Locavoracious

For the record, I have two friends named Emily and Steph.

They are cool.

Wanna know some reasons why they are cool?

For starters, upon walking into their eclectic + utterly adorable apartment, I was immediately offered a delicious libation in the form of red wine.

Yeah, I said libation. Whatcha gonna do about it?

The second reason why they are cool is because they are locavoracious foodies.

They will invite you over to their humble abode, make their cats flick their furry tails up your skirt (borderline feline harassment) and then serve you a delicious salad of fresh arugula, mixed greens, tomato, cucumber + a homemade balsamic dijon vinaigrette.

In case you didn’t catch my made up word, locavoracious = locavore + voracious = voracious locavore, ya heard? These two lovely ladies are exactly that. In fact, Steph has a blog about it. Check it out.

Dinner will also include a sourdough baguette from the local breadmaker topped with cheese.

Locally-made, organic aged white cheddar cheese, of course.

Foodies after my own heart.

For the main course, you will often find Steph slaving away behind the stove on even the most humid of Wisconsin evenings just to make you a big ol’ pot of delicious kale + bean stew.

Amazing, especially topped with grind-your-own pink Himalayan sea salt.

After dinner, their coolness will really shine through as they indulge in letting me show them pictures of the weird blue Appalachia people and watching YouTube videos of ma homegirl Bon Qui Qui as well as Anjelah Johnson’s nail salon parody. If you don’t know what I am talking about, please check out those links. Emily, Steph + I promise guaranteed enjoyment.

Then you will plan a fancy, appetizers-only dinner party with a Rainbow Brite theme.

Don’t ask.

You’ll just have to wait for the blog recap.

I wish I had girlfriends that I could drop in on for some kitty harassment and libations. Oh and kale and bean stew…that all sounds fantastic.

Mmmm cheeeeese. These ladies sound stellar. Wine upon arrival, kitties, kale and bean stew and youtube fests? Can we all hang out?

Umm let’s email tomorrow! I miss thee! xx

Cats always do the most pervy things. Not sure why but I guess if you want to own or be around cats it’s just something you need to get use to. Good thing they’re so small!

A fancy, appetizer only Rainbow Brite themed party sounds like the best kind of party ever thought up. It needs to happen asap.

That cat picture is great. Cats know what they like I guess!

They do seem ridiculously cool. I always think so highly of my friends that feed me delicious meals! ;)

Locavoracious?! Love. It. Everything looks delicious. Cool begets cool, so it only make sense that you’re friends are cool :)

And… this rainbow brite dinner party sounds fantastical. YES!

I had fish named Murky and Lurky when I was little. Rainbow Brite was the bombbbbb

Nelly@CrazySexyFit September 2, 2010 at 10:38 am

The whole shindig sounds pretty awesome, but it’s that picture of the cheese and bread that’s got me drooling. Hot damn.

I dressed up as Rainbow Brite for more Halloweens than I can count over the years. I friggin loved her (still do!). I cannnnooot wait for this RB inspired dinner partyyy. It’s going to be phenom, just phenom.

Megan @ The Oatmeal Diaries September 3, 2010 at 7:21 am

further proof we are destined to be friends: i am obsessed with bon qui qui and may or may not have dressed up as her for the sole purpose of instructing others to “have a coke.” also last night my roomies and i were doing our nails (that sounded so girly) and we watched the nail salon skit! hilarioussss

Alexa @ Sohdalex September 3, 2010 at 9:50 am

That stew looks great! I’m ready for the stew-experimenting that the cold weather will bring. Thinking on the bright side ;)

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) September 3, 2010 at 10:06 am

I think that sounds like the absolute most perfect meal. And friends. And feline. :D What a fun night!

Rachael September 3, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Kudos on bringing the word libation back – the key is to say it real down-home like with an emphasis on the “li” part – liiieeebation…strangely, I just used it twice in a post myself – waiting on a hurricane requires a certain amount of alcohol.
You’ve reminded me that I need more friends. Too much moving, not enough bonding, at least in my adopted hometown. Must seek woman circle (of the non-coven, witchlike variety) upon my return to NC in a few days!
Happy Labor Day to ya.

Locavoracious? Love it. Friends who give you food? Love them, too.

I’ll be sure to enter your giveaway. If you like coconut water, you should enter mine, too! (shameless plug, I know, but winning stuff is fun, right?)

Wine, a great salad, bread & cheese, kale & bean stew + spending the evening with good friends? What more can you ask for? You are one lucky girl! :)

Have a great weekend, Holly!

Jen September 3, 2010 at 9:46 pm
