Goodness Gratefulness

Before I start talking about anything related to food, I want to say thank you all so very much for all your wonderful, lovely comments.  Last night, I got home after yoga, grabbed a banana smooshed with almond butter and sat on the couch, reading and rereading all you had to say.  I was actually pretty nervous about writing this post, so I couldn’t have been more touched by your support.  You all had such wise, eloquent things to say, and that is why I am so grateful and happy to be a food blogger.  I encourage you all to go here and read those comments.  At the end of the day, we are all in the same boat: trying to lead the best, healthiest lives we can.  We’ve all got issues and baggage, but in the words of Mimi from Rent, “I’m lookin’ for baggage that goes with mine…”  Your baggage is welcome here anyday.

After waking up and needing an IV drip of coffee ASAP, I scarfed down a bowl of Zoe’s Honey Almond granola with vanilla almond milk alongside a naner smooshed with almond buttah

Because of the post of yesterday, I didn’t get to fully review all my the new Zoe Foods yummies!  Check out my review for the Peanut Butter Chocolate bar by clicking here.  Yesterday, I tried the Peanut Butter bar and Cranberry Currant granola. Verdict?  So far, neither bar has rocked my world.  The peanut butter one tasted similar to a Luna Peanut Butter Cookie bar, but with a slightly funny aftertaste.

However, the granola?  YES PLEASE!  Their Zoe mix (made from flaxseed, oatmeal & soybeans) is the basis of all their granolas. It has a totally lovable crunch, a hint of sweetness, a touch of cinnamon and a whole lotta yum!  There were ginormous chunks of cranberries and currants in the mix too.  The honey almond was sweet and nutty  I would totes buy Zoe’s granola again!

Lunch #1 was another ah-may-zing sandwich:  two slices toasted Ezek, 1/2 smashed avocado, 3 halved cherry tomatoes, handful o’ spinach and yellow mustard.  Anything with avocado just can’t be bad, agreed?

A handful of work and a 30-minute walk later, it was lunch #2.  The norm yogurt parfait: Stonyfield Organic vanilla, mixed berries + Zoe’s Cranberry Currant granola.

A perfectly juicy sweet nectarine for snack…

I’m definitely diggin’ the mini-meals these days – gives me something to look forward to for those seemingly never-ending days at work :).  Work was work.  However, after work, I had to haul ace across town for out 6:15pm volleyball game.  While driving like a mad, road-raged woman a responsible young adult, I chowed down on these two lovelies:

I nuked Amy’s Spinach and Feta Pocket (seriously, soooo good people – go out and buy this now!) and chowed down on the road.  Not the best way to eat, but hey, this girl was in a rush!  After the pocket, I ate Zoe’s Harvest Apple bar and am so happy to report I liked this one!  It had a really good apple flavor but without the lingering odd aftertaste.  Woowoo!

Pre-volleyball hydration…

Post-volleyball recovery fuel (we won tonight, BTW!!!)…

I came home from volleyball to find my sister had concocted Monster Cookies – could I really resist?  I think not.  Not the best way to end the day healthwise, but I have some veggie-ful meals planned for tomorrow so we will make up for it then.  I am actually also going to run 9 miles (my long run of the week) tomorrow because I am heading to a friend’s cabin this weekend. In the end, it all evens out :).

Gosh, it is such a beautiful night out tonight. I just love me my summa, summa, summatime….in the words of our friend, the Fresh Prince.

Have a fabulous evening my friends!

Yay – cross those fingers so that we can race on the same day! Mad props that you are doing the full marathon – I thought that might be a wee bit ambitious for a brand new runner!

Well done on the volleyball win! The hub plays in a weekly league too but Thursdays not Weds so it can’t be the same one – that would be just too much!

I wanna try the spinach and feta pockets! Both of those were in my dinns tonight – major fave combo!! I love how your name is written on the box for work. Many a veggie burger box of mine is adorned with my initials!

Weekend is in sight! Hoorah!

Wowee! Love your eats today, esp all that Zoe goodness! I’d really love to try them too!
And yeah, isn’t the blogging community just SO awesome? YOU are such a positive contribution to the blogging world, too! :-)

I just want to thank you again for that post. It was really incredible and made me think. A LOT. I have been eating plenty of dessert lately and kind of wondered: what is everyone going to think? Well, guess what? It was right for me! I love dessert, and I’m not going to give it up.

So go Monster Cookie!

Fabulous sandwich! The Zoe’s granola looks great, too. Congrats on winning the volleyball game! That cookie looks like the perfect way to celebrate and refuel :D Have a great run tomorrow, girl!

Great sandwich; I had almost the same thing for dinner tonight… :)

I reread all of yesterday’s comments; and yes, they are indeed awesome! Thanks again for a great post! :)

Lynn (The Actors Diet) July 8, 2009 at 11:19 pm

Congrats on winning your game! And I agree… with avocado on a sandwich, who needs mayo?? (That I use to eat by the bucket loads.) Avocado is natures creamy condiment.

Woah…9 miles? You go girl! That’s awesome!!! :D

Avocados make everything and anything amazing, I couldn’t agree more. :D

I’m definitely going to read all the responses to your previous post. I loved the post, and thought it was so thoughtful and well-said!

Yay for summa time and volleyball, fueled by beer of course ;)

Abby July 9, 2009 at 8:54 am

I have almost the same exact sandwich packed for (part of) my lunch today, minus tomatoes and add hummus :)

The spinach pockets are amazing, but need to be about ten times bigger, no?

And sadly, looking forward to my food throughout the work day just makes it a bit more bearable!

I was thinking about buying that wrap the other day. Now I definitely want to try it. I’ll be sure to pick it up once I eat my Amy’s Margherita Pizza and make some room in the fridge.

brandi July 9, 2009 at 10:08 am

ooh, you can’t beat monster cookies :) congrats on the win!

runnerskitchen July 9, 2009 at 10:29 am

That monster cookie looks amazing! The beer doesn’t look to shabby either :-) Good luck with the run!

ksgoodeats July 9, 2009 at 10:36 am

This is bad….your beer looks SO GOOD I want it right now. Haha how sad is that?! Other than THAT – sorry to hear about the bad bars, I wish PB flavored foods would you know taste good. Maybe that’s just crazy talk ;)

Kailey July 9, 2009 at 10:53 am

I spy my most favorite snack ever – banana with nut butter :)

lowandbhold July 9, 2009 at 11:15 am

I haven’t seen that Amy’s pocket yet, but it sounds like pure heaven. I want one now!

The lunch sammie looked like a little mouth, haha. I’m hungry and delirious right now.

It does all even out in the end. Have fun this weekend!

Katharina July 9, 2009 at 12:04 pm

That pocket sounds yummy!! Amys makes some really awesome stuff. Have you tried the canned thai soup? So yummy!

Lol food twins almost? I just tried zoes apple bar and it was good :) very apple-y.

Congrats on the win, girl! I like how you celebrate! Before I forget, I think its awesome what you’re training for. Its an incredible feeling to be apart of sport events with lots of people who are kinda in the same boat :) have a wonderful day sweet thang!
