the perfect Saturday night

in dessert,dinner,life,weekend

I should rephrase that.

The perfect Saturday night after drinking too much on Friday night.

Because really, while I like to think I can pull off the shenanigans of my 21-year-old self of yore, I am 26 years old. My tolerance for imbibing the good stuff is weakening by the day. I can’t eat Taco Bell at 2:00am and rest easy knowing my metabolism will burn off that greasy deliciousness known as Mexican pizza by the morning. If I booty dance too much (practically a guarantee), my quads will be sore the next day. One night of drinking is plenty for this G’ma Everythingtarian, especially when her parents graciously come visit her at the early hour of 8:45am the next day.

And of course, this is all hypothetical.

I would never even DREAM of enjoying alcoholic beverages the night before my Everythingtarian family comes to visit and spending a leisurely breakfast hungover with them. Never would I ever.

But if this were to somehow happen sometime ever, I would suggest evening things out a bit (and by evening out, I mean apologize to your liver), by having the perfect Saturday night like I am having the perfect Saturday night right now.

Start with warm quinoa salad (<- recipe to come!) + grilled asparagus.

Add in the most gorgeous summer sunset from the rooftop of your friend’s apartment.

Make sure your friend’s name is Steph, because she is the best.

Walk around for several miles with Steph and with your frozen yogurt in hand (pomegranate froyo, yogurt chips, granola + blackberries, if you so choose), people watch and enjoy the most perfect summer night.

And last, but certainly not least, be in bed by 11:00pm.

Because don’t ever forget – you can take the Everythingtarian out of the G’ma, but you can’t take the G’ma out of the Everythingtarian.

What did YOU do tonight? Remember, sharing is caring!

My night is just starting, baby! It’s 9:10pm here and I will be up til 5 or 6am.

I LOVE The artsy, sepia-tone-ish shots…and you and your friend are GORGEOUS!

And if you think 26 is old, then I am totally a grandma :)

My night is just coming to an end. Worked for most of the day and then went up to the Ogden music festival with friends. Your night looks great! Friends and frozen yogurt equals a perfect combination!

Sounds fantastic! Tonight I made homemade pasta with my family. I’d never done it before and it was SO cool. The pasta was really soft (I prefer al dente) but it was still pretty good.

That sounds like a perfect weekend night! :) I enjoyed a great dinner with family and unfortunately had to spend the rest tirelessly searching for a freaking apartment… Oh well. At least I enjoyed reading about your night!

Gillian June 5, 2011 at 4:09 am

I’m with you on one night of drinking! I was out Thursday and Friday night and thus spent Saturday night curled up on the sofa with snacks and a rom com. That’s how we roll.

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate June 5, 2011 at 7:20 am

Looks like a great night!

One glass of wine gets me tipsy now. I wish that was a hyperbole, but it is so much the truth that it’s actually kind of embarrassing. That being said, sometimes nights like ones you just described (especially in the summer!) are the best kinds.

I spent last night in DC, having an early birthday dinner with my brother, my dad, and his girlfriend. We had far too many mojitos and far too much cuban bread with mango butter, and we lingered over our meal for nearly three hours. In other words, it was fantastic : )

i watched, “because i said so”, and spent the evening texting lines from the movie to Sarah cuz my other daughters were out having a great saturday night.

Any night that involves nice weather and frozen yogurt is always a winner! My night involved a date with the man. We did dinner, went to lowes and got paint for the baby room, relaxed and then Josh painted the baby room. I helped tape it and all that but can’t be around paint fumes=lame!

That does sound like a pretty perfect Saturday night!

I had one myself last night, though it was pretty quiet and modest — just me, my book (I’m reading “Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer”) and a glass of pinot noir, sidled up to the bar at a cozy little Southern-inspired restaurant around the corner from my house. Nobody to bother me, no elaborate dinner plans: Just some relaxed time to actually read for a change. Heavenly…

I celebrated my sister-in-law’s wedding. It was quite possibly the most fun I’ve EVER had at a wedding.

We went to our town’s strawberry festival and then had some friends over for a cook-out. My 24 year old self sometimes thinks I am 21 again too. I need a night like yours tonight!

haha, I do not recover like I used too….I am not in college anymore, well at least I try to remind myself of that fact

Marcy June 5, 2011 at 10:04 am

I spent my Saturday night with my friend, Shan, House Hunters International and Coldstone Chocolate Cake Batter icecream with strawberries. It was perfect, too.

Katie June 5, 2011 at 10:40 am

Gah, I had a glass of wine on Friday night and got a headache about one hour afterwards…I kept thinking back to just 5 years ago when I would drink like a fish, then go out and run 15 miles the next day. Crazy how just a few years can make you feel like you’re a g’ma, huh?

I spent last night at my in-laws on their deck (also) watching a gorgeous sunset and eating Caesar salad until my belly bulged. T’was perfect, too.

Ted June 5, 2011 at 10:42 am

Not to mention that you didn’t completely abstain from alcohol on Thursday night ;)

I also had a quiet night in with some frozen butternut squash ravioli. However, that was preceded by a day at the Terrace filled with jazz music and pitchers. I love Madison.

Low June 5, 2011 at 11:15 am

I didn’t do a dang thing last night but watch the last two episodes of House online and some reruns of The Voice on E! while downing multiple bowls of cereal. It was fabulous.
The sunset is gorg!!
My g’ma ways increase by the days. It’s true.

Brenna [fabuleuxdestin] June 5, 2011 at 12:58 pm

I watched a movie (Australia) with a new friend! And ate tomato tart :) with nutella chocolate for dessert :)

Frances June 5, 2011 at 2:41 pm

Last night…yesterday was a hard day, because i bid a good friend/kind of lover goodbye. i watched him drive off with his life in a penske truck and i cried a lot…and then i went to work. i was so wiped out from being sad that instead of being a 24 year old and going out all night, i went on a bike ride, baked cookies and a mango-blueberry pie, watched “spirited away,” and went to bed before midnight.

it was gloriously comforting.

Keelie (SweatEqualsSuccess) June 5, 2011 at 2:45 pm

Last night I ordered sushi and relaxed with my husband- we had spent the day hiking and were EXHAUSTED! :)

melissa June 5, 2011 at 3:46 pm

Well, considering it’s almost 1p here on a Sunday I’ll tell you what I did lastnight..

My radio show, made tacos, and drank an irish coffee topped with vanilla ice cream… definitely not the party animal of the college days but damn, did I enjoy myself. :)

Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli June 5, 2011 at 8:35 pm

Looks like you had an awesome night! Such a beautiful sunset! My NIGHT was fairly boring (vacuuming, laundry, roasting veggies for this week’s lunches), but earlier today I went on a long bike ride and did some exploring! It was nice to get some quiet time to myself and I think I found my new favorite place to ride!

Jess June 5, 2011 at 8:51 pm

I went grocery shopping, haha! Got SO much fresh (and frozen!!) produce. I get giddy just thinking about it ;)

Your Saturday night sounds LOVELY!!

jenna June 5, 2011 at 9:08 pm

Shannon June 6, 2011 at 12:54 pm

Saturday night I watched the World of Color water show at Disney California Adventure after a full day at Disneyland with my family! What an awesome show!
