The Inner Circle

Readers, it’s time to meet the Everythingtarian inner circle.

First up, meet one of my best friends Ashley

…and one of my other besties, Megan

Aren’t they just gorgeous? Here is us altogether this weekend…

I know, I know.  You don’t have to say it: we are probably the most the most good looking group of girls you’ve ever seen. Stop with the compliments. You probably want to see more beautifulness from our weekend, but people, this is a food blog!

Back to the eats!

The 12-mile run on Saturday morning went gorgeously – the weather was perfect, and I maintained a solid 10:00/mile pace, thoroughly enjoying my run.  Post-sweat, I devoured this…

1 cup Plain Chobani Greek yogurt
1 crumbled Apple Pie Larabar
1 smashed banana
1 heaping spoonful (2 tbsp.) Cinnamon Raisin Swirl PB

Amazing. To those who say you need meat in order to get your protein: this baby contained about 25 grams of it. Booyah.

Mid-afternoon, my ladies made it to Madtown!  Since they had been car-bound for the past 4 hours, it was time to get walking and eating.  Enter a 1 mile walk for a late lunch to a Madison foodie staple.

Reason #3,469,078 I love my friends: they are fully supportive of beginning a meal with deep-fried cheese curds + beer.

Like yours truly, they also advocate balance.

For our meal, we all ordered the same thing: roasted veggie sandwich – grilled eggplant, portabella mushroom, wood-roasted red pepper and zucchini, with goat cheese and black olive tapenade on toasted country bread – and a side salad.

After shopping for several hours (and Ashley being the only one to buy something – a peanut-shaped eraser, no lie), we decided it was time for dinner dessert.

Apparently, Uno’s has this gigantic peanut butter cup topped with ice cream, but when we got there, they said they didn’t have it.  Not okay Server Brian!  Instead, we settled on this lovely.

Such a rough letdown ;).

Then we preceded to play with Photo Booth for far too long.

This morning, it was only appropriate to treat my lovelies to a high class Everythingtarian breakfast.  Based off of Polly’s recipe for Oaty Cakes, I concocted Maple Banana Oatmeal Pancakes.

With a spread of toppings: PB, Cinnamon Raisin Swirl PB, raisins, dark chocolate chips, almonds + walnuts, maple syrup and butter, plus strawberries on the side.  Only the best for my friends.

After brekkie + a 2-hour long walk along the lake, my ladies had to hit the road :(.  Love you girls – thanks soooo much for visiting!

However, yours truly has enough to do to keep her busy all day.

  • Laundry
  • Grocery shopping
  • Target
  • Buy wedding presents
  • Clean apartment
  • Apply for a part-time/weekend job
  • Organize, organize, organize!
  • Eat lunch
  • 5pm Pilates class

Three out of nine isn’t a bad start.

That would be an Ezekiel English muffin, Sunshine Breakfast patty, spinach + BBQ sauce alongside carrots drizzled with regular peanut butter.  It was all washed down with a cold, refreshing glass of skim milk.

Alrighty, now it’s off to complete the to-do list and add productivity to the inner circle.

When was the last time you ate dessert for dinner? Please be as descriptive as possible, so we can drool about eating dessert for dinner everyday.

Wow, that’s a lot of good eats, like Alton Brown would be jealous cuz you just stole his show.
I don’t remember the last time I did dessert for dinner, that’s not really my style. But every damn morning feels like dessert for breakfast. Peanut butter and greek yogurt are way too delicious to be healthy

Mel September 20, 2009 at 3:20 pm

Love the Old Fashioned, a friend of mine’s cousin is an owner there.

I can’t think of the last time I had dessert for dinner, but now you’ve put the idea in my head!

Kathleen September 20, 2009 at 3:22 pm

Oh my god, your eats are probably in the top 10 drool-worthy that I’ve seen :) Those pancakes? AMAZING LOOKING!
Last night I had a milkshake for dinner…I was drunk, so basically I forgot what it tasted like, but I’m sure it was amazing :)

Susan September 20, 2009 at 3:50 pm

The last time I had dessert for dinner was the day I did my triathlon. I went to a diner and ordered a giant piece of chocolate pie. It was heavenly, and I think I may do the triathlon again next year just so I can have chocolate pie for supper again ;)

Lizzy September 20, 2009 at 4:08 pm

your besties are awesome! glad you girlies had such a great weekend! :)

The grilled sammie looks to die for, not to mention the dessert that was had! YUMMMMO! hope your To Do List has dwindled down!!!

