breakfast perfection

by Holly on March 3, 2011

in breakfast

Two slices of toasted Ezekiel bread.

Two heaping tablespoons of drippy almond butter (roasted, no salt).

A pinch of sea salt.

One ripe banana half smooshed on each slice.

A generous sprinkle of spicy, warm cinnamon.

Two cups of coffee.

Always coffee.

And that, my friends, is breakfast perfection.

What is YOUR perfect breakfast? Sharing is caring!

My perfect breakfast at the moment: Porridge cooked with cocoa powder and cinnamon, and a melted banana added. Then it all topped with almond butter sauce. :)

Kaley March 3, 2011 at 7:52 am

Since coming to Spain, I’ve discovered pan con tomate (literally, bread with tomato). It’s great crunchy/chewy/soft baguette bread, fresh tomato squeezed out onto the bread, salt, and high quality olive oil. It is to. die. for. I can’t get enough.

Lindsey @Textbooks and Cookbooks March 3, 2011 at 7:55 am

Oatmeal + vanilla almond milk + mashed banana + nut butter :) Your breakfast looks amazing, I’ll have to try that soon!

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate March 3, 2011 at 8:07 am

Peanut butter and banana pancakes with plenty of pure maple syrup. DELICIOUS.

Erica March 3, 2011 at 8:08 am

Looks fantastic. My perfect breakfast? Probably scrambled eggs- tons of ketchup, fruit and a piece of toast

sarah (sarah learns) March 3, 2011 at 8:08 am

i love oats+chia seeds+almond milk+mashed banana+raisins topped with blueberries, strawberries, and nutella. mmm.

Sami March 3, 2011 at 8:10 am

the perfect breakfast for me as of late, is 1/4 C. peanut flour mixed with sugar free syrup, cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and water to thin. then, i stir in my raw oats and mash a banana in with it. ooey, gooey, and doughy = perfection.

Amanda (Eating Up) March 3, 2011 at 8:10 am

OF oats + salt/cinnamon + banana + nut butter on the spoon.

brandi March 3, 2011 at 8:21 am

I have WAY too many perfect breakfasts!

- homemade biscuits, eggs. fruit. coffee.

Definitely always coffee :)

VeggieGirl March 3, 2011 at 8:28 am

I’m boring – my perfect breakfast is cereal :D

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine March 3, 2011 at 8:39 am

A HUGE bowl of cereal with a pint of blueberries and almond milk. Yummmm.

Caryn March 3, 2011 at 8:43 am

A Greek omelette, wheat toast, and coffee! Not that I ever just whip myself up a Greek omelette, but I know where to find one when need be! :)

Ashey @ 365 things March 3, 2011 at 8:45 am

Oh goodness. Very similar to yours… 2 pieces of toast with warm ooeygooey pb, mashed and nuked naner on top, with lots of cinnamon and drizzled with honey. Excuse me for a moment….

Aaaand I’m back. I also like a bowl of oats w/a naner mixed in and pb on top.

IF PB is out of the equation, then I like a english muffin with eggbeaters and cheese..like an egg mcmuffin.

Or protein pancakes which is regular ole hungryjack with a scoop of protein powder.

Those are my faves. :)

Mackenzie @ Whatever, Gatsby March 3, 2011 at 9:07 am

this is lovely! mine is iced coffee with chocolate soy milk, two pieces of toast with smart balance and raspberry bonne maman preserves with a blood orange on the side :) perfection!

Sarah @ One Love Sarah March 3, 2011 at 9:22 am

looks so good! Lately mine is greek yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, and chocolate granola. yum!

Kelly March 3, 2011 at 9:25 am

Bagels Forever Bagel toasted with Philadelphia Cream Cheese. Every Day.

I’m so lame.

Michelle March 3, 2011 at 9:38 am

Lately I’ve been loving greek yogurt, Kashi GoLean, and a heaping spoonful of peanut butter. I can’t start my day without peanut butter!

Susan March 3, 2011 at 9:42 am

Fried egg sandwich with bacon or cheese. Side of orange slices because real fruit > juice. One cup of coffee before breakfast, one cup after ;) I’ve been eating fried egg sandwiches regularly for breakfast since I learned how to fry my first egg a gazillion years ago.

Megan (Running Foodie) March 3, 2011 at 9:48 am

My fave breakfast is whole wheat toast, hummus, avocado, and a drippy egg with some hot sauce. Plus coffee, OF COURSE.

Danielle March 3, 2011 at 9:53 am

Is that a ripe banana, you say? A really ripe one? YUM.

Jeni @ stepping out March 3, 2011 at 10:08 am

I think my perfect breakfast would be waffles, a little bit of whipped cream, strawberries and peaches with a side of scrambled eggs. (What am I doing! I’m making myself hungry and I just ate lunch. :D)

Katie March 3, 2011 at 10:27 am

I am SO with you on coffee being a MUST! For some reason today, my coffee is not helping me stay awake : p Im dragging booty today : p

I love oats! Oats have been rocking my breakfast world lately ; )

<3 xoxo

Meister @ The Nervous Cook March 3, 2011 at 10:39 am

I eat muesli every morning; it’s the highlight of my day! I soak it overnight with a little soy milk, cinnamon, and frozen berries or frozen sliced banana, and when I wake up it’s a perfect not-too-sweet chilled bowl of mush that keeps me going all day. (This week, however, I’ve been on the road: The “continental breakfast” at our hotel is depressing, so I’ve been subsisting on sliced banana on whole-wheat toast.)

