Monday vs. Tuesday

Sometimes, life just takes over.

That is the reason why I refuse to apologize for not posting on some days.  I used to apologize for this when I first started blogging.  Looking back, I realize just how silly that is…I mean, does anybody really care if you miss a post? I think not. Because sometimes, you just gotta go on a living spree.

Soooo…lucky for you all, I have TWO full days of pics waiting to be seen.  In honor of such an occasion, I thought it only right to stage a Monday vs. Tuesday battle.  Which day is going to win this epic culinary battle? Let’s get to it…

BREAKFAST BATTLE: Monday

YOATGURT!

1/2 cup oats
1 egg (whisked in)
agave + cinnamon
1 6 0z. Oikos Strawberry Greek Yogurt
1/2 cup defrosted frozen strawberries

BREAKFAST BATTLE: Tuesday

A lil’ bowl I like to deem Peanut Butter Banana Carob Oats.

1/2 cup oats
1 cup water
1 egg (whisked in)
1 smashed naner
maple syrup + cinnamon
1 tbsp. carob chips
peanut buttah

Final Decision: MONDAY, by a long shot!  Janetha, I officially crown you a yoatgurt genius.  This mix is cool, creamy, warm and just plain satisfying.  Plus, for only about 400 calories, it lasted me for like 5 hours.  That is a miracle.

LUNCH BATTLE: Monday

We have a lovely spread here, including: Amy’s Black Bean Soup, an organic Braeburn apple + Mary’s Gone Crackers Curry Sticks & Twigs.

LUNCH BATTLE: Tuesday

An eerily similar combination, including: Amy’s Lentil Vegetable Soup, organic Braeburn apple + carrots/cauliflower.

Final Decision: DRAW!  These lunches were just far too similar to declare a winner.  I think I liked the Lentil Veg soup better, but the accompaniments on Monday (apple + Mary’s) were the better side dish.

SNACK BATTLE: Monday

One of Angie’s Famous Strawberry Cupcakes courtesy of Katie, which I whipped up for my girl Natalie’s birthday.  The frosting on these cupcakes is life changing.  And that is coming from someone who doesn’t even like frosting.  After the cupcake, I had some veggies…for, you know, balance :).

SNACK BATTLE: Tuesday

The best scone I have ever had in my entire life + 1 6 oz. Oikos Plain Greek yog.

Final Decision: As good as that cupcake was, this winner was obviously TUESDAY!!!  This mixed berry scone (from the cutest cafe in Madison ever) was seriously the best one I HAVE EVER HAD. I know I say that a lot, but I really mean it this time.  This combo was heaven.

WORKOUT BATTLE: Monday

I totally ‘twerked it on the treadmill yesterday.  It looked a lil’ something like this (@ 1.5% incline)…

5 min.: walk @ 3.0mph
15 minutes: 2 min. run @ 6.5 mph, 3 min. run @ 6.0 mph (repeat 3x)
5 min: walk @ 3.0 mph
15 minutes: 2 min. run @ 6.5 mph, 3 min. run @ 6.0 mph (repeat 3x)
5 min: walk @ 3.0mph

WORKOUT BATTLE: Tuesday

That would be 1 1/2 hours of meringue + salsa baby!

Final Decision: Gah, this one is hard.  Although my hips weren’t lying in salsa class, my heart rate wasn’t lying when it got into the 160s on Monday, so MONDAY it is!

DINNER BATTLE: Monday

For Natalie’s birthday, we headed to Frida’s, which is a fab Mexican restaurant.  Seriously, you put chips + salsa in front of me, and it is the fastest way to shut me up.  I probs ate 1 full basket of chips (no lie) + salsa and then followed up that delicious veggie fajitas, which I lovingly doused with lettuce, tomatoes, refried beans and a dollop o’ sour cream.

DINNER BATTLE: Tuesday

With one hour between my salsa class and Spanish class tonight, I stopped by Potbelly’s for a turkey sammie with swiss cheese, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles alongside a jumbo pickle.  I heart pickles.

Final Decision: MONDAY.  Chips + salsa always wins.  It’s just fact.

