my favorite summer things, part iii

Oh haiiiiii summer…you thought I forgot about you, didn’t ya?

Well, I didn’t. Never could I ever.

There’s still more than one month of you left, and while I don’t appreciate the fact that you’ve decided to be stubbornly humid all the time (resulting in a reddish, almost Bozo-like afro atop my already large head), I can still appreciate Saturday morning trips to the farmer’s market, the three Bs (baseball, brat + beers, that is) and the knowledge that you summer, never last long enough up here in da nortwoods of Wiscahnsinnnn.

And food.

Let’s not forget that, because summer food is the best.

But then again, so are weekend trips to the oh so Windy City of Chicago…

…spending quality gal time with your BFFs Megan + Megan…

…peanut butter frozen yogurt with cookie dough, Heath bar pieces, chocolate chips + PB chips (a.k.a. the cure for PMS)…

…summertime shopping in the city…

…7-11 Double Gulps + slurpees because sometimes, the weather just calls for both…

…big, ginormous junk salads from Whole Foods…

…best friends like Megan, who you can spend all day with shopping, walking, eating, wedding dress shopping (her, not me), conducting very judgmental people watching + bus riding and after that, deciding the only thing to do is laze on the couch with said Double Gulp, slurpee + a bag of Cooler Ranch Doritos…

…summer sales (<- impossible to resist)

…finding Elizabeth + James suede ankle boots for $52.40 marked down from $398…

…sushi dates with blog friends {!!!}…

…seaweed salads, soft shell crab + spicy tuna sushi rolls, BYOB restaurants, prime seating by the window, glasses of pinot grigio + soy sauce…

…summer sunsets…

…spending an entire night with my homegirls Amy, Megan + Lo

…going out when I don’t mix wine, hard alcohol + beer in the same night (read: not last night)…

…meeting Mike, a Russian-born, Kangol hat-wearing, Zumba instructor who’s real name is actually Mikhail + playing flippy cup with his friends at a townie bar…

…dancing, laughing + singing…

…tater tots (I know they happened at some point during the night)…

…broken sunglasses, broken earrings + waking up with a new pair of sunglasses (Amy, Megan or Lo – any of you want to claim a pair of greenish-black sunnies?)…

…not losing my DSLR camera I stupidly brought out on the town with me…

… and hangover helpers, Gatorade + pretzels.

Summer, if I promise to never drink that much again, would you hang around for just a little bit longer? I’ll even ignore the fact my apartment is a stuffy 88 degrees and that my hair more closely resembles a has-been clown than actual curly ringlets and how my wallet is crying out to me exclaiming, “Please, stop spending my non-existent money!” and best of all – I’ll stop complaining about all of it.

Sooo…stay awhile longer?

Pretty please?

With a beer on top?

I think you and I live the same life in different states. Except you have cooler hair and new shades. I woke up Saturday with two allen wrenches in my purse. WTF?!

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga July 25, 2011 at 4:19 am

Wait did you lose your DSLR? Or you almost lost it? I am having a heart attack for you!

Gross vegan cheese …ugh! But the sushi sure looks great! As does all the awesome time w/ your friends!

Summer is the absolute best! I don’t need a change of seasons, only summer :) I’m with you on the frozen yogurt, ridiculously expensive (but delicious) salads from WFs, time with friends and just wearing flip flops and dresses in general!

Amy B @ Second City Randomness July 25, 2011 at 6:43 am

Seriously- who did we think we were mixing all the different kinds of alcohol like that?

Pretty sure I woke up swearing… :p

So glad I got to hang with you again! Guess it’s our turn to make another trip to Madison….

Lauren July 25, 2011 at 7:22 am

My day is just not complete unless I get a healthy dose of you! :) Adore you always my love. ;)

Jessica @ Stylish Stealthy and Healthy July 25, 2011 at 7:32 am

Why do we continue to mix things when we all know better? It’s like dating that boy you know will break your heart but you just. do it. anyways.

Looks like you girls had an amazing time :)

Sarah@The Flying ONION July 25, 2011 at 8:06 am

Brenna [fabuleuxdestin] July 25, 2011 at 8:59 am

Yum!!! Everything looks so healthy and refreshing :)

Megan (Braise the Roof) July 25, 2011 at 9:49 am

Ok, I’m just going to go ahead and say that I think those tots that I ordered around 1:30 am saved my life. Also, who put the short kid in the back of that photo over there? I think I was about to fall off my chair. So fun seeing you again! :)

“…peanut butter frozen yogurt with cookie dough, Heath bar pieces, chocolate chips + PB chips.”

Oh, be still my heart.

Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers July 25, 2011 at 2:31 pm

Those are some pretty awesome summer things! I totally agree with your list.

Cait @ Cait hates Cake July 25, 2011 at 2:40 pm

Ahh, the vegan pizza slices from Whole Foods are SO much better when they don’t put the cheese on it! Looks like you girls had a blast!

Jess July 25, 2011 at 4:33 pm

PB frozen yogurt is the BEST!! love what you topped it with.

summer=the best. end of story.

Linda July 26, 2011 at 12:13 am

Hahahahaha!! I love this post!!!

Summer in Japan means lots of festivals. I absolutely love it. It’s very humid here too though so the air is super thick and my normally straight hair is usually frizzy….but just on the sides. How weird is that?

I agree. Summer is pretty fantastic! Thank you for another good laugh. :)

Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles July 26, 2011 at 5:58 pm

Thanks so much for your sweet email! I hope you enjoyed my blog if you ended up stopping by! =)

And on that note, summer food is absolutely the best!!

Bee @ B*tchy Bee July 28, 2011 at 9:32 am

YES:
“…peanut butter frozen yogurt with cookie dough, Heath bar pieces, chocolate chips + PB chips (a.k.a. the cure for PMS)…”

That’s science. Fact. ;)