Brooke September 20, 2009 at 4:38 pm

Ummm my friends and I would go to SF for the tree lighting ceremony every year in Union Square. The Cheesecake Factory happens to be perfectly at the top of Macy’s overlooking Union Square and always happy to feed us their HUGE chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, coffee ice cream, vanilla ice cream, fudge, and toasted almonds with a cherry. And their cheesecake. (Dulce de leche cheesecake…omfg) YA SO DAZ HOW WE DO

Jenny September 20, 2009 at 6:09 pm

Looks like a fun group of gals to me!! And glad you enjoyed your weekend…I haven’t eaten dessert for dinner in a while, but I have a feeling if I did it would be more of a sweet bowl of oatmeal! haha

Low September 20, 2009 at 6:14 pm

I just polished off a pint of ice cream in one day. it was kind of my dinner.

Your friends truly are gorg! Glad you guys had so much fun. I would totally support deep fried cheese curds if I were in your inner circle!!

Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats September 20, 2009 at 6:17 pm

Never let fried cheese curd lovin’ friends go – your pictures are looking AWESOME!!!

Tay September 20, 2009 at 6:29 pm

Hold on – let me wipe the drool of my chin. K, thanks. Dang girl, all those eats look fab. But not as fab as the lovely pics at the start of the post. Now THOSE girls are smokin!

K September 20, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Friends that advocate taking lots of GORGY pictures of each other, consumption of deep fried cheese curds, and dessert for dinner are friends you need to keep fo’ life!

Matt September 20, 2009 at 7:41 pm

I don’t think I have ever had dessert instead of dinner. I have both every single night.

Alison September 20, 2009 at 7:56 pm

Ummm I had dessert for dinner just this past Tuesday. A massively busy day, a birthday party for a 3 year old and enough cake and ice cream to feed a small army = dessert for dinner. And it was fabulous.

And you girls really are gorgeous, I totally think you should submit that group pic to a modeling agency! Blogger turned model – I can see the headlines already! Who needs a book deal with a face like that?!

Katharina September 20, 2009 at 8:30 pm

Ezekiel English muffins look LEGIT! LOVE the photobooth pictures – lol they’re soo funny!

Is that a really huge cookie? Because it looks so yummy! I love warm cookies with ice cream :D

Katie September 20, 2009 at 8:49 pm

Hooray for girlfriends!!! There’s nothing like a good friend or two to eat deep-fried cheese curds with.

Those oatmeal pancakes look SO good. I have to make them soon! YUYUMYUM.

Thanks for your sweet comment about my long run. You’re a big inspiration to me, sista!

Mia {runs and rests} September 20, 2009 at 9:05 pm

Awww, you’re such a wonderful host. Lots of drool worthy eats for you ladies. Maple Banana Oatmeal Pancakes? Duuude, you have to open a pancake place! :D

I love bonding with my friends over food. Now that the 3 of us are in different countries, we can only chat about food via the intarwebz. ;)

Saturdays are my dessert for dinner nights. I hang out with a group every Saturday evening at some friends’ house. ‘Dinner’ may be chips, popcorn, brownies, donuts, etc.

April September 20, 2009 at 9:09 pm

Holly your killing me with all your yummy meals!! first off that protein packed yogurt mixture sounds awesome and you know I’m going to try it since I’m into the whole protein thing.. second of all I don’t know what that dessert is but it looks to die for.. and third those pancakes.. no words!!

Sophia September 20, 2009 at 10:46 pm

WAHAHAHAHAHAAA! I totally laughed my ASS off! Oh my God, too funny! I LOVE you and your adorable friends, Holly!
I don’t ever eat desserts becaue I was born without a sweet tooth, but once I had a sore throat and all I could eat without pain was froyo!

