From the Freezer

in breakfast,dinner,lunch

I am writing this post from the comfort of my parent’s house in front of the burnin’ fireplace while watching Glee and could not love singing along watching it more.

Since I had some personal days to use up, I took today off work in order to get my thangs together and hit the road early in preparation of Snowpocalypse #2 of 2009, predicted to hit tonight.  My apartment is spic n’ span, the presents are wrapped, and I have the whooolllleeee rest of the week off.  This makes me happy.

Breakfast was Cheesy Savory Oats

1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup water + 1/2 cup organic skim milk
pinch of salt
1 oz. shredded cranberry chipotle cheddar cheese
2 eggs (well…kinda…)

DOUBLE YOLKS! That’s gotta be good luck, right?

Before I hit the road, I hit up the coop for some good car snackage…

These Snappeas (haha, get it?) are delish. They are made from snap peas, corn oil and rice (in that order) and are the closest I think I am going to get to veggie crack.  I had to stop myself from eating the whole bag, which I almost did successfully. Key word being ‘almost.’

Dinner was a classic “Fend For Yourself” night at the Everythingtarian household.

That meant I dug my hand into the depths of the freezer and pulled these out…

Nuked and plated on my childhood Campbell’s Soup plate…

A delicious combo, if I do say so meself.

For dessert, Blueberry Chobani, a crumbled Kashi Blackberry Graham bar and a side of Keeping Up with the Kardashians’. I have to agree with Krazy Khloe…Scott is a total douche lord.

P.S. I am also planning to incorporate the phrase “douche lord” into my vocabulary more often.

Alrighty kiddos…sorry to make it short, but the family is about to embark on a competitive game of Bananagrams while watching the 1984 classic Footloose.  Life is good.

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve…bring it on Santa!

Madeline @ GreensAndJeans December 23, 2009 at 9:24 pm

My friends and I have always said that someone like lame-o Scott is the “Captain of the Douche Canoe.” Jealous of your game of Bananagrams!

Matt December 23, 2009 at 9:39 pm

Have fun at home! Hopefully you can take your parents longer than I can ;)

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is December 23, 2009 at 9:39 pm

Danielle (Coffee Run) December 23, 2009 at 10:23 pm

I agree- Scott is a major. douche lord. It’s interesting that the “snap pea” crisps are made from green beans?

Dorothy December 23, 2009 at 11:22 pm

I don’t watch anything with the Kardashians, but that was seriously one of the funniest posts I’ve read in awhile. Oh, and I love those ‘snap peas’! Happy Holidays!

Rebecca December 23, 2009 at 11:30 pm

OMG Holly.. did you say Cranberry Chipotle Cheddar cheese… I might die. I need some.

daintyvegan December 24, 2009 at 12:23 am

Are those yellow carrots?! :O Never had those before although I think I may have seen them in the grocery store. Maybe. Rainbow carrots or something?

Shelley December 24, 2009 at 1:22 am

Nicole December 24, 2009 at 4:19 am

Those savory oats look great!! They totally reminded me that I have some cheesy grits that I have to eat in the fridge! Merry Christmas and enjoy your time off!!! ;)

Lauren December 24, 2009 at 5:53 am

Sounds like everything is perfect at home! :) Glad you made it there safely.

Wishing you a blessed Christmas filled with so much love, joy and happiness.

Love you girl!

Susan December 24, 2009 at 6:16 am

“the closest I think I am going to get to veggie crack”

Then I do not recommend dipping them in almond butter. Just don’t do it. It is so good you may never stop ;)

Oooh, douchebag is Chris’ favourite insult. I’ll have to inform him of “douche lord”

Have a wonderful time with the fam Holly!!! xoxoxo

Erica December 24, 2009 at 6:32 am

I always see those snap pea crisps and ALMOST buy them. Now I will have to give them a go. Glad you got all your to dos done and are relaxing. Merry Christmas Eve

Uncle Tommie Timbertoes December 24, 2009 at 6:47 am

Hola seniorita, have a uber-delicious Whittlef Xmas and don’t fergit to check out the all the Xmas cards (but especially mine)cuz: Christmas cards are like floating dogwood seeds. They grow from the sentiment tree. Around the same time each year they are released and carried by unseen forces which guide them to their final destinations. There they drop, plant themselves and grow another sentiment tree.

Luv yer hair

Mellissa December 24, 2009 at 7:05 am

Sounds like you are prepped and ready for some quality family Christmas funtime. Enjoy!!

Andrea@WellnessNotes December 24, 2009 at 8:33 am

Stay warm & Merry Christmas! :)

Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) December 24, 2009 at 8:49 am

I love the idea of eggs on oatmeal. I’ve tried it before, but never seem to get the ingredient proportions quite right. You’ve inspired me to try, try again. :D

Hope you have a splendid Christmas Eve and Christmas!! :D

K December 24, 2009 at 8:59 am

Douche Lord is the best thing to come out of that TV show – LOVE that term (yes, I used it regularly in everyday life)! Glad you made it home!!

