Quite Frankly

Quite frankly, this is my 3rd attempt at writing this post.

The first one was a serious attempt at venting some frustrations which I later realized involved people who may read the blog.  While venting is healthy for the soul, I aim to avoid unneeded drama at all costs. I unleashed my crazy on this girl via GChat instead.

The second attempt was a humorous look at “A day in the life…” I got to timestamp 7:47am before I realized my creative juices were NOT feeling the format. Strike two.

The third attempt is the one you are currently reading. I make no promises because quite frankly, you cannot force writing to happen. It happens if it wants to happen. I’ve accepted the fact that this post dated May 5, 2010 (a.k.a Cinco de Drinko 2010) will most likely win no Pulitzer Prizes.

And quite frankly, I’m okay with that.

Because quite frankly, today was a pretty good day. It started bright and early with a 4-mile run with Brett at 7am. Yes, seven in the morning.  I rewarded myself with a slice of AB+J toast along with a chocolate cherry bomb smoothie

1 cup organic skim milk
1/2 banana
1 cup frozen cherries
splash of vanilla extract
1.5 T vanilla protein powder
1 T cocoa powder
1 cup baby spinach

The best part? I ate it WHILE taking a bath.  Quite frankly, it completely confounds me why I don’t bathe + eat at the same time more often.  It was completely enjoyable.

Quite frankly, lunch was even more enjoyable.  It took me almost a half an hour to munch my way through some carrots + cherry tomatoes, dried apricots + a veggie burger sandwich (Trader Joe’s Vegetable Masala veggie burger + 1/2 avocado between two slices of Ezekiel bread).

Quite frankly, I don’t hate on what you eat and in exchange, don’t hate on what I eat.

Oops! Apparently I forgot to erase part of my post attempt #1 venting sesh.  I’m okay with it because quite frankly – like I said – a lil’ venting is good for the soul.

Yog messes are also quite good for the soul, especially when they contain a homemade, fresh-from-the-farmer’s market strawberry scone…

Yog mess = one cup of 2% Greek yog, 1 T raspberry jelly + 1 crumbled strawberry scone.

Quite frankly, twas’ a slice of heaven.

Or what I hope heaven tastes like when I get there. If heaven tastes like strawberry shortcake, I will be okay with that too.

Quite frankly, I was infinitely excited to leave work at 5pm having already completed my workout for the day. Don’t you love the feeling of having NOTHING to do for a whole evening and the hours before you absolutely blossom with possibilities? Okay, okay…maybe it’s just me.

Regardless, I started off hour #1 of freedom with a glorious junk salad

2 handfuls of spinach
1/2 cup cherry tomatoes
1/4 cup diced carrot
1 cup asparagus (sauteed in EVOO + garlic)
sprinkle of goat cheese
splash of balsamic vinegar

Then, I headed off to the local coffee shop – Clif Bar in tow –  to start a new freelance writing project. However, that got derailed quickly when I decided to vent some frustrations to a friend which quite frankly made me more angry and is when I ranted and raved to Kailey who made me feel less neurotic + crazy before I decided should blog it out but then got a migraine and changed post ideas before leaving the coffee shop to grab a margarita per Kailey’s advice and came home where I am now blogging this post quite frankly with my migraine still intact.

I swear the coffee was decaf.

My “night of possibilities” was quite frankly spent making virtually zero progress on freelance work, increasing my chance for deafness by listening to my headphones too loudly, writing two hours worth of blog post material I erased and drinking tequila by my lonesome.

In the words of my man Billy Joel, “You may be right / I may be crazy / But it just might be a lunatic you’re looking for.”

Quite frankly, I really hope someone out there is looking for a lunatic like me.

Any takers?

“quite frankly m’dear, i dont give a damn…” love the flic, love the scone, love the honesty, ADOOOOORE you m’lovely e’erythangtarian!
may IS your month afterall… dont let no haters bring a sista down (said the freckle faced irish catholic green mountain VT girl)

Run Sarah May 5, 2010 at 11:01 pm

Glad you were able to chat out your frustrations…so much better than blogging about it! Writers block is the worst…but I hope the tequila & loud music helped at least somewhat.

Coco @ Opera Girl Cooks May 5, 2010 at 11:23 pm

Umm, that “junk salad” looks like anything but junk! I want some!

Madeline - Greens and Jeans May 6, 2010 at 12:13 am

In the words of the very wise Ben Folds, “I’m crazy but I get the job done.” Sorry you had a rough day girlfriend. I hope tomorrow is headache free and a little brighter!

