Sharing is Caring

Ahhh…Monday! The first day of the new week – full of possibility and guaranteed cup after cup (after cup…) of coffee!

This morning, I finally channeled my orange-loving gals April + Anne by remembering to buy a can o’ pumpkin and start getting my veggies in early.  I present to you, Overnight Pumpkin Carrot Oats!

1/2 cup oats
1 cup organic skim milk
1/2 cup pumpkin
1 grated carrot
buttloads of cinnamon
2 tsp. pure maple syrup
small handful dried cherries + raisins
Justin’s Maple Almond Butter drizz

CIMG5130

Doesn’t this dreamy bowl of orange just scream fall?

CIMG5134

Twas’ glorious. The only thing that would have made it better was if I had subbed 1/2 the milk for yogurt.  Unfortunately, yours truly is out.  Insert sad emoticon face.

When I got home from work, this lucky gal found not one but TWO packages at her front door.  Have I ever mentioned how much I love packages (both giving and receiving)? TWSS. I was totally asking for that one.

#1 was from a giveaway held by my MN sista slash new Russian transplant Sarah!  This gal just moved to Russia last week.  She rules. Please check out her blog, if for nothing else than for the pelmeni.  Seriously worth it.

CIMG5138

Ummm…Sarah, you win the award for the most awesome card.  Ever.

#2 was from a blog I just discovered today, Missy Maintains!  As part of the Share Yourself Challenge on the fabulous blog The Special K Treatment, Krystle swapped names and had bloggers share something they loved with someone else.  Of course I had to sign-up, and today I received this loot of love from Missy!

CIMG5136

Thank you so much lady – I haven’t tried any of these!

As much as I wanted to sink my teeth into the treats, I knew I needed to make some real dindin to fuel myself properly. The marathon is less than 3 weeks – there is NO time to spare!

1 small zucchini
1/4 cup diced onion
handful spinach
dash of salt + garlic powder
1 crumbled Sunshine Breakfast Patty
2 eggs
black bean salsa
Ezekiel English muffin

CIMG5140

CIMG5141

So. Dang. Good.

Then, came the great debate: do I eat that Chocolate Cashew Raw Revolution Bar or dive into the Wild Huckleberry Cordials my co-worker, but more importantly my friend, Chris brought me back from Montana?

Cordials, it was.

CIMG5142

CIMG5145

The picture of class: a Band-Aid wrapped thumb and dribbling huckleberry juice.

Now, I am going to go use my rest day from working out and do the following:

Amongst other thangs…

In the spirit of sharing, let’s learn a bit more about each other!

(1) Place you are most dying to travel to? Argentina, hands down.  Latin love affair here I come!

(2) What grade was your worst school photograph?  (Details please!)  6th grade – frizzy mop, mondo awkwardness + denim button-up shirt.  Nuff’ said.

(3) Who is your dream dinner date? Probably George Clooney, Michelle Obama, Rafael Nadal or Elizabeth Gilbert (i.e. a handsome man or kick-ass woman!).

Evan Thomas September 14, 2009 at 6:44 pm

That breakfast is Fall in a bowl. Yum

1 Greece or Rome, my 2 most favorite places ever

2. 5th grade I was way heavy for my size, liked to wear bright orange, and our school photographer liked for us to pose hugging a tree

3. Taylor swift. She could probably use someone telling her how awesome she is after last night

Allison R. September 14, 2009 at 6:51 pm

1. Anywhere in S. America! I’m with you on the Latin looooove!
2. 3rd grade…tomboy hair cut. Nuff said, right?
3. Dave Matthews…cliche cliche I know…but I really think it would be an interesting dinner!

Lizzy September 14, 2009 at 6:54 pm

Emily (Healthy Fit Mama) September 14, 2009 at 7:06 pm

What a day for you – amazing bowl of oats and two foodie packages! :-)

1) I would love to travel to Fiji. I’ve never been anywhere exotic.

2) Worst school pic was definitely 5th grade. It was during my chubby stage. I had a perm that was half grown out. AND I was wearing one of those shirts that had a fake vest and tie on the front. Ouch.

3) My dream dinner date (other than my hubby) would be Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. I am a HUGE fan and I’ve been in love with him since I was 12!

Tay September 14, 2009 at 7:09 pm

Awww packages ALWAYS ALWAYS put a smile on my face :-D I joined that package exchange as well, and I’m mailing mine out tomorrow!!

