Let It Out

I feel like its been forever since I posted but in reality, it’s only been a day and a half. That’s because when you very least expect it, life has a tendency to cram a whole lot of stuff into a mere 36 hours. In other words, grab some Greek yogurt, nut butter and Ezekiel bread kids and settle in for a monstrous post, because it is time to let it all out…

::deep breath and exhale::

And here we go…first off, AMAZING responses on your top 5 pantry staples! I didn’t have the time to tally up all the answers like I had planned, but it looks like these five foodie items take the top spots:

  1. Oats
  2. Nut butter
  3. Greek yogurt
  4. Beans/hummus
  5. Some type of milk (cow’s, almond, soy…)

Fruits and veggies are obvs popular, but I am going to go with Abby on this one – produce doesn’t count! Mostly because that’s a given, right?

Anyways, May IS our month, and I am not letting myself forget that. In fact, it has become my new morning mantra.  These past two mornings, imagine me enjoying a delicious bowl of overnight oats and coffee while sitting at my cafe table chanting, “May IS my month…May IS my month…May IS my month…”

1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup organic skim milk
1/2 cup TJ’s vanilla Greek yog
1/2 smashed banana
cinnamon

~ soaked overnight ~

1/2 cup frozen cherries
sprinkle of ground flax
1 T almond butter

I fully believe in the power of positive affirmations.

I also fully believe in the glory that is overnight oats…

Luscious. I swear, if you use my overnight oats proportions, you will NOT be disappointed.

With Mama Everythingtarian’s help, I’ve gotten an attitude adjustment as well as a much-needed soul adjustment and in turn, these past couple days have been much more lovely.  Health isn’t just diet and exercise people – it’s a mentality.

In between snacking on dried apricots and eating more yog messes, I’ve been gettin’ work done at work (pardon my word redundancy), researching freelance writing opportunities and finding Mama E. the best gosh dang Mother’s Day card ever.

And yes, I’ve successfully made each one of those things happen.

Apparently, I have also been obsessed with taking pictures of individual spoonfuls of my food…

I’ve also received several exciting e-mails about fun projects in the works as well as an e-mail confirming I have indeed been chosen as a Contributing Editor for Foodbuzz’s new Healthbuzz section!!!

This means I will be contributing posts of mine to be featured on Healthbuzz – a new page on Foodbuzz which is an easy, go-to guide to help everyone lead a healthier life! I am so honored and excited to be chosen and am determined to step my writing + blogging game up for this fun opportunity.

In celebration of this new venture, I loaded up on a junk salad for lunch yesterday…

2 handfuls baby spinach
1 cup sauteed asparagus
cherry tomatoes
carrots
sprinkle of goat cheese
1/4 cup guacamole

FYI: goat cheese + guac do NOT make the tastiest combo.

After work, I celebrated my co-worker Lisa, who just got engaged with perhaps the most GORGEOUS sapphire ring I have ever seen in my life.  I’m not even a jewelry person, but I secretly wanted to try it on and pretend it got stuck so I couldn’t ever take it off.

Anyways, there were carrot cake cupcakes at the happy hour engagement party and so naturally I had to taste test them to make sure they were safe for everyone at the party to eat…

I approved. And also approved two brownies on the table.

In the spirit of letting it all out, I admit I canceled a planned morning workout with my friend Steph.  On Wednesday, I ran four miles with Brett at 7am then yesterday, Steph and I headed to a 6am yoga class.  I mean, it’s Friday – there’s no motivation to get up at 5:30am.

I also had a 9am allergy appointment, which I am mentioning because I figured out things I didn’t even know about myself before!

Pre-appointment, I fueled with two pieces of AB+J toast

As I’ve mentioned before, I suffer from migraines + headaches that are NO FUN at all, and sometimes they are sinus-related.  Sometimes I also have this weird itchy/tickly feeling in my throat which is accompanied by an incessant cough, so my doctor thought I should go in for some tests.

The results? I am not allergic to anything!

