My Happy Place

in happiness

Let’s talk life.

There’s family. There’s friends. There’s careers. There’s money. There’s free time. There’s commitments. There’s exercising. There’s Glee. There’s blogging. There’s sleeping. There’s relaxing. There’s forgetting to brush your teeth. There’s creativity. There’s cleaning. There’s errands. There’s putting on your tights backwards. There’s dreams. There’s reality. There’s having a solo dance party in your apartment. And of course – there’s food.

To juggle all these things at once is a neverending balancing act and for those who do it with kids, well you just plain crazy.

We organize priorities. We organize time. We organize needs. We organize desires. We organize schedules. We organize outfits (is that just me?). We organize calendars. Most importantly, we organize things the best way we know how.

Are you exhaustingly stressed from reading this post yet? Because I am.

So, let’s forget about life.

Forget about your crabby day.

Forget that certain people are dating your boyfriend.

Forget about that chunk of spaghetti squash stuck in your hair (hypothetically speaking).

Forget about doing the dishes.

Take a minute.

Put down the cell phone.

Step away from the computer.

Deep from within the belly.

Then, feast your eyes on this…

Pumpkin Gingerbread Chocolate Oats.

The best bowl of oatmeal…perhaps ever.

It’s 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup organic skim milk, 1/4 cup pumpkin, 1 packet NuNaturals stevia, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, 1 T sunflower seed butter, 2 squares of Theo Gingerbread Spice Milk Chocolate, 1 part love.

This bowl of dinner oatmeal, my friends, is currently my happy place.

What’s yours?

Don’t forget to donate and help Brandi + I raise money for Jovenes en Camino, an orphanage in Honduras for abused, homeless and orphaned children. Tis’ the season!

Also, you have until Thursday to enter my giveaway for a Flip UltraHD video cam!

You have children?!

I’ll totally take T. Swift out for you. I’ve heard a little to much of her in this house.

Mama Pea December 1, 2010 at 11:29 pm

*too* much.

Carrie (Moves 'N Munchies) December 2, 2010 at 12:28 am

You organize your outfits….WOW! I am seriously needing to get myself into a harem to have someone to do this for me…

and I guess I have to have oatmeal for dinner tonight, but no chocolate like that over here in Germany….HMMMM???

Lauren December 2, 2010 at 5:43 am

I know what I will be having for dinner tonight!!!! And then, I too, shall enjoy some of your happy place. Move over girl. ;)

Matt December 2, 2010 at 5:48 am

SO glad you mentioned Glee ;)

Erica December 2, 2010 at 5:48 am

:) Good food slows you down in the best way. My bowls of happiness usually involve soup/stew or chili and a big hunk of bread

Amber December 2, 2010 at 5:59 am

right now my happy place is my cup of organic vanilla coffee with a splash of gingerbread creamer. Heaven.

Thanks for this post – I’ve been “not” in my happy place for the past week or so… and need to get back there STAT! :) My happy place? The time I cherish so much.. right now – in the morning eating breakfast before anyone else is up to talk to me. I <3 my "me time".

Sometimes life gives me a panic attack. Like when I have to pay all of my bills on the same day (holy balls).

Gabriela @ Fro-Yo Lover December 2, 2010 at 6:51 am

I kinda love this post.
And, even though I like T. Swift…
I totally think Jake G. belongs to you.

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine December 2, 2010 at 7:16 am

It’s been far too long since I’ve had oats for dinner. And I’ve never added straight-up dark chocolate, so clearly that needs to happen as well.

Suzette December 2, 2010 at 7:57 am

Wow! That initial list did make me exhausted. Then I was quickly starving thanks to that delicious bowl of oats! Yum!

Evan Thomas December 2, 2010 at 8:39 am

My happy place was lying in bed at 8am reading tweets and emails from my phone and watching the Today Show from under the covers. I want to go back; I’m not ready for the day to start.

brandi December 2, 2010 at 8:50 am

alright. I need to find that gingerbread chocolate.

Kacy December 2, 2010 at 9:48 am

Those chunks of chocolate look insane. I want that bowl.

My happy place… my bed. Cold, hard truth.

And that girl is nowhere near woman enough to handle our man. I am so upset that he was even tempted by her wiles. Sad.

emily (a nutritionist eats) December 2, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Oatmeal would never appeal to me for dinner, but this?! I’m tempted. Although I did just have your custard oats this morning so it might be oat overload….

Maren December 2, 2010 at 2:25 pm

I really did take that deep breath in and out. I needed it. So thank you :)

Kate (What Kate is Cooking) December 2, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Ahhhh that chocolate! I need it!

Damaris @Kitchen Corners December 2, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Glee. Yes! I kindda hated Rachel in this week’s episode and when is Kurt coming back. I too feel like I have a lot to juggle specially now that I’m starting to watch Modern Family. Pass me some oatmeal please.

Megan (Braise the Roof) December 2, 2010 at 4:28 pm

Oh boy, I think you found a way to make dessert acceptable for every meal. Any excuse to include chocolate works in my book. :)

Erica D December 2, 2010 at 6:39 pm

Ooh. That might just turn into my bfast tomorrow.

Andrea@WellnessNotes December 2, 2010 at 8:14 pm

I like your happy place! Looks & sounds delicious and very happy! :) I love oatmeal for dinner, especially since I hardly ever have it for dinner anymore… I think it’s a sign of being old…

Teri [a foodie stays fit] December 2, 2010 at 9:14 pm

I LOVE your blog! Your posts are never boring and I love reading your creative posts!

My happy place is the 114th chocolate crinkle cookie I’m eating at the moment. OK, it’s probably only my 6th. Maybe 7th. Maybe 8th. Not kidding. I lost track. :)

elise December 3, 2010 at 3:53 pm

T. Sweezy is no match for your fine self. I wouldnt worry. This too shall pass. Make sure you remember this recipe for when you visit me. We will feast on it for sure.

Ok, so I watched last night’s ep of top chef (the new all star one) and realized that you are the white version of carla. im sorry if youve heard that a million and one times, im just slow. but the good news is that i adore carla almost as much as i adore you!