Andrea@WellnessNotes September 20, 2009 at 11:40 pm

You are so funny! :) Love the pics!

I actually don’t remember ever having dessert for dinner, but that’s because I’m not a big fan of sweets. But you can always find me eating cheese for dinner! ;)

Have a great week! :)

Katie September 21, 2009 at 7:10 am

Yay! I am so glad you had fun with your besties! I eat dessert for dinner on a pretty regular basis. :-)

Karena September 21, 2009 at 7:19 am

UMM. Please describe these cheese curds in detail b/c they look like fried heavenly goodness right now! Are they like mozzerella bites?

Erica September 21, 2009 at 8:15 am

WOW- great job on the 12 miles! LOVE greek yogurt and nut butter- agreed that they are awesome sources of protein :) Sounds like you and the gals had a blast this weekend (despite the lack of purchases). Hmm last time I had dessert for dinner- hmmm I’m not sure? That means I need to have it soon right????

Dawn (HealthySDLiving) September 21, 2009 at 8:30 am

haha LOVE the pictures! :) Sounds like you had a great time and it’s just such a bummer that you had to settle for that horrble dessert! lol YUM!

Leianna September 21, 2009 at 9:17 am

I hd a similar dessert like that for supper on my honeymoon in Grand Cayman, so good and no guilt:)
Looks like one amazing weekend you had!

Angharad (Eating for England) September 21, 2009 at 9:51 am

Angharad (Eating for England) September 21, 2009 at 9:52 am

Okay, I genuinely did not mean to only post that previous comment but it does look pretty hilarious, no?!
So the cheese curds were clearly my fave part of this post but dessert for dinner confirms my love for you further.
Glad the 12 miler went well. You are a rock star!

brandi September 21, 2009 at 10:08 am

sounds like a great weekend and good job on the run!

Mimi (Damn the Freshman 15) September 21, 2009 at 10:12 am

DAMN those are fine eats! Um…I think you might have inspired me to take up jogging again…because that post-run concoction looks phenominal!

I’m happy I found your blog–you have such a great attitude towards healthy balance! And I find your views towards exercise as very practical. I admit, while I love to weightlift, I despise cardio. But if I try to view it as “medicine,” I think that helps me bite the bullet and get my butt on the treadmill…because as much as I hate to admit it, I DO feel better afterwards, haha.

Faith September 21, 2009 at 10:40 am

I haven’t had fried cheese curds in so long! I’m wishing our county fair was open now so I could get me some curds! ;)

Cindy September 21, 2009 at 3:23 pm

You are so funny! I have that feature on my Mac..and me n the crazy Teen have fun with it.

made me laugh out loud!

nice eats too… I’m hungry

Brett September 21, 2009 at 3:38 pm

Mary H would love those curds. They look like they were made in Rice Lake.

Jenny September 21, 2009 at 4:44 pm

oh macbooks, why are you so addicting?

Holy protein! that bowl is a monstahhh, I would prefer that to a burger anyday.

I can’t believe I’ve never eaten dessert for dinner.. does dessert for breakfast count? you know I love me some chocolate covered pretzel oats!

love to you babyboooooo! xo

Ali September 21, 2009 at 8:18 pm

haha, honestly, photobooth makes my life

jessica September 24, 2009 at 12:18 am

Oh my gosh, this is why I love you.

Hilarious photo booth pictures + gorg-y food and a lovely weekend recap to booooot!

I’m drooling over everything in this post. I have GOT to try adding larabars to some greek yog!! I’m sure that combo is amazinggg. And those pancakes?? Your friends are so lucky to have you! :-D

I would love to say that i’ve had dessert for dinner, but I can’t remember the last time I did!!! Whata a tragedy.

Jenna September 25, 2009 at 5:08 pm

omg i love those big dessert cookies!
i have had them at bugaboo creek before!
sooo yummy ;)

Tiffany S. September 25, 2009 at 8:54 pm

I must now search for cinnamon swirl PB or perhaps make my ow AB with a truckload of cinnamon.

This is the second time deep fried cheese curds have been mentioned to me TODAY. I wonder if that’s a sign?
