The Goods

Good morning dudes and dudettes!

It looks as if the gorgeous weather the Midwest has gloriously been given these past couple days has faded.  In its place, gray overcast clouds and a slight chilliness in the air.  I guess Senor Invierno esta aqui, no? If you aren’t sure what that means, ask this girl.

Yesterday’s breakfast was epic.  The Top Chef in me would like to call it Truffled Butternut Squash Oatmeal.

1/3 cup oats
2/3 cup organic skim milk
pinch of salt
1/3 cup organic butternut squash puree
1 tsp. pure maple syrup
cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice + ginger
1 Pumpkin Spice Truffle + 1 Gingerbread Truffle

Look at that steam fogging up the lens…gorgeous!

Thanks again to Miss Emily for that stellar package of goodies, which included those AMAZING truffles.  The way they melted into the oatmeal…oh man, if I hadn’t been so busy scarfing it I would have taken a picture for you.

Yesterday, I also received these lovely goods which I won in a giveaway on Leianna’s blog…

You can bet your bottom dollar the Black Cherry will be mine today.  I have been eyeing that flavor for-ev-er…for-ev-er…for-ev-er…(name that movie).

Lastly, thank you so much for the AWESOME response to the Tera’s Whey giveaway – keep those entries rolling in!  You have until midnight on Thursday to enter for some organic, natural and locally-grown goodness.

Alrighty kiddos, normal posting shall resume tonight after going for some Afghan food + a super intellectual lecture.  Gosh, look how cultured I am ;).

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten in the past couple days? That truffled oatmeal is right up there for me!

Chocolate Covered Katie November 10, 2009 at 7:51 am

Hey Holly!
I’m just checking to see if you received my email from a few days ago. Please let me know; I’d really appreciate your help, girl :)

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is November 10, 2009 at 7:51 am

Ohmigosh, I always use the FORR-EVVV-ERRR line. It’s from the Sandlot! LOL I do it all the time.

That oatmeal looks unreal. Though, I am such a lover of chocolate that I may have preferred to eat the truffles alone. :) I’m not sure what the best thing I’ve eaten has been…

Morgan @ Life After Bagels November 10, 2009 at 7:52 am

Ummmm Holly when did you get so darn fancy with your truffled butternut squash oatmeal?!?! ;)

Paige (Running Around Normal) November 10, 2009 at 7:57 am

Wow – what a bowl of oats! Gourmet for sure ;)

Hmm the best thing I’ve eaten lately is probably the veggie pizza I had Sunday night.

Whit November 10, 2009 at 7:59 am

Truffles in oats? Now you’ve done it. :D

I did eat some coconut cake that was pretty epic the other day, but then I went running, so I kind of wished I hadn’t. It wasn’t pretty.

Katie November 10, 2009 at 8:00 am

Sandlot!! I love that movie.

The breakfast that I’m currently stuffing in my mouth is really delicious – one of the best this week. It’s an egg white/avocado sandwich with hot sauce. Happy Tuesday!

Mellissa November 10, 2009 at 8:17 am

All of the food I had in San Fran this past weekend was beyond amazing!

VeggieGirl November 10, 2009 at 8:18 am

Such a fun breakfast creation!

Best thing for me = sweet potato with cinnamon & coconut butter.

insideiamdancing November 10, 2009 at 8:22 am

Oh, that oatmeal sounds fab :D

Best thing I have eaten: the salad I had for lunch (roast vegetables, quorn cooked in BBQ sauce and hummus!)

Abby (Nibble, Nourish, Run) November 10, 2009 at 8:27 am

Mmm not so healthy but completely delicious – warm gingerbread on Sunday night! I was sad the weekend was ending…

Chelsea @ (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) November 10, 2009 at 8:35 am

Best thing I’ve eaten in the past few days? Craftsteak’s filet mignon, hands down.

The movie you were referencing was “The Sandlot,” no?

That oatmeal looks like a dessert breakfast. Oatstanding.

