Never Too Old

by Holly on December 21, 2009

in breakfast,dinner,eating out,silliness

The day marking the 25th year of my birth started out with a lil’ bit of this…

1/3 cup oats
1/3 cup organic skim milk + 1/3 cup water
pinch of salt
1 tbsp. shredded cranberry chipotle cheddar cheese
2 eggs
sprinkle of more cheese + salt

That would also be a morning cup of coffee with the new maker. I am in love.

I wish I could say I felt infinitely more intelligent and wiser upon waking this morning, but alas, I felt like my normal self (a.k.a. the maturity level of an 8th grader). Seeming as I had mondo blog reading to do, I did it at work.  Yep, I figured if out of any day I could rationalize getting paid while not actually earning my paycheck, it would be my birthday.

Lunch was a huge 2nd floor potluck, which went unphotographed, because I did not want to field questions should the 50+ people in the room catch me mid-shot.

However, dessert (well, more dessert) was chocolate cupcakes my lovely co-worker Natalie baked in honor of my first quarter century on Earth…

I had two – one with pink frosting and one with teal.

Mid-afternoon, I took a 10-minute nap which I am blaming on the obscene amount of sugar eaten at lunch and post-lunch. Major. Sugar. Coma.

When I arrived home, I found THREE packages with my name on it.

package #1

From the beautiful Gliding Calm, who sent me some lovely chocolates in a figure skating-covered box (awesome)…

package #2

Heather (formerly known as Be Well and Take Care) also burned me the Glee CDs, which means I have three copies of Volume #1 and two copies of Volume #2.  Have no fear – all extra copies will find lovely + appreciative homes :)…

package #3

And the lovely April sent me some baked goods – including banana bread, M&M oatmeal date cookies + a dark chocolate brownie mix…

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again: I am a lucky, lucky gal. Thank you ladies!

Then it was time.

Time for what, you ask?

Time for CHUCK E. CHEESE!!!!

Where every kid one is a winner, because nowadays kids don’t know how to lose. And I hate to lose.  So, it’s all good.

Because you are never too old, you know we were all up in that gaming action.

And let’s be real, you are never too old for pizza + pop.

And well, you are never too old to hang out with friends either.

Grabbing your balls and going for the win?  Never. Too. Old.

One thing you are never too old or too young or too anything for: being hugged by creepy, fake animals you are afraid are going to feel you up at any moment.

But one thing you can be too YOUNG for: Better Than Sex Cake.

I guess being 25 years old does have its advantages ;).

Happy BIRTHDAY! Looks like you did the day up right with co-worker cupcakes, games, and chums! I particularly love the mid-jump action shot. It’s a real dance, dance revolution!

Madeline @ GreensAndJeans December 22, 2009 at 6:02 pm

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADY! Ski ball is definitely the best.

Jenny December 22, 2009 at 6:17 pm

girl you are not gonna believe this — but I have never been to a Chuck E. Cheese. My life feels so deprived. If I ever have the urge though I know who to go to. You are the most beautiful 5 year old stuck in a 25 year old’s hot bod that I’ve ever known.

Hope all your birthday wishes came true — and then some :) You deserve all the happiness in the world, Holly! Love you!

Happy birthday again, Holly!

GLEE!!! I’m sure these have already been snatched up, but just in case… I haven’t been able to track down the eps after 6!

Chuck-E-Cheez is definitely the best party idea ever… why do adults forget this?! You’re awesome.

Allison R. December 22, 2009 at 8:25 pm

Happy Belated Birthday!!! Looks like you had an awesome time!

Katharina December 22, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Ooo was that really called Better Than Sex cake? :p Chuck E. Cheese’s is so much fun!! I went a couple years ago to celebrate a friend’s birthday as well. I realized that I overcomplicate things though lol. I just couldn’t get certain games – part of me thinks the machine was broken! That’s so sweet of those ladies to send you goodies. But how can people not shower you with goodies and love when you’re such a genuine, funny, talented, strong young woman? I’m glad you had tons of fun on your birthday!!

Alison December 22, 2009 at 8:44 pm

I just laughed my way through getting caught up on your last three posts, thanks for the stress relief. I totally needed it.

Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats December 24, 2009 at 1:50 pm

HAPPY BELATED!!! 25 is a good year indeeed. :D:D:D:D Merry Christmas!

Katie December 28, 2009 at 9:14 am

I want to know what that jumping game was?! That was not available at my Chuckies last time I was there.

Also, I have heard of and seen this cake, but never eaten it because there was a time in my life when I turned down all cake offered to me. How awful. But now, I want cake…so please send me a piece if you have any leftover. Thanks. ;-)
