my favorite summer things, part ii

by Holly on July 7, 2011

in friends,happiness,life,meet-up,Wisconsin

…an unending list of reasons why you NEED to take time off work (the 4th of July holiday, weddings, visitors from out of town + weekend road trips, just to name a few)…

…the sweet, lilting smell of blooming flowers…

…that one pair of overworn flip flops which has molded perfectly to your feet…

…ice cream…

…ice cream trucks…

ice cream paint jobs

…leisurely picnics at the park with friends {ice cream optional}…

…new friends like Boots who you can bond over things like coffee, beer + peeing in concrete parking ramps in downtown Milwaukee with…

…old friends like Madeline who love Anthropologie, kombucha, people watching + making obnoxious faces to the camera as much as you do…

…aviator sunglasses…

…Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips in Frock Star

…the warm weather craving for cool, fresh farmer’s market vegetables…

…the first crunchy bite of an overloaded junk salad…

…finding the one patch of shade under a green, leafy tree…

…how the months of summer are so much shorter to write than winter (ummm, hello…total time saver! June is wayyy faster to write than December)…

…beer, brats and baseball {<- in that specific order}…

…spending quality bonding time with Princess Helga

…biking to work…

…more amazing outdoor concerts + dreaming that one day I become¬†Dan Auerbach‘s 2nd wife¬†so I can live a lifetime of being serenaded to by his eclectically soulful voice…

…driving with the windows down + no air conditioning…

…and spending a week with two friends, an 89-degree thermostat, seven pitchers of beer, five pounds of cheese, a one-bedroom apartment, three Wisconsin cities + a whole lotta fun.

Oh summer, how I really do love thee.

Amen girl! Summer is my favorite time of year.

chelsey @ clean eating chelsey July 7, 2011 at 7:46 pm

You made me appreciate summer so bad right now. In summer I love walking around barefoot and little sundresses.

Katie July 7, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Summer is the BEST! I love it!

I love it even more through your eyes! You rock!

Cait's Plate July 7, 2011 at 7:56 pm

Loved this post – you totally captured every aspect that rocks about summer! I couldn’t agree more with you :)

lora July 7, 2011 at 8:06 pm

okay so here is an idea that is CRAZY. What if I came up to see you and brought peter (or not) up to you or emily (up to you again) for a weekend? I have to request off Friday and Sat but a 3 day adventure with you would be my favorite thing of summer. I have a raft I can bring and sleep on if that helps.

mucho amor,

when madeline was in san diego for one day only last summer we did
Anthropologie, kombucha, people watching + making obnoxious faces to the camera (well scratch the last one) but the rest, yep!

I love that girl! So glad the 3 of you are living the life, in the 89 F and in a 1 BR apt. This is what memories are made of!

Julia H. (The Petite Spiel) July 7, 2011 at 9:31 pm

Amen to that!…especially driving with the windows down & no air conditioning.
I started out just doing that to save on gas, but now I just genuinely prefer having air from outside blowing in my face…feels so liberating! :)

Love, love, love baseball games in the summer. Nothing like it.

Also, who is this new Boots character? IS this the same guy who taught you to longboard while you were wearing a skirt?

dana @ my little celebration July 7, 2011 at 10:55 pm

picnik makes live so much more colorful, no?

Mama Pea July 7, 2011 at 11:15 pm

So Boots, huh? I like.

kathleen July 8, 2011 at 5:00 am

Looks like an awesome summer! By the way, I love princess helga. She’s a beauty.

Hillary July 8, 2011 at 6:31 am

Your baseball stadium is kind of awesome. And I thought Camden Yards was cool.

My Reef flip flops are like memory foam for my feet. They’re my best thing right now.

Jessica @ Stylish Stealthy and Healthy July 8, 2011 at 7:46 am

I need to be friends with those Sally Hanson nail strip thingamadoos. I keep hearing how awesome them are, and must investigate for myself. The things I do in the name of nail polish investigating…

Love this post! Very jealous of your concert :) Dan is also my favorite, so… I will share him with you.

Megan (Braise the Roof) July 8, 2011 at 1:37 pm

Ahhh, looks like you guys had so much fun! And baseball IS summer to me. Well, plus a hotdog (or two)+beer. Maybe we should hit up a Cubs game while you’re in town?

Kaleigh July 8, 2011 at 6:16 pm

Man, what a concert! Me so jealous!

Madeline @ Greens and Jeans July 8, 2011 at 7:51 pm

First off- best picture of me ever. Who knew I could be so pretty? And second- sorry to disappoint everyone, but Boots is very much taken.

Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun July 9, 2011 at 10:30 am

I dont want summer to end!!! And totally love that the length of the months’ names made your list. LOL

KaraHadley July 9, 2011 at 3:04 pm

I’m so jealous of your concerts and baseball games. They look marvelous.

Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles July 9, 2011 at 3:32 pm

YES!! Summer iced coffee + driving with the windows rolled down FTW!

Emily @ Relishments July 9, 2011 at 3:53 pm

1) The buffalo tempeh salad is amazing!

2) I am unable to express how jealous I am that you got to see Florence and the Machine.
