Best Date Ever

by Holly on February 1, 2010

in breakfast,dinner,lunch

I was up and rarin’ to go at 6:30am this morning, which means that breakfast was devoured by the artificial lighting of my 80’s-style overhead lighting fixture.  Although this makes for a rather jaundiced breakfast, these Pumpkin Carob Oats were still mighty delicious…

1/2 rolled oats
1 cup water
1/2 canned pumpkin
drizzle of agave
cinnamon, nutmeg + ginger
1 hunk o’ almond buttah
1 tbsp. carob chips

Since I leave on Wednesday to visit my gawjuss BFF Megan in Charlotte, I spent most of the day at work organizing my stuff and making sure all the necessities are taken care of before I leave.

I would like to say this makes me a grown-up and such. However, after going to the bathroom my dress got accidentally stuck in my tights and consequently, showed some major butt cheek.  I honestly don’t know how long and how many people saw this (shudders).  All I know is my friend Steph came into the office and laughed her a$$ off when she saw me.  It immediately humbled me back into my awkward middle school years.

Since I ate breakfast earlier, I was ravenous for my mid-morning snack around 10am…

Also, in an effort to not buy groceries before I leave, I raided my parent’s pantry this weekend for food to hold me over until then.  Thankfully, this endeavor has forced me to be both creative and thrifty.

Tomato Soup + Plain Popcorn…yes, that is what I call creative AND thrifty!

Yes, I ate the whole bag.  And yes, I happily dumped the popcorn IN the soup and devoured.  Trust me when I say it was tres magnifico!  The creamy soup + crunchy popcorn made the perfect contrast.  I WILL be eating this again.

Afternoon snackage to tame the hunger beast…

After work, I was suffering from some major DOMS from the workouts of this weekend.  Literally, my abs, legs and body are still sore.  So instead of working out after work, I did this…

And this….

Also twice.

That would be two glasses of cabernet sauvignon + two slices of Tofu Veggie Lasagna (made by my supremely fabulous and wonderful friend Ilsa).  Trust me when I say we pretty much had the best time drinking wine, singing to The Cure, then singing to Rent and finally chowing down on lasagna.

We followed up all that with a showing of Abrazos Rotos (Broken Embraces), the new Pedro Almodovar film.  It was beautiful, compelling and witty.

And yes, that probably was the best date ever. I am pretty sure if Ilsa was a guy, we would already be married.  I am pretty sure I told her that tonight as well.

With that, I’m heading to bed in preparation for a looonnnnggg day tomorrow.

Have you ever been supremely embarrassed at work? Look above for my recent shenanigan.

What is the last random combo you ate that totally tasted delicious? Look above – popcorn + tomato soup!

that is, like, my favorite dormroom dinner from back in the day! haha, i loved it, too. perhaps i shall recreate it this weekend, when i’m snowed in w/ the new mutha of a storm coming…

the other night i had salsa, oats, shrimp, and peas. not that odd, but random for me, and so freakin good!

Oh, Holly, I too have been a target of the stubborn tights/dress/buttcheek reveal. It’s just no fun! Sorry you had to go through that, but hey, Rent sing alongs are a surefire way to lighten the spirits and “forget regret or life is yours to miss.”

So sorry about the dress mishap, but I have a feeling you handled it hilariously, you’re awesome :)

Love date nights with girlfriends, sometimes it’s all I need to be happy!

Popcorn+soup kind of sounds amazing, popcorn is like really thin crackers, so it works ;) I rarely eat random combos…I’d have to say ketchup+eggs are winners though.

Oh yeah, that dress thing has totally happened to me before. I have this one pouffy skirt that is really bad for that. Why don’t people tell us immediately when it happens!?

As soon as I saw the popcorn and soup I knew there was some mixage happening ;) This isn’t that recent – but I made a hummus omelet a while back that was surprisingly delicious!

oh man. thats embarrassing. haha. sorry, dont mean to laugh, but its one of those things that you always hear about/see on tv/movies, but hope to god it never happens to you. i guess thats a perk of wearing scrubs at work?

a) blackberry graham?! ive never seen that kind of TLC before- the hunt has started! YUM!

b) i am just NOW reading your posts from february 1st through current….expect comments that are now probably outdated ;)

c) i love the tomato soup and popcorn combo. I personally have a strong adoration for cubes of white cheese with yellow mustard and a green olive all in one bite.

d) early this year i fell off my seat at my desk because a COAT RACK scared me. embarassing, yes.