1. Boston or Italy!!

2. LOL oh my 8th grade – I just went to get my haircut, and I said “sure, blow dry it curly”. Why did I say that?! I walked out of there with ear length head of curls closely resembling an afro. Cried. yes I did.

3. Jake Gyllenhaal please??

brandi September 14, 2009 at 7:21 pm

those overnight oats look awesome! Aw man, I think I forgot to email my address for the share challenge! Dang it.

(1) Place you are most dying to travel to? All of Europe – does that count as one?

(2) What grade was your worst school photograph? Probably 5th grade. I was growing out my bangs and had an awesome hot pink plastic barette holding them in place. Sweet.

(3) Who is your dream dinner date? Johnny Depp *swoon*

Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats September 14, 2009 at 7:21 pm

Egypt, 5th grade (horrifying), Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen!

Katie September 14, 2009 at 7:23 pm

that oats bowl is so beautiful – it’s like art.

1. Spain
2. 4th grade – my neck was so skinny at this point in my life I had a very pronounced adam’s apple and I had recently given myself a haircut that made me look like I had an accident with the lawn mower (that is what my 5th grade boyfriend later told me).
3. Can the person be dead? Audrey Hepburn if yes…if no: Brad Pitt.

Matt September 14, 2009 at 7:42 pm

1. Italy.

2. 5th grade. I had braces and glasses!

3. Kara Goucher :)

Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) September 14, 2009 at 7:51 pm

Tobasco + PB + Bars = awesome mail!

1) Place you are most dying to travel to? France. Italy. Greece. England. uhh, Europe?!

(2) What grade was your worst school photograph? (Details please!) Grade 2. Shoulder Pads. Not good!

(3) Who is your dream dinner date? Harry Potter. ;-)

Love the questions!

Erin September 14, 2009 at 8:13 pm

Oh, I LOVE the juice dribbling down your finger. Very cool picture.

Dying to go on a safari in Africa.

Um. 6th grade wasn’t too hot. A perm and teased bangs. And a giant space between my 2 front teeth.

Dinner with Obama. Angelina Jolie. Anyone hot with an Austrlian accent. Christian Bale.

Rosey Rebecca September 14, 2009 at 8:14 pm

I love packages too!! I get really excited to check my mail!

April September 14, 2009 at 8:24 pm

Umm can I please have your breakfast??? :D

Lynn @ The Actors Diet September 14, 2009 at 9:54 pm

holy cow. your breakfast.

i had a lot of bad pix, but 3rd grade was the worst. michael jackson perm, buck teeth, skinny arms inside a pink polka dot fluffy dress, leaning on a log.

i just watched a great “this american life” last night about school photos!

Whit September 14, 2009 at 10:15 pm

I’ve totes got some pumpkin waiting for my oats in the morning. Holla!

Travel: Italy. I’m reading eat, pray, love right now.
Bad photo: Really anything from 3rd grade to 11th. It’s that sad.
Date: I do love Edward Cullen, but I hear Rob Pattinson is a bit stinky, so I am gonna go for Chace Crawford aka Nate Archibald. A hot man. That is my requisite for a dinner date.

BroccoliHut September 14, 2009 at 10:16 pm

Um I think that pumpkin overnight oats bowl must be what they eat in heaven.
LOVE that flavor of Prana bar. Can’t wait to hear what you think!
That huckleberry juice looks disturbingly like blood. I’m assuming it was much tastier.

Whole Body Love September 14, 2009 at 10:21 pm

I’m sending my Share Yourself package out this week! My worst pic was third grade: pre-braces, rainbow headband, sweater adorned with ribbons and buttons.

Mia {runs and rests} September 14, 2009 at 11:36 pm

Roger Federer as a dinner date ain’t too shabby methinks. Even if he didn’t win the US Open. Boohoo. Deep breaths… :((

PS. I use a NikonD40 for my photos. Plus Photoshop to make them decent. ;) Your photos are great as well esp that dreamy bowl of orange goodness.

Annabel @ www.FeedMeImCranky.com September 15, 2009 at 2:41 am

Your meals always look soooo delicious!

Umm…Can my dinner date be someone of the non-living variety? If so, I choose Dostoevsky! I have an odd love for that Russian writer/philosopher! If not, then I’d want it to be either someone who could make me laugh, like Ellen, someone who is personable like Oprah, or someone hot, like Joaquin Phoenix. ;)

Lara (Thinspired) September 15, 2009 at 5:28 am

Pumpkin carrot oats…I don’t think it gets more “Fall” than that! Sounds delicious, and definitely unique :)

Worst school photo was definitely 6th grade for me, too….puberty, ugh.

