All you male readers…consider yourself warned.
Growing up in a household with three sisters, estrogen was the quiet “5th sister.” Most of the time, you never heard much from her. When you did however, you usually ended up with one sister in tears, another grounded, one with missing clumps of hair and the last sister sitting so innocently watching it all. Mama Everythingtarian can vouch for this.
In other words, I know the power of estrogen.
Luckily, I had no fears of any hormonal girl fights occuring last night on my important date with these lovely ladies…
What was involved? FROYO, of course!
Red Mango recently opened up in Madison, and after tasting its deliciousness the first time, I knew it was only a matter of time before I would be back. AND, it only took me about 10 minutes to decide what to get, which ended up being an original tart froyo with Golden Graham cereal, strawberries + dark chocolate chips!
Twas’ glorious, especially for gal whose estrogen levels are a bit out of control these days. If ya know what I mean… ;)
When I got home, I found this AMAZING stash of goods from the lovely people over at NuNaturals…
Stevia (from the Mexican stevia plant) is a fabulous, calorie-free and natural sweetener. It is about 300x as sweet as sugar, so a little goes a looonnnggg way. And by the looks of my stash, I may be eating this a looonnngggg time :).
In addition, I also received a stack of recipes featuring stevia, which I am excited to dig into. Thank you so much Ron + everyone at NuNaturals!
This morning, with stevia on the brain, I concocted a glorious yoatgurt mess. First, I cooked up 1/2 cup oats with 1 cup water + 1 egg whisked in. Once those were creamy, I added in about 10 drops of the NuNaturals vanilla stevia drops and LOTS of cinnamon. I topped that with an Oikos plain Greek yog, 1 smashed naner and a dollop of PB.
Yoatgurt is totally my new jam. So are vanilla Stevia drops…these were delicious!
Late morning, I tried to curb my hormonal cravings with an apple.
Yeah, that didn’t cut it.
However, this glorious blackberry lemon scone certainly did.
For me, skyrocketing estrogen levels = sweets.
I tried to incorporate some veggies…
…but let’s be real, what I really wanted was chocolate. I am pretty sure about 12 of these almond Hershey kisses were consumed throughout the afternoon.
Even though I wasn’t *really* hungry, I ate the rest of my planned lunch late afternoon. It included a Kashi bar from my fab secret bloggy valentine gift and some wrappage (spin artichoke dip + spinach)…
I really just wanted the chocolate in the granola bar :).
After work, I skedaddled home, picked up Brett and kicked off our Olympic figure skating viewing party!
First, it was imperative we squeeze in a workout. I mean, its the least we can do to show OUR Olympic talent. We completed level 3 of Jillian Michael’s 30-Day Shred and then followed that up with a 25 minute yoga podcast. It felt SO GOOD to sweat. When we were done working it out, dinner was ready!
What did you all vote on earlier today? At 5pm, it was a 13-9 vote in favor of BRETT’S ASIAN ZANG SOUP!
What is all in this glorious soup you ask? Canned low-sodium chicken noodle soup, lime juice, crushed red pepper, mushrooms, peppers, red onion, carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, cilantro and crunchy noodles!
So. Dang. Good.
Seriously, the lime juice + crushed red pepper combo give this dish the perfect amount of zing (or zang) and spice. We served it with some glorious white French bread and lots of water (I am on my 4th glass).
Okay, this post is getting way too long and men’s figure skating is heating up.
In other words, I gotta run. *crossing my fingers for a Johnny Weir or Evan Lysacek win*
If not, you know these hormones are going to kick into overdrive. If I am missing clumps of hair tomorrow, you’ll know why.
