Take a deep breath in…then a deep exhale out…we made it to 2012!
Last night, I celebrated with an Apple Cider Margarita in one hand and a table of 10 friends in the other. Technically, the table wasn’t physically in my hand, but I think you catch my drift. We drank, ate roasted pork loin + butternut squash lasagna + rum balls for dinner and at exactly midnight, I kissed my friend Rassa on the cheek to welcome in the new year.
But before saying good riddance to 2011, I thought about all the good times of this past year.
1. breaking a juice fast on day 1 with reuben egg rolls
2. going to the world’s largest brat festival
3. boating on Lake Monona with friends
4. eating my weight in Thai food (dare I say Thai was the cuisine of the year?)
5. obsessing over Sally Hansen nail polish strips
6. being graced with the best view of Madison
8. going to New Orleans for my best friend’s bachelorette party
9. celebrating love at seven different weddings
10. setting goals
11. doing a marathon trail relay race at Kettle Moraine State Park
12. buying these Lands End Canvas wedge boots (I can’t live without them now)
13. going to 12 different concerts (Ben Folds, Girl Talk, Death Cab for Cutie, Hall & Oates, Kanye West, The Black Keys, Atmosphere, Dessa, Fitz & the Tantrums, Rhett Miller, Jukebox the Ghost and Doomtree)
14. one word: Europe
15. eating lunch at The Good Food Cart nearly every week
16. my first two TV cooking segments!
When I woke up this morning to nurse a wee bit of a hangover, I smiled at the thought of it being a fresh new year, drank two cups of coffee, ate saltine crackers and spent the day watching How I Met Your Mother. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you know my growing obsession. I watched nearly all of season one…just today.
And then at about 4:34pm, reality hit: today marks the beginning of marathon training.
Did I mention I signed up for the Nashville Rock n’ Roll Marathon in April? My second marathon is officially 119 days away, and I’ve already put off starting training for it until tomorrow.
Happy New Year to me.

Good luck friend! I’ll be cheering you on in your training and in spirit at the race. I know you’ll give it your most valiant effort. And I also know that no matter the outcome, you’ll have a freaking blast AND have some awesome revelations along the way.
Cheers friend!
Dana
ooo good luck with your training! You can do it!
love the recap of the year and i like how you had apple cider margs AND rum balls for dessert. At least you were getting the year started off right. And putting off training til tomorrow. Love your last line.
Happy 2012!
waiiiiiit. you’re running NASHVILLE?! i might do that half this year!
one of my goals for 2012 is for us to actually meet in person. (i hope that’s not creepy.) i know you’re going to be even busier (i really didn’t know that was possible) when school starts, but we should really try to squeeze in a visit…
Happy New Year! I wish I woke up with only a wee hangover… mine is still killing me. Panic attack and all… god, the older I get the worse these stupid hangovers get! Anyway, glad you had a good one and your marathon will be great!!
I like yours. Short and sweet. Thank you for not rambling about the past year. This year is OURS.
Looks like you had a fabulous year, and Apple Cider Margaritas sound amazing (bookmarked for the future). Happy New Year!
Good luck with the training Holly and happy 2012! Looking forwarding to more great posts and fun TV segments!
whoooooooooooooooooop! So awesome. I really want to do a half this year. I’ve run the distance in my neighborhood, but never done it in a race. My FIL lives in Nashville…maybe I should look into this one!
Then the weekend after THAT is BLEND! So you’ll deserve the fun we’re going to have.
P.S. I just signed up for a 1/2 in March. Training starts today.
I love your taste in music!
I tried to go see Ben Folds this summer but it didn’t work out :(
You are brave to train for a marathon during winter! It’s so windy today in Madison that you might blow into the lake!!
Good luck with Marathon training!! If you ever need to discuss training plans/complain about runner’s feet/share long run stories – I’m your girl. Happy Happy 2012 to you! <3
Ahh good luck! I wish I was motivated to train with you…alas, I am not at all. Love your recap collage!
HIMYM is the best!
Happy New Year my friend! Here’s to a fabulous 2012!!!
Oddly enough, I had thai food for the first time in 2011! And that’s what I had for lunch today :) Turns out, I really like it!
Fun recap post! I like the way you framed it. And hilarious about putting off your training – isn’t that just like us? “I’ll start tomorrow. On Monday. Next Monday.” ;) Run happy, friend!