Courtney F September 15, 2009 at 6:01 am

I love fall and pumpkin is one of the reasons.
Travel? Holland for the Tulip festival
Bad pic? 4th grade until 12th grade. I was an ugly ducklin.
Date? Girl crushin on Fergie or Meghan Fox. My husband is ok with this.

insideiamdancing September 15, 2009 at 7:37 am

I love packages! :D I posted the note you sent, but never posted the pacakge! I am such a slacker these days…rest assured they were MUCH apprecciated! I *heart* Lara bars :D Dinner looks so good…you can invite me for dinner anytime.

(1) Place you are most dying to travel to? Australia! Have you seen ‘Picnic At Hanging Rock’? Ever since I heard the story and saw the movie, I’ve been dying to go.

(2) What grade was your worst school photograph? Oh, yikes. None of them were fabulous. In my defense, we had to wear a shirt and tie for school, and the weather here meant a permanent Jew-fro on my head. And my school unifrom was maroon. Picture a birds nest on top of a white shirt with a maroon stripey tie. I did not love it.

(3) Who is your dream dinner date? Oooh…tough one. I’d say Alan Davies or Stephen Fry. British comedians- hilarious and so intelligent.

Low September 15, 2009 at 8:13 am

Mmmmm that bowl of oats looks yurmy! Happy day – packages rock!

1. Right now it’s pretty sad, but New York City. I’ve never been and with so many bloggers that live and love there it makes me feel so behind the times. I need to see what it’s all about. Others: LA, Australia, Greece
2. 5th Grade – short unstyled mop, rabbit teeth, awkward sad look in my eye. Haha my mom likes to show that picture to guys I’m dating to try to scare them off.
3. Natalie Portman – love her!

Uncle Tommie Timbertoes September 15, 2009 at 9:10 am

Dream dinner date: all the cartoon characters from any Tex Avery cartoon ever made.

dee (the apple hill adventurer) September 15, 2009 at 9:32 am

K September 15, 2009 at 9:45 am

What fabulous packages!! I agree about Sarah’s pelmeni – yum! That dinner is perfect! I love every component!!

(1) Place you are most dying to travel to? LONDON!!!

(2) What grade was your worst school photograph? 9th grade – short hair cut, sweater vest, awkward 14 year old, not my best look in life

(3) Who is your dream dinner date? Andy Samberg just because he’s hot and funny ;)

janetha September 15, 2009 at 10:43 am

Angharad (Eating for England) September 15, 2009 at 10:48 am

That is a ridiculous bowl of orange!! Your packages are amazing (TWSS) – that card is frickin awesome! I need to put my gift o’love together today too!
By the way, I’m glad you haven’t finished unpacking either….ugh.

ok ok…
1) croatia. turkey. southern italy.
2) umm i don’t understand U.S. grades but when I was 8 i had the frizziest crazed hair from tying it in tiny braids over night. congratulations angharad. I also had one front tooth missing which is always sexy.
3) can i pick you?!

Emily September 15, 2009 at 10:59 am

(1) Even though I’ve already been there, I’d love to go back to the UK and explore the English/Irish/Scotch countryside.

(2) I have to just pick one? Maybe 7th grade when I went through a fat phase…and had great hair…if it were 1977 instead of 1997.

(3) First of all, I love Elizabeth Gilbert too! She’s amazing. Gosh…I’m bad at these sorts of questions…If it’s someone non-living, Madeline L’Engle. Otherwise, I’ll be trying to decide forever…

Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) September 15, 2009 at 12:50 pm

(1) Place you are most dying to travel to? Turkey! I have a thing for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food :-)

(2) What grade was your worst school photograph? (Details please!) Oh god. 7th grade – snowflake turtleneck, overalls, self-cut bangs, glasses, braces, and chubby.

(3) Who is your dream dinner date? Barbara Kingsolver (author of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle) or President Obama!

We must be foodie twins – I also had overnight pumpkin oats this morning. Add ins: raisins, walnuts, chopped apple, maple syrup, and brown sugar. Autumn heaven!

Michal September 15, 2009 at 1:08 pm

those oats do look like fall in a bowl!

(1) Place you are most dying to travel to? England, I just love the culture, music and the accnets!

