The Last Hurrah

If I don’t see another Christmas cookie or treat in awhile, I’m okay with that.

This past weekend however, I couldn’t be okay with that.

It was the last hurrah: the final celebration of Christmas 2010.

This time the festive season ended Saturday with my dad’s side of the family, which is totally cool, because they like playing Just Dance 2 on Nintendo Wii…

…have oodles of cute kiddies running around wreaking holiday havoc…

…and play weird (yet oddly entertaining) games where you tie a banana to the back of your cousin’s jeans and make him hit two clementines with said banana into a 1′ x 1′ square box.

Hey, I never claimed we were normal.

There’s also alcoholic libations.

Yummy food + sisters flicking off the camera.

The BEST Russian Tea Cakes (made by Aunt Colleen).

Obligatory sister photos.

More cute kids.

Me losing at a totally impossible game, which I was NOT happy about.

***Side note: you try blowing two greeting cards so they hang on the edge of a rounded countertop without falling completely off. NOT easy.

The real last hurrah? KOMBUCHA.

I am officially obsessed.

Kombucha is my savior ;)

Glad you had a great “last hurrah!”

Mama Pea January 3, 2011 at 9:22 pm

Who invited Lulu to your Christmas? (I swear that black and white photo is her)

I want to make my own kombucha. Are you in?

Kaley January 3, 2011 at 9:23 pm

That picture of the children is so darn adorable!

Katie January 3, 2011 at 9:28 pm

omg girl you know I told you this and you already know this, your photography skills are hot! Your so good at capturing amazing photos !

The pics are so cute of the kids, and the banana game pic is interesting! lol! Your family rocks, I love that you guys just have fun, its what family and memories are about!!!!

Love you Holly! Happy New Year! xoxo

I wish you lived closer to California… I have so many Kombucha babies that need a good home!!! If you have any questions about making it, let me know… I’ve been making it for a while and have figured out just how easy it is. And it is way better then the bottled stuff because you can make it with any tea that you love. It’s also more potent :)

I think your next adventure should be making your own kombucha, it’s SO easy! I took a class at Whole Foods and got everything I needed. My health-food-hating bf is obsessed w/it :)
I know they offer beginner classes at Whole Foods and Willy St. in Madison (free tasting this Weds!)

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) January 3, 2011 at 10:42 pm

I have sooo many kombucha scoby’s that I would be happy to send you to get started making your own booch. It’s beyond easy. I can give you the deets if you’re interested. Lmk. It costs pennies per oz. Rather than like dollars per oz if you buy it :) Plus you can flavor it on your own which is super fun!

And all the kiddos are too cute in this post!

Rachel January 3, 2011 at 10:52 pm

Oh I love family get togethers! I get one more before I can call xmas quits too!

And synergy is the BEST kombucha.

I have played that card game and it is completely impossible. The banana game I haven’t played ever, but it looks like it is right up my alley.

Hi, Holly!

Allow myself to introduce…myself. (Err I guess ^that purple portion took care of that, huh?)

I found your blog through SnackFeezy, but wanted to say “hi” before I was the rand-o commenter. Love your writing style! I’ll be back for more!

Lauren January 4, 2011 at 5:51 am

I’ve been into a Kombucha kick lately myself. It seems to go through phases which is probably a good thing because I don’t think my bank account could handle a full out daily obsession.

Tessa January 4, 2011 at 6:01 am

Me too! More kombucha please! too bad its so expensive! ive gotta learn to make my own

Amber January 4, 2011 at 6:13 am

I <3 Kombucha. The Wonder Drink is a very good brand as is the one you posted. It's great if you have intestinal issues :)

Erica January 4, 2011 at 7:01 am

What a nice time you had with the fam! The kiddos are adorable. And the food looks yummy. Are those baked beans? I want some…now!

Abby January 4, 2011 at 7:12 am

OK. I know you don’t have a brother to marry off to me so I can be in your family, but what about a hot younger male cousin?

I’m still trying to weasel my way in to these family shindigs…

Kacy January 4, 2011 at 8:02 am

Love silly games like that. This year we played a present-wrapping game that was true hilarity. Family rocks.

I’m totally done with the Christmas treats too – it probably will only last a week though! ;)

Christine January 4, 2011 at 12:56 pm

That B/W pic of the kids is just absolutely adorable. I love the kid on the end pushing his nose on the table, haha! Too cute!

And you look gorgeous in the photo with your sisters :)

Heather @ Get Healthy with Heather January 4, 2011 at 1:16 pm

We played a ton of minute to win it games over the weekend. I was able to do that card blowing one… They were so much fun!

Megan (Braise the Roof) January 4, 2011 at 1:38 pm

I love the games. The first one makes it look like he’s trying to poop bananas. This is surely the point of the game, yes? :)

Mary @ Bites and Bliss January 4, 2011 at 2:19 pm

Looks like tons of fun! And I played that Just Dance 2 with my little cousin last week!! Everyone was cracking up! haha

Gillian Young January 4, 2011 at 3:19 pm

I ate so many cookies over Christmas I said to J “I’d be happy to never eat another cookie for a year.” He looked at me and said “You know that’s not true.” And I said, “Fine, a week. Or a few days.”

Your family looks like so much fun! And you, and your perfect curls are stunning!

I found that brand of kombucha during my vacation and probably had one a day–best way to feel good after a night of fun!

Christine (The Raw Project) January 4, 2011 at 4:51 pm

Ugh, there are still left over treats all over the office – they won’t go away! What an odd banana game, lol! Cute pics.
