Flashback Friday, Flash Forward Sunday

by Holly on October 2, 2009

in running,seriousness

After more than 3 months of training, I am almost there.  A 26.2 mile run there to be exact. The Twin Cities Marathon is indeed less than 48 hours away.

Now, this may sound pretty dramatic and like I am building this race up to be something huge.  I am.  Because for me, this IS huge.

If you had told me even five years ago that I would be running a marathon.  I would have laughed in your face, much like I would have laughed in your face had you told me I would have a food blog.  A healthy one to boot.  When I was younger, I was insecure about how I looked, which just masked the insecurity I felt about myself as a whole.  Now, not only I am I confident in how I look, but more importantly, I am confident in who I am.  Like always, I am not perfect. I have my days.  But finally, I feel like I’m in a good place mentally, physically and spiritually.  That, you cannot put a price on.

Back when I shared with y’all my bucket list, I realized all I had actually accomplished.  Also, I was reminded by my friend Alison to add “Run a marathon” to the list.  Consider it added.

So, in true Janetha Flashback Friday style, I think it is only appropriate to flashback to where I have been, paving the way for the next post on (hopefully) Sunday, which will flash forward post-marathon…

2003 – Spring Break in L.A. post-Nine Eyes concert

2004 – Study Abroad in London

2004 – Rome, Italy

2004 – Haversfordwest, Wales

2004 – Madrid, Spain @ Almudena Catedral

2004 – Riding the London Eye

2005 – Halloween in Madtown

Doing what we do best

2006 – Climbing trees in the Australian bush

2006 – Badger Game Time

2008 – Siem Riep, Cambodia

2008 – Saimai, Bangkok, Thailand 7-11 (where I ate many of my meals)

<Insert picture of me post-marathon here>

So there you have it. A little slice of where I’ve been and where I hope to go on Sunday.

Thank you all SO MUCH for all of your encouragement, comments and positive vibes you’ve given me over the past months.  You have honestly helped get me through those long runs, short runs, yoga sessions and stretching all leading up to 8am on October 4th – the big marathon start time.  I will be resting up the rest of the weekend, including a family casino night tonight to celebrate the sister’s 18th birthday!

Ta ta for now…can’t wait to recap the weekend’s shenanigans with all of you on Sunday!  Have a wonderful weekend!

As you know I’m not a ga-ga food guy. I think this introspective openess in your blog entries is much more meaningful, beneficial and interesting for you and your dedicated readers. Makes yer “wonderfully eccentric” uncle proud of you.