Reese Witherspoon, i love her and think she is so amazing!

Meredith (Pursuing Balance) September 15, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Your oats look great!
I would love to have dinner with Michelle Obama :)

Faith September 15, 2009 at 1:55 pm

I will definitely be making those oats! Wow, 2 packages in 1 day…you’re a lucky lady! I love the loot too. ;)

Erica September 15, 2009 at 2:27 pm

wow! What fun packages and those cordials sound sooooo good! Hmm place I most want to travel? I’d love to go back to Hawaii. Worst school picture= any year in middle school!

Special K September 15, 2009 at 3:10 pm

SO SO SO GLAD you love the packages! Me too, me too!

Now, if I can get a recipe out of you for my Special K Amazing Race Bars!

Katharina September 15, 2009 at 3:16 pm

Yo girl! Loooving the dried fruits in that perfect bowl of autumn-y oats :D

Those prizes loook the bomb.com.. and that cordial.. It think steals the show. No shame in oozing it’s yummy goodness everywhere lol.

Ahh your gonna rock that marathon girl.

p.s. collard greens are worth trying! At first I thought I was going to be like bleccch, but if you pair it with something slightly sweet, it’s yummy. I even liked it raw on it’s own. I love how you can just use them as wraps too. I’ve never had them cooked though – but I think I would still love them either way :D

Abby September 15, 2009 at 3:19 pm

First, I have never had pumpkin oats or a fun package like that, so I am sur-iously jealous! I may just try the pumpkin love soon!

As for bad pics, good lord. Let’s just say 6-8 grade were not kind to those with frizzy hair, a big nose and a seemingly permanant awkward phase.

Dinner? Steve Yzerman, Will Farrell, Bobby Flay…okay. I can’t pick.

Missy Maintains September 15, 2009 at 3:34 pm

So glad you liked the package! I’m excited that I discovered your blog too! Love it! Here it goes:

1) Africa so I can go on a safari!
2) 3rd grade! Huge thick curled out bangs…
3) Justin Timberlake!! So in love!

Susan September 15, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Ahh, so many goodies in one day!! That huckleberry chocolate looks awesome. I’m the only person I know who eats the fruit chocolates out of the mixed chocolate boxes.

1. The UK!! It’s so expensive though, I know it’s a long way off at this point.

2. 6th grade. One word – eyebrows. It was so horrific, I don’t think I had pictures taken again until grade 12!

3. Alton Brown, so long as he cooks!

Jenna September 15, 2009 at 6:51 pm

I am UBBER jealous of your pacakges!

What is this Smooth Operator PB??? Is it just plain pb??

Christina September 15, 2009 at 6:55 pm

(1) france and italia!! my heritage
(2) hmm well 2nd grade was hair half up half don with some frizzies sticking out and missing some teeth, overalls, and a huge smile….not attractive but it was sooo corny it was cute haha and my actual worst pic? 7th grade…not my prime. enough said haha.
(3) hmmm lance armstrong.

Katie September 15, 2009 at 7:03 pm

Lordy lord, look at all of those goodies! All of those bars look good… I’m particularly curious about the Prana bar.

I had dried cherries in my oats this morning, too… nice change for me.

Hmm. My worst school photo was pretty much every year of high school. At least they were all group pics!

There’s nowhere in the world that I don’t want to go.

I want to have dinner with Julia Child. Oh, well. My grandparents did once, so I’ll have to settle for that!

Hope you’re having a great night!

jessica September 16, 2009 at 12:20 pm

oh. my. gosh.
those cordials look AMAZING!!!
-muffy

Alison September 16, 2009 at 3:41 pm

OK, the picture of class is my favorite – I love it!

My worst CLASS picture has got be 6th grade.

It was all good until the guy told me to smile, and I did – but apparently it wasn’t a teeth showing smile. So he says “say YES” and I said “YES” and *click*.

OK, whatever.

Get the pic back and my mouth looked SO weird – you can see my tongue in my mouth saying “yes”. It kind of looked like I was smiling but really it just looked like I was saying yes.

The same guy – one year later. 7th grade. He said “say yes!” and yelled NO!

I smiled a lips sealed smile – and I hated that picture too. Why couldn’t he just say “smile so I can see your teeth?” that would have saved me two years of pics I hated.

And now whenever I smile for a picture I always show my teeth and don’t even have to say YES!

In fact, I’m smiling with my teeth showing as I click “submit comment” right now.