Kailey (SnackFace) May 6, 2010 at 12:14 am

So, let me just vent for a second here about MY night. Cleared up my evening (late, late evening) to hang out with A-hole. Flaked out on me. I’m once again pissed. And yet, I’m not surprised anymore. It’s remarkable! I think I’m going to blog about this very, very soon. I don’t have time fo his shiz.

IT’S OUR MONTH. WE WILL DOMINATE. Love you sosososossoso much!!!!!! xoxoxox

Erica D May 6, 2010 at 12:19 am

You may be wrong for all I know but you may be right!! Yaaaay Billy Joel.

Mimi (Damn the Freshman 15) May 6, 2010 at 2:27 am

LOL! Sorry you have things to vent.

You may not believe me, but I’ve never eaten a Clif bar. What would you recommend as the best flavors?

Killian May 6, 2010 at 4:17 am

Dibs! You’re mine!

And quite frankly, I kind of wish you’d posted the venting sesh you described. I’m sure it would have provided entire minutes worth of giggles and subsequent giggles upon remembering what it was I just giggled at.

Quite frankly, your veggie burger sandwich reveals what a porno in the Food Network Office looks like.

Quite frankly, no shame in the lonesome margarita, shame is in leaving that margarita in your belly on it’s lonesome, let a couple of his friends, mojito and cosmo join him too next time. It get’s dark in there you know.

Oh, and quite frankly, I love your blog, no matter the format.

Erica May 6, 2010 at 4:25 am

I always think frustrating days are just there to make us appreciate the really awesome days! Love love morning workouts- there is nothing like having a free night. I actually think your lunch looks pretty awesome…so I am judging it, but in a good way ;) Heres to hoping today is totally jammin

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is May 6, 2010 at 5:37 am

Tomorrow (today!) is a new day! I’m sure many people want a lunatic like you. :)

Lauren May 6, 2010 at 6:03 am

Great job on the run! And rewarding yourself with PB and Jam toast is the perfect prize. :)

I just love those Masala Burgers. They are one of the tastiest veggie burgers I have had. Pair them with some TJ’s Mango Chutney, and its pure heaven!

Love the colors in that salad. It looks amazing.

Don’t fret about the writing. It will come. You can’t push these things, you’ll get into your groove soon love!

Toni May 6, 2010 at 6:16 am

Not sure who or what criticized you or your blog but i’ve been silently a fan for a few months and personally love your blog and how creative you are… plus you’ve really inspired me to try a lot of new foodie things! Keep on keepin on!

PS. The “reason” I haven’t commented much is because I always wondered if bloggers thought it creepy that people without blogs commented….just my thoughts, hopefully its not true!

Jenna May 6, 2010 at 6:16 am

Quite frankly holly…you are hilarious!!

Whitney @ Lettuce Love May 6, 2010 at 6:58 am

Venting is such a good thing! No problemo senorita. PS that is seriously one of my favorite Billy Joel lines. I heart him.

Maya May 6, 2010 at 7:03 am

Who the eff would hate on what you eat!?!?!?! I assume it wasn’t a blogger or blog reader….whoever it is, I want to meet them on the playground after school and give them a piece of my mind. I’m glad you got to vent somehow, I find that writing a blog post that vents that you don’t actually publish still helps. Have a great day Holly!

skinny latte May 6, 2010 at 7:12 am

I have got to try this cherry chocolate bomb smoothie, I’m seeing it everywhere! :D

Maggie @ Fit.Fun.Food May 6, 2010 at 7:17 am

Aw girl…sorry today was frustrating! This was still a really great post! I agree with some previous comments that your food is amazing! I love those Masala burgers!

brandi May 6, 2010 at 7:28 am

Random, but I Love Billy Joel! Why don’t we live closer, again? :)

Eh…some nights, you just need to vent, drink coffee (and tequila) and do nothing else. Better to get all of that non-stuff done in one night so you can get real work done the next!

Happy Thursday Holly!

Ilana May 6, 2010 at 7:28 am

Here’s hoping today’s better!

brandi May 6, 2010 at 7:29 am

and a 7 am run? That’s awesome!

If we want to run before work, we’d have to go by 6 am – at the LATEST. But we also have a 30 minute commute to work. That’s probably why we haven’t yet…but I want to. It’s just too hot after work.

Tamara May 6, 2010 at 8:08 am

I drink smoothies in the bath too! Sometimes after a workout I’m too hungry to wait another five minutes before digging in, but I’m too sweaty and icky to sit on my furniture, so I just head straight for the tub. It doesn’t sound that luxurious when I put it that way, but it is a practical solution.

Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) May 6, 2010 at 8:14 am

Kudos to the 7 am run…that is hardcore. :D

And eating breakfast while taking a bath sounds gloriously luxurious. :D

And–last but not least: quite frankly, I think your eats are always amazing—avocado on a veggie burger is so up my alley. :D

samantha May 6, 2010 at 9:54 am

i had greek yog for breakfast for the first time in MONTHS and dang! i forgot how filling it is.

a few things:

a) tell dem haterz to SUCK IT.
b) life is no fun, no fun at ALL, if you don’t have a bit of the crazy.
c) that junk salad looks scrumptious.
d) CHIN UP GIRL! you rule, everyone else mean drools.

Angharad May 6, 2010 at 10:11 am

I’ll take you on Sunday! You can vent a LOT in ten miles, believe me. And noone will be hating on our eating at Band Box afterwards. It’s gonna be goooood.

I love you, feel better. x

Marci May 6, 2010 at 10:43 am

Thanks for commenting on my blog earlier!
Did you count how many “quite frankly’s” you wrote in your post?
Your lunch and snack looked really good!

Brittany May 6, 2010 at 10:47 am

Hahaha quite frankly… I love it!
Keep on writing away!

Kacy May 6, 2010 at 10:52 am

Aww love, please feel free to vent to me anytime as well. I live on gchat. I hope it’s all looking better in the light of today though.

And ummm, whoever is hating on your eats is a lunatic for sure. You eat some damn delish food. Like that scone/yog mess. I want it NOW!

I hope the migraine has departed my friend. Enjoy your Thursday!

Therese May 6, 2010 at 11:17 am

“Quite frankly, I was infinitely excited to leave work at 5pm having already completed my workout for the day”

#1 reason I work out in the mornings. I LOVE having my evenings all to my lonesome.

Why are there so many people drinkin’ the haterade in blogland as of late??? Blows my mind. Girl you wat whatever the hell you want to eat. If you feel like venting some more hit me up! xoxo

janetha May 6, 2010 at 11:25 am

claire May 6, 2010 at 11:25 am

Mmm…I want a local scone…yum! I haven’t had a chance to try the masala burgers but should pick them up next time I head to TJ’s.

So many people will want you lady! Happy to hear you had a great gchat/vent session.

lo May 6, 2010 at 11:33 am

whos hatin on my holly? boo blog bitches. You are a goddess for enjoying a marg solo on Cinco de Mayo. If I could drink, I would have done the same thang ;)

love u girl. Dont let haters get to you. Vent anytime you need to me!

Erin May 6, 2010 at 11:55 am

That bathing/eating thing? *raises hand* It’s the gold standard of multitasking, in my opinion. Haters gonna hate, and that’s just life. You are Holly throught and through. What you put in your food trap is your business. Besides, I’m always on the hunt for fellow lunatics! :-D

Katie May 6, 2010 at 1:03 pm

That Billy Joel song is in my top 5 ever. I run to it almost daily. :-)…oh, and I hope heaven tastes like peanut butter and chocolate.

ALSO, one of the (hundreds of) reasons work out in the AM is that blissful feeling of having NOTHING to do after a long day of work. I am so with you. We need to catch up soon, I love you and miss you!

runnerforever May 6, 2010 at 1:48 pm

Quite frankly this post is very entertaining. I also bet that cliff bar was quite frankly delish!

Emily (A Nutritionist Eats) May 6, 2010 at 1:56 pm

I’ll take you! (I hope you don’t think it is creepy but I totally loved the image of you, in the bath, eating some bfast. :) )

Diana @ frontyardfoodie May 6, 2010 at 2:29 pm

hahaha, oh my goodness you’re like my dose of cheer each day. THANK YOU!

Anyway, your junk salad looks like some junk I might be needing…..

The Fit Collegiate May 6, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Seriously, I love your blog posts. Your writing style is always so engrossing/witty, and your food is positively droolworthy! I feel like we have the same food preferences…oatmeal/AB messes, Indian food, veggie burgers…

Kristie May 6, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Somehow – and I really don’t know how this is possible – I forgot about the TJ’s masala burgers. Thanks to you I am now craving (and soon buying) some! :)

BroccoliHut May 6, 2010 at 5:17 pm

Give yourself some credit Holly–this was a great post. You wrote what you felt.
AND you had amazing eats. Banana-cherry smoothie? Scone-tastic yogurt mess? Yes, please.

mallory May 6, 2010 at 8:04 pm

quite frankly, i loved so many parts of that post (and blog in general)… but when i read the billy joel quote i think you became my favorite person ever.

Lauren @ Health on the Run May 7, 2010 at 9:33 am

haha quite frankly, Holly — you always make me laugh! Not that I’m laughing at your frustration (I’m sorry the other day was a frustrating one and I hope it’s gotten better since then!!), but I just love the way you write. Period.

Low Fat Protein Bars May 17, 2010 at 1:05 pm