Drumroll please….

The final tally is 3:1:1, which means the win goes to MONDAY!  At least something good came out of the dreaded start to the work week :).

After reading Angharad’s latest post about how to conquer the winter blahs, I am realized I am totally in a cold weather funk. I am sick of the cold, want to be able to be outside without going numb, am always exhausted and just in a kind of meh state.  Instead of try to totally beat myself up for this, I am just going to kind of flow with it and realize that this shall all soon end.

Plus, I have Olympic figure skating to keep me happy :).  Did anyone see the pairs last night?  My heart BURSTED with happiness for the Chinese.  Too cute.

Tonight: GO FOR THE BIG G JOHNNY WEIR!!!

Do you like working out in the morning, afternoon or night? As hard as I have tried to be a morning exerciser, I am not.  Therefore, an afternoon or 5pm post-work sweat (although tough some days) is perfect for me.

Do you like pickles? LOVE.

Do you like the Winter Olympics? LOVE. Figure skating is my jam, especially since I did it myself for 12 years.

way to go Monday! the underdog comes out of nowhere with the upset.

p.s. what kind of crack do you put in your oats to make ’em look so ‘gasmic?
p.p.s. where can I get some?!
p.p.p.s. do you have any idea how much I love you?
p.p.p.p.s. a lot.

So, I must know–what did you think of the sticks & twigs? Normally I like anything twiggy (case in point: Kashi GoLean), so I am wondering if I would like them. I trust your taste buds:)
Totally a morning exerciser.
MAYJUH pickle lover–I had to give them up for Lent one year, in fact, to prevent myself from ODing.
I,too, am a big fan of the figure skating–I wish I could do more than scoot along on the ice.

You should do what works for you girl! I like your face-off today. too fun! My BFF loves lazy janes cafe. I need to go there for a scone! mmmm

I love pickles. I actually really like potbelly sandwiches (italian and chicken salad) and ask for lotsa extra pickles and a pickle on the side :D I like their hots but there’s too much oil in it and I tend to regret asking for it so leave it off most of the time.

I haven’t spent any time watching TV lately and have been missing the olympics. I have a major winter funk – so much so that winter sports make me cold just thinking about!

As does fro-yo. I’d love to meet with you all but am not sure I can b/c dh might not be home in time to take care of the kiddos…

haha love this post!! But the ONE thing about your oats…I can’t eat them without PB, so clearly while yoatgurt rocks, PB would have made it over the top ;)

And I want to try that Amy’s Black Bean Veg soup!

Morning exerciser here. My energy drops NO MATTER what I do by 3pm everyday. I’m sure if I tried really hard I could transition, but it would take a lot of hard work and time.

Love a good pickle paired with a deli sandwich.

Sadly, I have not been watching much of the Olympics. But I’ve seen some news coverage and I will say that what I’ve seen has looked pretty cool…

Even though Monday won the breakfast battle, your carob chips are calling my name! LOVE! I will say it over and over but Johnny was ROBBED. He skated so clean, I thought he should have been up higher. I felt so bad for Jeremy :(

This post was so fun! And original!!!!!! Looooooved it. I def gotta get on Janetha’s oatgurt train when i’m home–your combo looks off da hizzzzoook (yea, just said that) too!! MUST REMEMBER TO RE-CREATE THIS (okay, just gonna bookmark this post now!!!!) :)

Tuesday’s bowl of oats looks fab though too! And that mexican dinner. Oh my gahh, chips + salsa used to be a go-to dinner for me if i was home alone and my pop’s wasn’t around to direct me otherwise (he’d let me eat all the chips and salsa i wanted, but had to make sure his lil’ veg. daughter snuck some protein in too!!) hahaha

And i’ve found that working out after breakfast and right before lunch is da besttt. Esp when i do little strength exercises! Then i can just RE-FUEL right after i’m done with my 20 min sesh!!! IT’S FAB! Basically :)))))

LOVE U!!!

How on earth did I miss this yesterday – I love pickles! When eating out with people I always pay attention to who leaves pickles behind on their plate so in future dining situations I know if I can ask them for it. Dill pickles all the way.