However, I do have two issues which are most likely contributing to my migraines + whatnot:

  • a horribly deviated right septum. It could be causing headaches as well as sleep apnea (waking up in the middle of the night without realizing it). Sometimes no matter how much sleep I get, I am still tired. Fun fact: a deviated septum is in fact the excuse Ashley Tisdale gave for getting her nose job.
  • incredibly tense back + shoulders. Research estimates 90% of headaches originate in your upper back + neck, so this would definitely explain that.

No worries – I have no plans to pull an Ashley Tisdale (or Ashlee Simpson) anytime soon.

With the craziness that has been this past week, I let it out to my co-worker that I would be in late because of the appointment + the fact my life was a bit disorganized. She told me I could take the day off, and I happily obliged. When you let it out and stop bottling things up, it is amazing not only how much better you feel but how things can improve in an instant. Never underestimate the power of communication people.

Now, I am going to eat lunch, finish blogging, clean my apartment, pick up my migraine prescription, run some errands and pack for a weekend back home with family + friends in Minnesota (!!!).

If you do one thing this weekend, please just let it out.

You don’t even have to thank me later.

I also have seriously tense shoulders and back. It is bad. I end up with some form of tension headache everyday. It has not mattered if I get a massage, am relaxed, have lifted or not, gone to a chiroprator – nothing! We need to come up with some magical cure and patent that shiz.

Oh, heck yes for just letting it out. You do what you gotta do and keeping it in doesn’t do anybody any good (is that worthy of a TWSS? I think so). Totes craving ABJ toast right now- why are the classic foods just so good?

Good to know the causes of your issues though. I good massage is never a bad thing.

My husband has a deviated septum and struggles alot with sinus stuff. I’m sorry you’ve got it too!

Hi Hollyz!! I’m all about the junk salads, but ICK, I’m so sorry to hear about your migraines. If it’s tension that’s causing some of the stress, I’d totally recommend that you see a masseuse or if you come visit me in Hong Kong in June or July, I will personally take you to my acupuncturist. She is a Godsend.

Some random stuff that works for me too is NO caffeine and a pillow that fits the curvature of my neck when I sleep so the neck is supported. I’m just sorry I can’t be more helpful my dear. :) Feel better ok?!

Your overnight oats do look quite delectable! Nom Nom. Might need to use your portions to prepare a tasty Saturday AM bfast for me and the man. Yahhhh. I love unique rings- congrats to your gfriend. ahaha i totally imagined you chanting to your breakfast. i love you. yay for health buzz! same here! oh and i think im going to make your oats this week.. with some protein added in, but with all your same proportions. i am excited. DUDE i got my mom the BEST card the other week. i have been dying for sunday to arrive! you know, i would think goat cheese and guac would be good! i am surprised! this comment was random. that’s how i roll.

Love your blog lovely miss everythingtarian, and can’t wait to check out your stuff on FoodBuzz! If you’re looking for an AMAZING but intense massage, I really recommend Atwood Acupuncture’s deep tissue massage. Their rates are completely reasonable, and when I left after a 1 hour session I felt like I had an entirely new body. The massage felt kind of like work (not just laying back and relaxing) but it was seriously worth it. Plus, you could swing by our place after for tea! ;)

I love when everything kind of works itself out like that. It seems like anytime I’m getting fed up at work, someone throws me a bone right before I storm out. Seriously… I work it all up in my head about declaring that I quit and storming out dramatically, and then everyone become super nice to me and I feel loved again. It’s strange.

Apparently all the best women get migraines, because yours truly gets them too. Ugh. I haven’t taken any meds for them since college, so I usually end up taking 3 advil with a diet coke chaser. Awesome. Enjoy your 3 day weekend my friend!

Wow…after reading your post while finishing up my oats this morning, I realize we have a heck of a lot in common!

My Mom has also been suffering from severe headaches that she believes are sinus-related. The doctors are telling her to go to a neurologist–in AUGUST!

Gotta wonder about health care sometimes.

yes indeedy ya”all she did find me an awesome mothers day card. funny she-ite!!!!! ok hokkis its funny that you talk about a new attitude cuz the last couple days i been thinkin….scarey i know… but i have a challenge for you. For an entire month everything in your blog must have a positve substance. The already positive things shall be barneyfied and the negativethings shall be positivfefied. this will not only change you but others as well. It will be hard but i know you can bust this challenge off da wall. congrats on your writing awards