Chelsea @ (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) December 24, 2009 at 9:03 am

Merry Christmas Holly Ringwald! (Can I please call you that from now on?)

Double yolks are like the opposite of snake eyes, so yes, I think they’re a good sign/luck.

I LOVE snap peas. They’re incredibly addicting. There’s a brand that I love that’s only available at Japanese supermarkets. The snap peas are anthropromorphized on the package. It’s cute.

Have a great time with the fam and stay safe in the Snowpocalypse!

Katie December 24, 2009 at 9:11 am

Glad you made it home safely! My friend jsut recounted one of her horror stories getting from the Cities to Iowa… not for the faint of heart.

I’ve already been curious about those snap pea crisps… glad they got your seal of approval.

Merry Christmas Eve, Holly!

Kacy December 24, 2009 at 9:16 am

I love the sounds of those Snappeas! I would have eaten the whole bag too.

Enjoy the time with your family! Merry Christmas Holly!!!

Susan December 24, 2009 at 9:22 am

Glad you’re enjoying being home! And is it unfair to Kim and Kourtney to say that Khloe is my favorite Kardashian sista? She’s clearly the voice of reason in a house of crazies. Tell it like it is, Khloe.
Merry Xmas!

Erin December 24, 2009 at 9:43 am

Have fun with the ‘rents! I am home for awhile, too. By last night, my Mom and I were already bickering…not sure how this is going to play out! Love her dearly, but we can’t live together, even for 3 days!

Merry Christmas, Holly!

Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) December 24, 2009 at 10:01 am

Love how Green Giant (the fields where so many of my MN childhood friends and I detassled corn along side the migrants) is now on the “Digestive Health” bandwagon. To me the Jolly Green Giant will ALWAYS be synonymous with hot, humid summers and backbreaking labor. Not digestive health. But I love their marketing :) Merry Xmas Holly!!!

Michelle December 24, 2009 at 10:44 am

HOLY HOLLY YES!! Scott is a freakin’ ass and I don’t understand why Khloe is the only one who has the eyes and brains to remain somewhat skeptical of his motives. I mean…the way he treats Khourtney is just not OK sometimes. I would dump his ass in a second if he were my boyfriend. UGH so frustrating to watch because I can just see him being a shitty dad.

Ok RANTS aside,
I’m totally clapping for your easy yummy dinner. Hahah Microwaveable meals are delicious if they’re by Kashi. Hahaha And the snappea thing is pretty funny actually. I can’t believe I never noticed it. :P I hope you have the BEST rockin’ christmas ever Holly pie!!!

Alison December 24, 2009 at 11:31 am

Douche Lord! CHECK! Working it in now.

Welcome home and hope you have a totally awesome, rockin holiday with your family. Hope Santa is good to you and isn’t a total Douche Lord! (See? I’m using it already!)

Cindy December 24, 2009 at 12:25 pm

oh oh….I watched Footloose last night too..and sang along with every stinkin’ song. (I think the Footloose was my 2nd “tape” I ever owned)

it’s still ratteling around in my head!

enjoy your day off…I drew the short straw so I am at the office wishing to be home!

will someone PLEASE explain to me what the heck is GLEE?
muchas gracias!

Evan Thomas December 24, 2009 at 12:30 pm

Merry Christmas! Isn’t being home the best? Especially when you don’t need to think about restocking the food you eat :-)

rebecca lustig December 24, 2009 at 12:54 pm

HUGE fan of your tv choices!

Hope you have a merry, healthy and joyful christmas eve <3

Jenny December 24, 2009 at 7:58 pm

oh god Scott MUST be loaded. That is the only reasonable explanation I can think of as to why Kourtney is in to him. Khloe totes knows whats up!

enjoy being home. yay for familia :)!!!! Love you, sugar sugar! xo

Kristie December 24, 2009 at 8:02 pm

Those snappea crisps are definitely snappea crack. I bought a bag once not that long ago and I’ve resisted buying another yet but I’ve been dreaming and lusting after them since the first encounter.

Happy fam time and Merry Christmas!!

glidingcalm December 24, 2009 at 9:04 pm

Jessica December 25, 2009 at 7:57 pm

“douche lord!!” hahahaha–i cannot get ENOUGH of that word…..ohh the kardashians, can’t live with, or without ’em. am i right?! the supposedly unscripted “drama” is just too entertaining!!!

BUT I LOVE YOU AND HOPE YOU’RE HAVING THE GREATEST TIME AT HOME!!!!!! Savory oats=still on my to-do list. Snap pea crisps= on my to-buy list. And double yolks DEF equal good luck :)

Bekah December 25, 2009 at 9:06 pm

double yolk! heck yes!! we (my fam) buy our eggs from this family at the farmers market every week, and i kid you not, some weeks almost every egg had two yolks! craziness.

But I’m obsessed with eggs, so naturally I am loving your savory oats.

Holly, my birthday is the 18th. You’re a February baby too? :):)

Hope you had a great Christmas my dear! XOXO

Jenny December 25, 2009 at 10:42 pm

You sound very cozy and relaxed! Well deserved :)
