Inspiration is a funny thing.

You never find it when you’re actually looking for it. Or praying for it, in my case.

It’s kinda like those rare moments when I go to the mall with a wad of cash I’ve saved up for months to spend. I NEVER find anything cute. However, when I’m strapped for the Benjamins, Anthropologie always manages to be having the most amazing sale ever. Why oh why God must you do that to me?

Even worse, it’s like men. When I go out looking for Mr. Tall-dark-and-handsome-with-an-amazing-sense-of-humor-and-blue-eyes-to-boot, I’m more likely to find a Jackie Chan wannabe kung fu instructor who jumps up in the middle of a busy bar to teach me self-defense moves.

True story.

Plus, who needs self defense when you have the power to nag a potential kidnapper to death?

Not me.

In other words, what I’m trying to say is that I’ve been uninspired lately.

Since getting back from vacay with Susan, I’ve spent 95% of my time doing three things: sleeping, working and eating. Throw in a couple workouts and some hours spent reading novels in bed, and you’ve got my life in a nutshell this past week.

Breakfast have consisted of bowls of cereal, PB+B toast and the occasional yog mess…

1 cup Fage 0% plain Greek yog
3/4 cup strawberries
1 crumbled Strawberry Coconut Oatmeal Cookie
handful Optimum Banana Nut Cereal
dollop of peanut butter

My daily snacks have been courtesy of a new find I discovered grocery shopping this past weekend visiting Mama + Daddy Everythingtarian…

OMG…these things are AH-MAY-ZING! Sugared up with stevia (our fave natural sweetener), I’ve been popping theseĀ almonds like they’re candy, which they practically are.

Lunches have been quintessentially random but have always contained lots of greens, carbage and a lil’ something sweet…

And dinner has almost always involved one of these buns…

This is the second package of three I received from Nature’s Pride (in conjunction with Foodbuzz), and I am not going to lie: every once in awhile, nothing tastes better than empty white carbohydrates.

In case you didn’t catch it from the above picture, six of those eight buns are already gone from the package. Exactly six of those eight buns have also been eaten slathered with peanut butter + jelly.

So good.

Like so, so good. Sometimes I forget how good PB+J on plain ol’ white bread is.

Tonight however, I thought I would change it up. How’s about some asparagus (sauteed in EVOO + garlic) alongside a toasted bun, yellow mustard + Sunshine Breakfast Burger?

Plus, one camera shy Spotted Cow beer. Quite frankly, after I ran 3 miles in the stifling heat, nothing sounded better than downing this meal with a crisp, cool Wisconsin brew.

There you have it: the first full day of eats I’ve documented in awhile.

In case you were one of the several people who commented + e-mailed me to see if I was okay after not blogging for 3 days, I am indeed okay. I’ve just been taking a breather from technology and blogs to enjoy the simple things and relax, something I am admittedly bad at.

So, until next time…

Have you bought your copy of the 55 Knives cookbook yet?

Did you recite your new mantra 10 times in front of the mirror yet? Walk the walk!

Have you wished Brandi a very happy birthday?

Mint Dark Chocolate almonds? You have me prepared for a almond hunt this weekend, girlie!

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is June 24, 2010 at 7:49 pm

I have not seen those almonds! I must go find them this weekend!

Lauren June 24, 2010 at 7:53 pm

It’s my new mission in life to find these almonds!!! I’m still loving your buns! :)

Jess June 24, 2010 at 8:25 pm

I think your life this past week sounds great :) Haha, all the delicious eats especially! HOORAY for almonds.

The Rabbit Runner June 24, 2010 at 8:43 pm

I hate to say it, but every time i make a PB & J it HAS to be on white bread. its the only way I can bring back my almost gone childhood. no worries though because its delicious!

hope the next couple of days are inspirational :)

Abby June 24, 2010 at 8:49 pm

Dudette, just like we all need white bread or greasy bar food once in awhile, we all need a break from blogging and technology in general. It’s a hobby my dear, and should be indulged when the spirit strikes and never forced.

But damn if that isn’t true about having money to spend and nothing to find, or the perfect find and no money to spend. Also, you always meet Mr. Right (or Mr. Right Now because he’s hot) while on a date with Mr. Creeple. Oh well…that’s why they make chocolate almonds.

