My Friday Night

by Holly on April 15, 2011

in dinner,randomness

This picture says a lot.

It says I have no clean dishes, therefore have to rely on a mixing bowl + tablespoon to eat my dinner. Eating tomato bisque soup and two garlic toasts has never been so utilitarian.

It says that even though I have $82.59 in my checking account that needs to last me the rest of the month, I still purchased $21.31 worth of magazines, Essie nail polish (Turquoise & Caicos) and pure happiness at Walgreens after work.

I am my mother’s {overspending} daughter.

And after a quick notebook calculation, have only $61.28 to live off of for two weeks.

It says Wisconsin is a brisk 38 degrees and currently downpouring, so hot tea is necessary.

However, this picture is not saying how the governor of Wisconsin said goodnight to me on my way out of work. It was raining, and I was almost tempted to joke, “‘Ello Guvna! Is free shuttle service home for a constituent of yours in your job duties?” Then, I realized I don’t like him and would rather trample home in the pouring rain than sit in a car with him for five minutes.

His combover is even worse in person, FYI.

It is also not saying how half of my night will be spent cleaning my apartment. It is gross. Don’t be shocked however when I blog tomorrow and mention how I ended up watching four episodes of Friday Night Lights.

Hey, it happens.

Even if the picture doesn’t say so.

I would probably pay about $5 to hear you say “‘Ello guvnah” to him and carry on a conversation in Cockney dialect. So…that would make it $66.28 for the month, right?

I heart you. This sounds like a perfect Friday night to me. And don’t worry, the magazine purchases were so justified. They’re necessary weekend reading. Everyone knows that.

Using an actual Tbsp measure to eat your soup…love it. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Glad you and The Gov had a nice interchange…pretty cool you just bumped into him!

i beat you x2. i have $4.72 to last me the next two weeks…. good thing i have lots of frozen food.

and my friday night consisted of defrosting my freezer, cleaning my fridge, sinks, tub, and toilet…..

Erica April 15, 2011 at 8:43 pm

Love it. Sometimes eating out of mixing bowls with a measuring spoon makes dinner a little more fun ;)

Christy April 15, 2011 at 8:47 pm

Wait! The governor of Wisconsin actually said good night to you? So there is some human in him? I digress… but I enjoy knowing that his combover is worse than his personality. :)

Kelly April 15, 2011 at 8:48 pm

I love this.

I also am pretty impressed that somehow you ran into Mr Gov. and somehow didn’t “accidentally” trip him down the stairs. Or maybe that just makes me a bad person for thinking those things…

Happy Weekend!!

Next time Scotty tells you to have a good evening tell him my very classy East coast grandmother called him a bastard. Fact.

I too am broke but will be spending my money on pizza and beer this weekend. Saving for a rainy day is overrated!

Have a great weekend!!

Oh gosh, after all the bills are paid, the Husband always scares me with how much money we actually have left. That is reason #1 why I don’t mess with our finances.

Woah, that is like 4 dollars a day! I just had one of your famous sandwiches again on Thursday night… Oh my god. Seriously, if you ever want to open a little sandwich kiosk together and call it “Holly and Deane’s Sandwich Machine”, I would invest all of my savings on your ability to cook and then you could buy all of the magazines and nail polish you want :D

I love that you are using measuring spoons to eat with :) It may be time to clean some dishes… or go back to Walgreens and get some plastic spoons.

Seriously, look into Mint.com! It helps me with budgeting and has saved my ass many times… When you realize just how much money you are spending on coffee, you start to make your own :)

Have a good weekend, my Everythingtarian friend!!!!

Looks like a perfect Friday night to me!

However I just can’t bring myself to spend money on magazines! Even in the U.S…. but in Madrid, when I find an American mag it’s almost 9 Euro! That would be over $12!!! for one! Abso-freakin-louley – NOT!

Enjoy them extra for me! :)

Hahaha that photo made my day. My favorite part is the tablespoon. Not that I’ve used things like that before…

Bahaha hysterical! I walked home in a hailstorm this week 30 minutes from work. It was treacherous and I looked awful. As soon as I got to my front door the sun came out. Good greif.

Mallory April 16, 2011 at 10:23 am

blah, i’m sorry to hear about and can totes relate to the not-so-fabulous parts of your Friday – aka lack of dishes, lack of cash, and…seriously, WI it’s spring, get with it… but i’m entirely grateful that you mentioned your exchange + secret thoughts about senor walker and his comb over.
made.
my.
day.

and if it makes you feel any better, i came back with 3 bottles of OPI on my “quick trip to Shopko to grab some dryer sheets” run earlier this week. budgeting fail. manicure success.

Randomly found your blog, and thought I’d pay you a compliment. I was reading a few of your posts, and absolutely love your insights on food, health, exercise and life in general! :)

I cannot believe scott talked to you. If you would have really said “ello guvna” I would have actually died. And LOL to his combover!

Amy B @ Second City Randomness April 16, 2011 at 5:06 pm

he he he… that looks like a typical Friday night in my hood, too… or at least the procrastinating on the cleaning party, anyway…

Lauren April 17, 2011 at 9:27 am

I’m constantly amazed by how much joy I can get from a few magazines and a night to myself. pure bliss!

Frances April 19, 2011 at 6:07 pm

i’m a big fan of this sort of friday night. recently i’ve been overindulging in solo evenings, baking cookies and watching happy days reruns (or sex and the city episodes) until i’m too tired to scoop another ball of dough or watch another cheesy minute of bad tv.

go us.
