Home Sweet Pancakes

Greetings from la casa de Mama Everythingtarian y Papa Everythingtarian!

I decided to skedaddle home for a visit to take care of my lil’ sissy while mama works and papa is off golfing at a tournament. Obviously, this morning needed to start one way:

The Sweet Potato Apple Cider Oatmeal Pancake way.

With a few modifications:

  • Greek yogurt + applesauce (in place of the apple cider yogurt + sweet potato puree)
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (in place of white)
  • 1 diced apple + cinnamon maple syrup (in place of agave/apple/cider compote)

But just as delicious.

Archer Farms Cinnamon Maple Syrup is ridic.  Absolutely ridic.

So…what did the fam think? (Mind you, these pictures were taken freshly rolled out of bed :))

MAMA EVERYTHINGTARIAN: On a scale of 1 to 5 apples, gave them 5 apples.  Woowoo! I totally wooed her,
although she was still reluctant to try peanut butter on her pancakes (all in due time).

KENDRA (aka SISTER EVERYTHINGTARIAN #3): On a scale of 1 to 5 apples, gave them 4.5/5 apples!
This was perhaps the most important rating because, (a) she doesn’t like breakfast, (b) would prefer a BLT
on a bagel for breakfast if she does eat it, and (c) thinks my healthy food sounds gross.  Booyah girl!

THE HEALTHY EVERYTHINGTARIAN: I give it 5 apples, obv.

Eaten on our childhood uh-ooooooooo spaghetti’o plates…

And followed up with a nice cuppa joe + skim milk…one of Starbucks new instant Via packets, which I liked surprisingly better than their in-store coffee.

Artistic, no?

Alrighty kiddos, I am off to hang out with my sister – including a trip to the gym, some movies and shopping fun.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Your sistah and my dad must share tastebuds, he can immediately tell any time I ever make anything the least bit healthy. Perhaps I can trick him with these pancakes muahaha.

You and your family are too cute!! My mother would kill me if I posted a picture of her first thing in the morning :P Cinnamon maple syrup does sound awesome, but I feel as a Canadian, it is my duty to scoff at it. You have me torn!

I actually saw a sweet potato pancake mix at the store today! I was very excited and then very disappointed to see it had dairy and eggs in the mix itself. Bummer! I will have to try to make my own sometime :)

Cindy October 18, 2009 at 1:18 am

I’ve been putting pb on my pancakes since I was a teen. NO one and I mean NO ONE can handle it in my family or friends.

oh well. More for me!

they look YUM-E

Emily (The Experimentarian) October 18, 2009 at 7:17 am

Yay for pancakes and family! Nothing says “home” to me more than eating my dad’s homemade breakfasts. I think it would take A LOT of convincing to get my folks to switch it to apple or pumpkin or peanut butter though :)

Peanut Butter Bliss October 18, 2009 at 8:27 am

oh goodness can you PLEASE come cook breakfast for me? sometimes pb toast just doesn’t cut it.

Matt October 18, 2009 at 8:34 am

Awesome looking cakes!

Abby October 18, 2009 at 8:49 am

I think the fact that you made such a delicious breakfast makes up for the fact that you posted pictures of your family when they just rolled out of bed on your blog…

Make me a breakfast like that, and all would be forgiven :) Adopt me, now, please.

Meghan@traveleatlove October 18, 2009 at 11:12 am

Yum, those pancakes look awesome. Off to make some multi-grain pancakes of my own. With POM syrup!

Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) October 18, 2009 at 1:14 pm

Our little sisters sound like kindred spirits! Mine prefers Pepsi, brownies, and BLT’s over any sort of fruit/vegetable. I think I nearly killed her last night when I revealed that my mac and cheese contained pumpkin. heh.

Emily October 18, 2009 at 1:33 pm

those pancakes are making me hungry, even though I just ate breakfast! love the candid early morning photo sesh. keeping it real, fo sho :)

hope you are having a fun weekend with the fam!!