Matt June 24, 2010 at 8:53 pm

Beer tastes AMAZING after a hot run ;)

claire June 24, 2010 at 8:55 pm

I can’t believe those nuts are sweetened with stevia…good for them! ha. No worries about not blogging lady! I could never be an every day blogger. Oh, and I love pb and j on buns…yum!

Katharina June 24, 2010 at 9:18 pm

I just read the beginning part of your post outloud to my mom and we both laughed. Even amongst a sea of (dis)inspiration you manage to crack a smile (I hope because I wouldn’t be able to write that without atleast chuckling to myself lol). Anywho, I loved the deli rolls! They were my favorite!! For the country white bakery buns I made them into croutons (check out my latest post for a recipe) because I wasn’t too crazy about them. But as croutons.. I am coo coo for buns! Bakery buns that is ;) I like the “Saveur miel et noix” bar by the way. I see you brought some souvenirs back with you! And animal frosted cookies make me smile :) Animal crackers are after all my favorite cracker, and yes that includes all those fabulous fancy brands like Dr. Krackers and those Mary Gone Crackers.

p.s. I’ve been wondering about when my prince charming will come to. Actually, it’s my facebook status right now. A friend of mine was saying that the prettiest and coolest girls she knows are single. Who knows why! But I’m pretty sure you fit that category. Maybe the men don’t have the balls to come up to us (with the exception of creepy old men and psychos), so they just admire from afar :p

amanda June 24, 2010 at 9:34 pm

the image of the wannabe karate kid makes me chuckle! what a way to win a gal’s heart, no? sweet karate moves will have you swooning in no time!

and those almonds sound delish!

Mandiee June 24, 2010 at 9:35 pm

Haha I love the story of the kung fu instructor. Honestly, as much as that must have been disappointing when you’re looking for Mr. Right, it does make for a great story. I’m totally with you on the cute clothes thing as well. It seems that when I’m in a spending mood, nothing feels right. Oh, but Anthro always feels right, however, their prices don’t always. I can’t even tell you how jealous I am of those almonds. I looked on Blue Diamonds website and they’re not listing them yet. Boo. Chocolate, mint, and almonds, all sweetened with stevia?! Could this be a dream?

Have a lovely day!

Run Sarah June 24, 2010 at 10:30 pm

Mint dark chocolate almonds?! Those sound amazing! Novels in bed = necessary part of life, no matter how busy.

Madeline - Greens and Jeans June 24, 2010 at 10:55 pm

No matter how many times I try to convince myself that I ONLY like wheat bread, sometimes white bread rolls are just freaking fantastic. As is Anthropologie. Is that skirt on super sale yet? Because you NEED it in your life.

Molly June 25, 2010 at 12:00 am

yup, missed you while you were away, but glad you were able to take some ‘you time’ and enjoy life in the slow lane (kinda). i definitely will be making that almond purchase when i step off the plane onto mpls ground in T-MINUS 39 FREAKIN’ DAYS. OMG. please tell me you’ll be takin’ a trip to minny soon/?!?!?! we have some meetin’ up to be had….calhoun anyone? love you girl!

Jenn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) June 25, 2010 at 1:32 am

There’s nothing wrong with white bread now and then. There’s really not that much difference, just the fiber and vitamins, but if you are getting enough fruits + veggies in your diet, it balances out.

Jamie @ Tearaveler June 25, 2010 at 2:25 am

Oh dear you crack me up! I am literally sitting her laughing and the Nepalese kids next to me in this internet cafe are giving me the weirdest looks – not that I’m laughing at your uninspired slump, but your dry humor about it =)

Mint AND Dark Chocolate AND Almonds?!?! Sold. I’m with Molly, right when I step off the plane in Mpls, I’m buying them (which for me is a few months away… =( I’m getting really home sick for the comforts of my kitchen).

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) June 25, 2010 at 7:45 am

MINT AND DARCK CHOCOLATE ALMONDS? I need to find these! I was seriously addicted to the brown sugar ones when I was a freshman in college and could not stop eating them. But this flavor sounds even more amazing. Oh my.

brandi June 25, 2010 at 7:52 am

mint chocolate almonds?!? I need these in my life.