Stephanie @ Thorns Have Roses March 3, 2011 at 11:03 am

You pretty much nailed my perfect ideal breakfast. I’ve been drinking smoothies lately but there’s always something about that banana/nut butter/bread combo. I recently switched over to Ezekial (from your praises nonetheless) and LOOOOVVE it. Read the back to the fam the first night we tried it and we’re SOLD. :)

Katie March 3, 2011 at 12:35 pm

My breakfast preference changes as often as the weather. I actually think of YOU and THIS breakfast (which you’ve shared your love of, before) every time I don’t know what I want for my AM meal.

I’m currently on a green monster kick for breakfast…but that will probably change soon.

Britannie March 3, 2011 at 12:57 pm

Starbucks owns me for perfect breakfasts–skinny vanilla latte, starbucks multigrain bagel + justins maple almond butter + banana. AMAZING!

Jenn L @ Peas and Crayons March 3, 2011 at 12:57 pm

I agree — alllllways coffee =)

some days i’ll just eat fruit and coffee and others i’ll crave a yummy breakfast sandwich – but alllways coffee! <3

Megan (Braise the Roof) March 3, 2011 at 1:32 pm

Girl, I thought I had kicked my coffee habit, but no. It’s back in full form. Although, I’ve been waiting until about 11am to brew a cup at work, which is right when the mid-morning munchies kick in. Keeps me from eating my arm off before lunch. :)

Jen March 3, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Looks freaking delicious!
Breakfast perfection for me is two slices of toast, buttered with drippy eggs on top.

Mary @ Bites and Bliss March 3, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Yumm! PB&B sandwiches are love. :)

K - Anywhere There's An Airport March 3, 2011 at 1:47 pm

Grapefruit, Pear, Kiwi chopped bite size + Vanilla Brown Rice Protein Powder + Lots of Cinnamon!! – (Mix all together) + Coffee (on the side) = Breakfast Perfection

Kristie March 3, 2011 at 1:55 pm

PB (or AB in your case) and banana toast = best combo ever.
Perfect breakfast, that’s a toughie. Right now I’d say a nice stack of spelt pancakes with peanut butter/yogurt “frosting” and some fresh fruit.

megan @ the oatmeal diaries March 3, 2011 at 4:03 pm

Besides pumpkin pancakes, I have beening LOVING a breakfast similar to this! Two pieces of Lawson’s seed & grain bread with Naturally More PB, mashed nanner (so much better than sliced), and a cup of TJ’s cinnamon vanilla tea w/ soymilk. PERFECTION.

amanda March 3, 2011 at 5:27 pm

always coffee…i like that sentence! because, yes, most definitely there needs to always be coffee.

umm…perfect breakfast? toughhh. either french toast christmas morning style. i melt for french toast. orrrrrr, bacon egg and cheese on a toasted bagel. swooooooooon.

kathleen March 3, 2011 at 5:42 pm

Reading everyone’s breakfast is making me hungry. It used to be oats. Lately, it’s a smoothie. Almond milk,, banana, chocolate & spinach or kale.

Jessica @ Dishin' About Nutrition March 3, 2011 at 6:24 pm

Dang, that looks so much better than my breakfast! I love Eziekel bread!

Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches March 3, 2011 at 7:40 pm

Perfect breakfast: oatmeal with 1/2 mashed banana + 1/4 cup pumpkin + scoop of Justin’s maple almond butter + granola
Holy crap deliciosity.

Sarah March 4, 2011 at 5:10 am

That’s one of my favorite breakfasts, too! Right down to the cinnamon and coffee.

Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) March 4, 2011 at 5:52 am

This. Right here. Definitely the most perfect breakfast.

I’ve been having the same for at least 3 days now, with some strawberries on the side for extra measure. So delicious. :D

Lauren March 4, 2011 at 5:54 am

Does sound perfect!

sisters running the kitchen March 4, 2011 at 8:11 am

YUM. love breakfast! is it sad that what I am going to eat for breakfast is the last thing i think about before bed and the first thought that pops in my mind when i awake in the morning? anyways— my perfect breakfast? hmmm i guess it changes on my mood but I would have to go with baked banana and raisin oatmeal with almond butter (melted) on top

chelsey @ clean eating chelsey March 4, 2011 at 11:37 am

Perfect breakfast is oatmeal that is soaked overnight and then cooked in the morning (think lotza volume) with 1/2 banana whisked in. Topped with anything my heart desires, but the more PB, the better!!

G. March 4, 2011 at 2:51 pm

Just found your blog via Peas and Thank You. :) My fave breakfast right now is Bob’s Red Mill GF Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal with mashed banana, rice milk, pinch of cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg, splash of vanilla, and ground flaxseed! No sweetener needed, the banana is sweet enough. Sometimes I add a dollop of natural pb, too. :)

Kate (What Kate is Cooking) March 4, 2011 at 3:21 pm

My perfect breakfast is anything that is very sweet, chocolately, and has nut butter in some capacity :)

Jenny March 4, 2011 at 4:26 pm

I love that you compliment your “no salt” almond butter with a pinch of sea salt. How semi-homemade ;)

Jess March 4, 2011 at 8:57 pm

My perfect breakfast includes EGGS, greek yogurt, and fruit :D

Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table March 4, 2011 at 11:09 pm

PB + banana toast is hard to top, but I swear to sweet baby jesus this tastes like banana pudding: http://wp.me/p16jDn-gH. Swear. Cold. Or heat it in the morning with a few choc chips and it’s even better.

My fav 3am-and-I-haven’t-been-to-bed-yet b’fast is the classic Waffle House egg and cheese sandwich with a side of hashbrowns. Well done. And maybe a chocolate chip waffle. Not that I would ever eat that trash… or be out that late…

Lauren http://theclimbingchef.blogspot.com/ March 6, 2011 at 2:00 pm

YUM!!
