at 2:32 pm