Thanks for the birthday wishes :)

Megan @ The Oatmeal Diaries June 25, 2010 at 9:40 am

Blue Diamonds make the best almonds everrr. The honey are my current fave! And I definitely had those frosted animal crackers the other day when I was working at preschool. YUM. Also i love love love your mantra idea.. I’m starting that asap! :)

Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete June 25, 2010 at 10:02 am

You will be fine! Sometimes a little break will do wonders for your material! I’ve had zero time to blog lately, and I have tons of ideas! It sucks. Happy eating, girl!

samantha June 25, 2010 at 11:18 am

it’s the well documented post vacation let down! you are definitely catching up on sleep, and definitely hyper aware of the fact that you’re not in beautiful banff anymore. so no worries, you’ll bounce back in no time.

in other news, urban daddy (a dc email that goes out hawking cool things in the city) was advertising a 55 knives GET TOGETHER with dc bloggers at a popular bar! i wanted to go but couldn’t (boo work), but thought you would find that tidbit cool.

BroccoliHut June 25, 2010 at 11:24 am

Ah man, I hate it when I get in inspiration-less funks. Hope your inspiration returns pronto!
Those almonds sound pretty fantastic, although I am coveting those frosted animal cookies too–THOSE bring back memories:)

Laura June 25, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Those almonds do sound so good and i don’t even LIKE almonds! xx

Megan June 25, 2010 at 12:05 pm

I would just like to point out that your package of rolls says it contains SIX (not eight)!! So really, you only ate four. Nothin’ to be ashamed of! When you start doubling up and use 2 rolls for one burger that’s when we need to stage an intervention. :)

Kristin (Salty Tooth) June 25, 2010 at 1:07 pm

OMG, I just purchased those almonds and they are amazing. I already finished the jar…

Diana @ frontyardfoodie June 25, 2010 at 4:05 pm

aww, uninspiration sucks. But next thing you know something crazy will happen in your life and after a whirlwind of random changes you’ll be like “how could I ever have not been inspired?! The world is so amazing!”

Lorna June 25, 2010 at 5:51 pm

Your posts like to make me hungry :). I too, will make it my mission to find these almonds!!! Inspiration, like cats, comes when it feels like it, so don’t take it too personally, lol. Your post inspired me anyway (see almonds above, and your general diet plan–the greens thing). So thank you and Peace!

Crystal June 25, 2010 at 8:21 pm

Oh hello, frosted animal cookiesl; they are rather lovely.

mammaeverythingtarian June 25, 2010 at 9:12 pm

So tell me how a young lady like yourself could possibly be uninspired when…..you have just come back from an amazing trip to Canada, lived in Thailand for a year, spent two months in Australia, spent a semester in London, visited Irelannd, Italy and more (pre-dementia) have awesome health care, live in a health conscience city, ran a marathon and two half Marys, have great legs,no ass, gorgeous curly hair, full lips, beautiful eyes, clever yet humurous personality, daddys brains(lucky), natural @ yoga, natural @ dance, three sisters, caring father, unconventional hilarious mom and you cant find an ounce of inspiration from all dat!!! Damn bitch-praise Jesus

Bekah June 26, 2010 at 8:46 am

mmm those dark chocolate covered almonds so TASTY! Especially ground up to make cocoa almond butter a la Deb. Have not tried the mint ones yet though! I see a grocery trip in my near future.

As far as this post goes.. I think we’re meant to have some of those un-inspiring weeks/days because it makes the inspired days so much better, more worth while and more meaningful! I don’t think I could handle an inspiring day, every single day of the week. Although your vacay with Susan in Banff seemed pretty damn spectacular. :) You’re a doll Holly! I always laugh reading your posts.

Rosey Rebecca June 26, 2010 at 11:05 am

I find your yogurt messes inspirational. I’ve just been inspired to buy 45934 tons of yogurt and 98459 pounds of strawberries. So, thank you.

Kati June 26, 2010 at 7:17 pm

Hey, I’ve been reading your blog for awhile but haven’t commented because I JUST started my own…but I basically LOVE your bit of inspiration! Thanks!

Kati June 26, 2010 at 7:18 pm

PS – don’t even tempt me with Anthropologie. My debit card has $7 on it.

Susan June 28, 2010 at 2:05 pm

YES to a yog mess with cookie in it. Strawberry coconut oatmeal sounds particularly good! As does FROSTED animal cookies. I must find those.

Love your mama’s comment ;) Even when you yourself are feeling uninspired, you’re still inspiring me!!!

By the bye, I miss Banff like nobody’s business. I’m seriously considering going to British Columbia next summer to work!