Matt November 10, 2009 at 8:39 am

I think the best thing I ate was fliet mignon on Saturday night. Damn that was good.

Kathleen November 10, 2009 at 8:51 am

I love the Sandlot, classic!

The best thing I’ve eaten recently was a yogurt mess with Fage, Kashi Go Lean, pomegranate arils and almond butter. Yum.

brandi November 10, 2009 at 10:47 am

truffles on oatmeal? Yum. You know how to start the day right :)

Susan November 10, 2009 at 11:01 am

Afghan food!? I hope your camera is invited!!

I bought mini rollos specifically for putting on oatmeal, but they’ve somehow been escaping the bowl and going directly into my mouth :P Best thing I’ve eaten these past few days was my yogurt/protein powder combo. I tried to recreate it with Amazing Grass last night. Um, not recommended.

Have fun tonight!!

Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) November 10, 2009 at 11:03 am

best thing i’ve had all week? white chocolate pumpkin cookies!!! i think i could eat 12 in one sitting.

love the truffles + oatmeal creation. everything is better with chocolate!

Katharina November 10, 2009 at 12:15 pm

Wow! My likes the looks of the truffled oatmeal :) I bet it was incredibly delicious. I love toppings on my oats. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a bowl of plain old oatmeal. Do I care to remember? Frankly dear.. I don’t give a damn ;)

Hmm.. well I just had a yummy piece of vegetarian “meatloaf” I made with the leftover stuff from my soymilk called okara.

Evan Thomas November 10, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Silk Nog is my new heavenly obsession.

Tay November 10, 2009 at 12:32 pm

Ooooh we made lentil dahl last night and it was BOMB! I’m bout to heat up my leftovers for lunch. So good!

Katie November 10, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Forever line from Sandlot one of the best. Oh I want to see that movie now I loves it! Um Vanilla Cupcakes definitely best thing I’ve eaten. I love sweets! Your breakfast is so gourmet.

Looks like the most delicious breakfast–love the tuffles!!!

Low November 10, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Ummm, effing genius to put the truffles in oatmeal. Love it!

Andrea@WellnessNotes November 10, 2009 at 4:54 pm

Since when it is legal to add truffles to oatmeal and call it breakfast??? Yes, you are right, I am jealous because my breakfasts can’t compare… Oh, and I hope you flossed after eating it… ;)

I have eaten good food in the last few days but unfortunately nothing that stands out at the moment…

Kailey (SnackFace) November 10, 2009 at 5:38 pm

Umm I just got an email expressing some frustrations. I love you even more now, which I didn’t know was possible.

Anyway, I’m sorry I didn’t enter the giveaway:( You know I can’t do the whey. DAMN because those products sound amazing.

I DIE over those oats. I thought the bottom of my oats in a jar were naughty, but oh no. I need truffles now.

The best thing I’ve eaten…pounds of hot chips and salsa on Saturday. That’s happiness.

Faith November 10, 2009 at 6:34 pm

Your Truffled Butternut Sqush Oatmeal sounds fabulous! Anytime I can squeeze chocolate into a healthy breakfast I’m a happy camper.

Jenny November 10, 2009 at 7:02 pm

Omg, truffles on top of oatmeal sounds delicious!

I’d have to say my overnight oats are ALWAYS a delight :)

Lauren November 10, 2009 at 7:56 pm

OH MY! That oatmeal is quite epic and fundamentally superior to all other oatmeal I have seen lately. I wish I could find some Pureed Squash but I;m not having much luck. It’s gotta be around here somewhere.

I just received my Zevia package today too! Can’t wait to try it.

Take care Holly.

maria November 10, 2009 at 9:02 pm

My veggie pizza last night was so good. I love the dough, but the veggies were just so amazing tasting after baking. :)

Meredith (Pursuing Balance) November 10, 2009 at 9:56 pm

BroccoliHut November 10, 2009 at 10:54 pm
