Pictures Don’t Lie

by Holly on April 16, 2010

in breakfast,dinner,lunch

Even though I like to think I express myself best through words, some things can only be expressed through the straight-shootin’ lens of a camera.

While I could probably go on and on about this frustrating, crazy and fun week, the picture says it all. That and the fact that I didn’t succeed in my Lent resolution to stop biting my nails or forgo drinking ever again, which I am pretty sure I told myself after Sunday’s hangover.

Just like Shakira’s hips, pictures don’t lie.

Whether it is PB+B toast on Ezekiel sprouted bread (and sprinkled with cinnamon)…

…or a hummus + avocado sandwich with raw carrots

…you can’t deny the power of the picture.

Because trust me, if I could, I would choose to completely forget some of the dumb silly things I’ve done all in the name of a good laugh.

There are not enough letters in the alphabet or words in the Modern English dictionary to begin to explain what is going on in the above picture.

And don’t worry mom, the cigarette was just for looks.

This however, is far more explainable…

Key Lime Larabar + Blueberry Organic Oikos Greek Yog. Eight easy, elucidating words.  I might not have even needed a picture of that.

If you didn’t notice the deeper truth behind these photos, I will lay it out for you: yours truly, le Healthy Everythingtarian, is in major no-tox mode. Yes, NO-TOX mode.

After too many drinks, sweets and missed workouts, I am taking my own advice and getting back down to clean eats, workouts + balance.  Balance being the key word, as clearly I enjoyed myself a brewsky while out with Mr. Lawyer last night.  Yes, for the record, we are still hanging out.

1 t minced garlic
1 T olive oil
1 small red onion
2 cups spinach
2 eggs
pinch of crushed red pepper
salt + pepper
1/4 diced avocado

And of course, my new discovery…KOMBUCHA!

However, despite the fact I guzzled down the bacteria + yeast on Wednesday, the picture of this bottle of Gingerberry kombucha is slightly deceiving…

While the kombucha at The Green Owl was light and fruity, this I have to say was a bit…vinegar-y? Although, with every sip, it does get a lil’ better. Perhaps it’s an acquired taste – much like beer or tea?

Dessert was 100% of the fruit variety…

Gena’s Banana Soft Serve with a 1/2 cup of frozen raspberries thrown in. The regular soft serve was a bit banana-y for me.  Adding the raspberries made it berry-frickin’-licious.

And yes, it was as tasty as the picture makes it look.

Off to spend the night in bed with the new Glee episode, Brick Lane, Secretary (starring my future sister-in-law) and my new Women’s Health magazine.  And that is a picture I fully intend to keep to myself, for I don’t think I need the free world to see that truth all over the World Wide Web.

Ahhh! Are you wearing a Claddaugh ring in that amazing first picture?? Not that the other, super attractive picture of you isn’t also amazing. I have had my ring for years and always seem to find other people who also have one. Awesome.

And I am definitely going to try your frozen razzies added to banana soft-serve, it looks delicious!

No worries. I think you’ve posted scarier pictures of yourself. Anything from a bad hair day and WOW, hehe.
Swapping your beer for a kombucha is a mighty fine choice. GTS’s is very very vinegary, but it’s crave-worthy in my opinion. Keep it on the clean and you can do it! You have a whole healthy support system at your fingertips without screaming Jillian

Hotty. Very impressed with the clean eats! I am still contenting myself with 75-80% health and clean eats but I cannot deny my love for all the chocolate and english treats in my pantry, nor the beer and wine and cheese in the fridge. haha.

We need to catch up soon! I want to know how training is going. I hurt my knee yesterday…fml.

hearts xxx

Yeah, this week was lame. I ate like shit and drank several brewskies. But it’s Friday and I’m spending my night with some tube also. Love it!

Jess M April 16, 2010 at 9:06 pm

I really like the Gingerberry kombucha. It is a bit vinegary, but I think that is one of the best flavors from that brand. (The grape flavor is good too!)

Erica April 16, 2010 at 9:34 pm

ha! I love that picture with the beard…I’m really curious to know what exactly WAS going on in that picture :) Hooray for avocado filled sammies and no-tox weekends.

Jess April 16, 2010 at 9:42 pm

“I love Holly. Tell her I love her, ” MamaJ tells me as we wait for our organic pizza to arrive at my doorstep.

It is true. I’m printing off that first picture and framing it. I LOVE YOU. WE LOVE YOU!!!

She also just told me that my feet look nasty and that I need to give heels a rest. And earlier, she almost made out with my friends Phil and Dallas. Almost.

Special K April 17, 2010 at 1:55 am

Oh, your spirit trumps everything and plac a smile on my face. Whatever stressors threaten to defeat you, you always seem to have energy for listening to your true needs. Phenemenal humor and insight, there. And I’ll have to check out Glee, or should I wait for the whole season?

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is April 17, 2010 at 7:11 am

LOL – what IS going on in that picture!!

Beth April 17, 2010 at 9:01 am

Gingerberry is my fave flavor of kombucha. I wasn’t wild about the sharpness at first, but now I’m a full fledged addict. That picture with the cig and the…whatever it is on your face…is one of the funniest I’ve seen in a long time. I literally laughed out loud. I love your sense of humor.

Kate April 17, 2010 at 9:02 am

i have been loving the avocado and humus combo lately too! and i am proud to admit that after a LONG week, my friday night consisted of going to bed at 9pm and reading the new Women’s Health too!

runnerforever April 17, 2010 at 10:01 am

Everyone seems to like a sprinkle of cinnamon on their banana/PB creations and I have never tried it, seems like it needs to go on the list of things to try ASAP!

Jenna April 17, 2010 at 10:35 am

Soft serve looks ahmazinggg

Susan April 17, 2010 at 1:18 pm

Ooohh, your berry softserve sounds good actually!! I haven’t been remotely interested in trying that stuff until now.

Kombucha tastes like vinegar?? Eep.

Mel April 17, 2010 at 1:29 pm

Those pictures are hilarious! It was great finally getting to meet you this week, hopefully we can get together soon!

BroccoliHut April 17, 2010 at 3:33 pm

Whoa. A Key Lime Lara + blueberry anything=GLORIOUS EATS.

Gracie @ Girl Meets Health April 17, 2010 at 4:41 pm

Hmmm….considering I’m going out tonight….I might just need to start a no-tox of my own tomorrow :/ And who am I kidding telling myself that I’m going to a yoga class at 9am? haha.

You’re soft-serve looks bangin’. I tried the banana soft-serve once and failed miserably (it didn’t get creamy at ALL…just chunks of banana-ice). Maybe adding berries to the mix would help smooth it out…?

J April 17, 2010 at 9:58 pm

Try the grape or guava kombucha…they are quite light and fruity!

Ildie April 18, 2010 at 10:44 am

I find your words intoxicating and your “real” photographs refreshing. Not to mention hilarious, original and interesting. I love your sense of humor. :)

Michal April 19, 2010 at 10:35 am
