One Hot Mess

by Holly on June 22, 2009

in breakfast,dinner,lunch

That includes me, my dinner and my hair. Wowza – it’s pretty darn der hot up herre in Minnesota, yah.

Okay, so today is a scorcher – it’s like 90 degrees+, and I think it’s making me a bit loopy, to say the least.  You’d think with a solid brekkie (thanks to Erin for reminding me what a fabulous word this is!) like this, that wouldn’t happen!

1/3 cup rolled oats + 1 tbsp. oat bran
water
1/2 banana
1/2 cup blueberries
3 True North Citrus Burst peanut clusters
heaping 1/2 tbsp. peanut buttah

Monday was Monday – I had some e-mails to answer, things to organize and projects to continue, and this lil’ bugger helped me get through it all.  I’ve never tried this flavor before, but it was good.  The actual bar was a bit chewy and gummy (imagine Stretch Armstrong then imagine a raw organic bar – same concept), but it did have like 14 grams of fiber!  Nuff’ said.

For lunch, I skipped my usual walk to save my co-workers from having to see me with a huge afro/bird’s nest/I stuck my finger in a light socket after venturing into the humidity.  Instead, I was a good girl and ate my lunch while putting in job applications.  Fun?  Not so much.  Productive?  Fo sho.

And for lunch?  A yummy PB+B sammie with a strawberry vanilla Tootsie Pop for dessert (heavenly!).

Snackytime was extra delicious – I took my favorite yogurt combo (lemon yogurt + fresh berries) and added a sprinkle of coconut on top.  Ummmm…lemon + strawberry + coconut = A WINNING TRIO!

Ugh – rush hour traffic was horrid again today, because they closed one of the major exits, shutting things down to two lanes.  If you learn one thing about me, know that traffic is the bane of my existence.  Nothing gets me more heated/angry/frustrated than traffic.  I know it’s totally dumb because I can’t control it, but it really irks this girl…

And deep breath…dinner was truly a hot mess of several items.  I threw together last night’s tofu/veg mixture (from the not-so-good lettuce wraps) along with a can of Asian mixed veggies (bean sprouts, water chestnuts, mushrooms, etc.) and the rest of my Thai peanut sauce.  The result?  Definitely hot, messy and uber-delish!

Now, I am chomping on a rando combo of a handful of my Archer Farms Organic Heartsmart cereal, a splash of vanilla oat milk, 1 small sliced banana and a hunk o’ love peanut butter.

Ohhh now it’s 6:40pm – what to do with the rest of the night?  I’m thinking some Bachelorette (who else is mad Ed voluntarily went home last week?!?!), a little bit of reading then a sunset walk before bedtime.  Sounds like a perfect night to moi.

What would your perfect night be like?  Ideally, mine would also end with ice cream, but unfortunately I don’t think that will happen this evening :).

Also…be prepared for more installments of This and That as well as Holly Investigates coming up this week!

Mmm the lemon/strawberry/coconut combo sounds amazing and so refreshing!

I think my perfect night would involve sushi, a walk on the promenade with my husband, a glass of white wine and then early to bed for some much needed sleep!

I love that phrase ‘a hot mess’. I use it all the time!

Actually, I am currently looking a hot mess.

Alison June 22, 2009 at 9:02 pm

OK I am totally wanting to try lemon, strawberries and coconut combo now! You are my coconut (re)inspiration. I hadn’t used it in ages and now am adding it to everything! ;) I think you of every time I get it out! heheheh!

Wow – I didn’t know it got so hot in Minnesota. It’s been really hot here in Georgia! It was 80 degrees at 11:00 pm! I love the pictures – your food looks delish – especially that pb&b sammie!

Holly June 23, 2009 at 8:07 am

Haha…it is just as hot today, so no worries – this girl will be another hot mess again today.

Holly June 23, 2009 at 8:07 am

perfect night? something involving a walk on the beach. I love when the weather just feels like “nothing’ – not hot, not cool, just perfect.

it’s been hot here too! my hair was a mess yesterday :)

BIG boo to traffic!! Nothing annoys me more than being stuck in traffic! Oh, let’s not talk about hair – currently mine is in a rat’s nest on top of my head.

My Perfect Night – Lounging in the jammies, watching TV, and maybe enjoying a drink or two :)

Katharina June 23, 2009 at 9:16 am

Where oh where did you find that flavor tootsie pop?!

Let’s see… my perfect night would involve sitting on a rooftop when the sun is just about to disappear, and sipping on some Stewart’s Key Lime soda. Or perhaps popping in some frozen grapes. Actually, I’ll just have both :) Then I’d have an adventure in a haunted house.

Holly June 23, 2009 at 9:40 am

oh man 80 degrees at 11pm – that was what it was here! don’t worry, this isn’t quite normal for MN :)

lowandbhold June 23, 2009 at 9:48 am

I just watched my first episode of the Bachelorette last night, and can I say I would not mind her leftovers?! The blondish guy she kicked off last night was super cute, I think.

Looks like there is super drama to come!!

That tootsie pop sounds amazing! I’ve never seen that flave.

tiponz June 23, 2009 at 10:07 am

perfect night for me involves being down the shore and walking to my favorite icecream shop finished off with some peppermint tea and a nice book :)

is that a new flavor tootsie pop?

tiponz June 23, 2009 at 10:07 am

oh and walking on the beach with my icecream haha

Ruth June 23, 2009 at 11:12 am

Wow! All this food is making me hungry! I love the pictures. I use to eat pb + b sandwiches all the time growing up. You inspired me to start them back up!

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) June 23, 2009 at 11:58 am

Look at all that glorious peanut butter…lovin it! :D

My perfect night involves taking a walk for icecream followed by lounging in my pjs’ with a great magazine. :D

Kailey June 23, 2009 at 12:18 pm

WHERE DID YOU GET THAT TOOTSIE POP!?!?!?

My perfect evening would involve good friends, good food, and me being in my PJ’s the entire time.

Holly June 23, 2009 at 3:09 pm

to all of you wondering where I got the Tootsie Pop – look for the special 4th of July bag of Tootsies. there is cherry, blue raspberry and strawberry vanilla (the best!).

Matt June 23, 2009 at 5:10 pm

I hate traffic too! It brings out the monster in me!

Jackie @ PhamFatale.com June 23, 2009 at 6:48 pm

no worries. everything peanut butter is good

Amy June 24, 2009 at 12:22 pm

I feel you on the heat wave…It’s been 100 here the past two days with the heat index. I was VERY upset that Ed voluntarily left the bachelorette..what was he thinking?? And she got rid of Robby too? And WES..I mean come on!

I’m excited for next week :) I miss watching this in the dorms with you! Have a good week and try to stay cool~

Holly June 24, 2009 at 1:05 pm

Amis – I’m glad someone understands my Bachelorette frustration. I totally think Ed is going to come back during the finale – did you see those previews for the rest of the season?

Ugh Wes – creeper. Tanner – creeper.

Me loves me some Michael (the break dancer) :)
