five in five

in randomness,top 5

I love lists. It’s probably why Janetha and I are friends. It’s also probably why I keep stealing her idea of five things lists. I’ve done it once, and I’m doing it again. Then, I plan on taking a shower, purtying myself up and meeting Brett + friends out for a drank. Consequently, I will be coming home by 11pm and sleeping the night away as long as my Everythingtarian REM cycle will let me.

As of right now, the weekend is my oyster.

And so, without further ado…

five books currently sitting on my bookshelf to read

five blogs you probably aren’t reading but should

my five favorite holiday desserts

  • Mama E’s Homemade Apple Crisp <- double crumble topping {!!!}
  • grasshoppers
  • Grandma Beatrice’s jello molds <- fruit punch jello with diced canned pineapple = my fave
  • angel food cake with fresh berries on the 4th of July <- see here
  • peanut brittle

my top five pet peeves

  • clothing that fades from one color to another (a.k.a. ombre)
  • rude people
  • big globs of ketchup <- think high school boys, French fries and school cafeteria lunches
  • migraines <- currently working towards fixing this one
  • when you have an itch on the bottom of your foot but you can’t quite scratch it because you have shoes on

the five places in the world I want to travel to most

– Gingerbread Men (mainly because they are so cute and the toddler and I have a tradition to bake them together)

Heather December 11, 2010 at 8:24 am

girl, I love everything about this list! especially that you are reading one of my favorite books ever. it’s a long read, and gets kind of confusing, but so so good. also, I might be going to Argentina this summer for a women’s studies class…if I can afford it. I also hate clothing that fades from one color to another, as well as unnecessary sequins/studs/glitter/designs on pockets of jeans. UGH.

julie December 11, 2010 at 9:17 am

Why haven’t I seen you in forever?!? We must fix this. Also, I may be trying to plan a trip to Buenos Aires in the late spring/early summer of next year with Chris and one of our friends (and maybe her boyfriend?). You would definitely be invited if you wanted. My friend has also been to Igauzu Falls before (traveling from BA) so maybe she could help you out with that part? And trust me, the Argentine men will love you ;).

I read some of Gabriel Marquez’s stuff in college and *loved* it!

I also read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and Pride and Prejudice. Both amazing. You have some really, really good reads on your list! :D

allison marie December 12, 2010 at 10:18 am

I *loved* 100 Years of Solitude, which was a welcome surprise since I *hated* Love in the Time of Cholera.

Five books that are currently on my bookshelf:
1. Freedom, Jonathan Franzen. I’m about 150 pages in, and so far I really like it. The first 25 pages or so was really hard for me because I wasn’t used to his narrative voice. My only other complaint is that the chapters are super long, but I’m not sure why this bothers me, since it doesn’t always. More or less, this is a good read.
2. The Road, Cormac McCarthy.
3. Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy.
4. Fly Away Home, Jennifer Weiner.
5. My Life in France, Julia Child.

I love seeing what everyone else is reading :)

Low December 12, 2010 at 12:17 pm

I just read Marquez’s newest book Memories of my Melancholy Whores. It was my first time reading him and I can’t believe it, must get on his other books. I also read Ann Lamott’s Imperfect Birds in one day yesterday. It was amazing. I became a part of it and it enraptured me. Love love.
Oh and the shoe itch thing? HATE!

Five places I want to travel:

Australia
Ireland
NYC (never been there, major fail)
Thailand
Argentina/Chile/Brazil (yeah I cheated…)

Erica D December 12, 2010 at 11:21 pm

five books currently sitting on my bookshelf to read:

1. “Playing the Enemy” John Carlin > About Nelson Mandela’s use of rugby to unite South Africa. So much amazingness!
2. “In Defense of Food” Michael Pollan > I could marry this man
3. “Love in the Time of Cholera” > I’ve heard nothing but great things, and it happens to be on the bookshelf…
4. “A Brave New World” Aldous Huxley > My friend is a philosophy minor, and she tells me that I often sound like I’m reciting lines from this book.
5. “Atlas Shrugged” Ayn Rand > I already love The Fountainhead. It’s time to move on to Rand’s other huge monster of a book.

P.S. Grasshoppers = Probably my favorite drink.
Pride and Prejudice = My favorite book AND movie :)

Jessica December 13, 2010 at 11:08 am

Have I mentioned my brother (the one you’re going to marry) studied abroad in Argentina?!

HAHAHAHAH

Special K December 29, 2010 at 5:43 am
