Foodbuzz Festival, day two (part one)

I love bakeries.

More specifically, I love bread.

While I can easily refuse pasta, rice, potato chips and the like, you put a decadent pastry or hunk of fresh bread in front of me and all bets are off. Yours truly can and will go to Everythingtarian town eating anything and everything related to the bread family.

You may be able to imagine my excitement then upon finally making the decision to head to San Francisco for the 2nd Annual Foodbuzz Blogger Festival this weekend. While San Fran is home to such famed originals as the Golden Gate Bridge, sourdough bread and the craziest gay pride festival known to man, it is also home to Tartine Bakery and Cafe.

It’s organic, quintessentially French and located on 18th + Guerrero in the Mission.

When us four blogger roomies (plus Danica’s awesome husband Jay) got within a block of the bakery, the wafting smell of sweet pastries absolutely permeated the air. I don’t know if you can eat air, but if you can, that is exactly what I wanted to do in that moment.

But it gets better.

When we actually got into the bakery after standing in line outside for ten minutes or so, we were greeted with the gorgeous sight of flaky, rich, amazing and downright scrumptious-looking bakery options.

The pressure was on.

I needed to decide what to order.

Do I go with the classic scone with currants? Do I want a slice of that beautiful meringue cake? Oooohhh, that gougere filled with cheese looks delightful…maybe that?

In the end, I listened to my gut.

Coffee and one Morning Bun with orange cinnamon sugar?

Don’t mind if I do…

If these pictures don’t do this bun enough foodie justice already, I will confirm this is one of the most perfect pastries I have ever eaten in my almost 26 years of life. On the outside, its texture was flaky like a croissant. Once I reached the ooey gooey center, it was exactly that: ooey and gooey.

And not too sweet.

Did I mention it was majorly delicious?

It doesn’t hurt that I got to share this experience with good company…

Jay, Susan, Janetha and Elise.

Did I mention we all love coffee?

It’s just one more thing I love about my Foodbuzz Fest roomies.┬áBecause like I said, I feel like I’ve known these ladies (and gent!) for years.

I take my opening statement back.

I love bakeries.

I really do.

More specifically, I love bread.

I really do.

Most specifically, I love eating bread in amazing bakeries with fabulous people.

I really do.

DO you love bread? On a scale of 1 to 10, how much would you say you love it? How do you think other people feel about you giving the finger in your blog post?

I want another bun. More specifically, I want another butter laden bun, eaten whilst with you.

Kaley November 8, 2010 at 3:30 pm

You have just described what Spain is all about: bread, pastries, coffee…AMEN! If you threw in some red wine and cheese, you’d be set.

Love this post and your roomies are obviously amazing too.

Little Bookworm November 8, 2010 at 3:33 pm

I almost didn’t want to read this post because I knew I would be envious and hate you a little bit. The bread? Lovely. But the company? Killer. Jealous ;)

TOTALLY loved meeting you, and YES we are going to be getting together soon. We could each drive an hour and go hang in Milwaukee :)

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) November 8, 2010 at 5:46 pm

Loved meeting you!

Sorry it wasnt for longer…but there will be other meetups, no doubt!

As an aside, would love to go to the Pride parade in SF. I go every year here in San Diego (we live on the parade route) and in 05 I went to Halloween in the Castro in SF. Talk about 10,000 amazing people and eye candy :)

Erica D November 8, 2010 at 6:34 pm

Mmmm. Bread. By the way, have you been listening to all the talk about the USDA both condemning and supporting the cheese industry? Just wondering, on account of your Midwestern-ness :)

Lauren November 8, 2010 at 6:44 pm

So glad you loved the bread, the bakeries and all of the wonderful people. This weekend seemed like a complete blast.

chelsey @ clean eating chelsey November 8, 2010 at 7:24 pm

Love you!!! xoxo

Katie November 8, 2010 at 9:43 pm

I would have been a deer sin headlights staring at the bakery. I used to work in one in high school, back in the days of an over active metabolism, thank god, because I could put down some baked goods. Oh, boy.

You ladies look like you had a wee bit of fun…

Christine November 8, 2010 at 10:38 pm

If those photos don’t do it justice it must have been OUT OF THIS WORLD, because those are some pretty pretty awesome pics!

I want.

Susan November 8, 2010 at 10:59 pm

Baaaahaha to Janetha’s comment. I can’t wait to come back and hear the answers!

Sami November 9, 2010 at 7:36 am

Kacy November 9, 2010 at 8:46 am

Sigh… why wasn’t I there?! That looks like a perfect moment in time. So happy you ate such good food and had such fun.

Meghan@travelwinedine November 9, 2010 at 9:56 am

Those pastries look gorgeous! I loved meeting you and wish we had gotten to chat more. Your blog is so great!

Damaris @Kitchen Corners November 9, 2010 at 11:52 am

First of all your limo post below made me jealous. I came up with my food encrusted subaru. You healthy food bloggers have way more style.

Second, that bakery looks devine. I love going to SF but am always so bummed so leave, leave behind so many yummy places I haven’t yet been to.

ps. I think you’re a lovely person.

Katie November 9, 2010 at 1:05 pm

I love your recaps! I also really love bread, and this post (and last) make me wish I could have been there so badly! I’m glad I can live vicariously through everyone’s photos/words! Happy Tuesday, lady – glad you got to live it up in San Fran. :-)

Callie @ Callieflower Kitchen November 9, 2010 at 7:49 pm

Hey, I found your blog through Susan and Janetha! Mmm those bakery items look so delicious :)

Also, I just had to comment and say that I have the same camera strap as you!!

Danica November 21, 2010 at 8:58 am

I am seriously still dreaming about those buns….I NEED another one :D

Jessica @ Healthy Dairyland June 8, 2011 at 10:31 am

I leave for SF one week from today. This post has me more excited than seeing Full House or the Golden Gate Bridge. I need a morning bun!!!
