the photo-a-day challenge

The world can be a mean and scary and crazy place.

That is why little things in life are absolutely essential. I’m going to go out on a limb and say they may even be more essential than breathing. What can I say, I’m one for bold statements.

Little things like Reese’s peanut butter Easter eggs where the peanut butter to chocolate ratio is a solid 4:1…or the view from the top on a sunny, bright-as-can-be-blue sky…or chortling. Have you ever watched as one of of your best friend’s laughed so hard they actually chortled? I have. And there isn’t anything nearly as beautiful…or funny.

Life brings uncertainty.

You can go from having minor surgery on Monday (it was a small benign cyst…no biggie) to getting your hair done on Tuesday (copper + blond highlights, if you must know) to pounding out a 3 mile run AND 60 minute hot yoga class before coming home to eat a dinner of crackers, cream cheese + roasted brussel sprouts (ahem, me right now).

Kidding.

I’m talking real uncertainty: job losses…health problems…financial hardship…break-ups…the unexpected…and making those gigantic leaps of faith when you can’t quite see the ground where you’ll land. If things aren’t uncertain now, chances are at some point they will be.

And when that happens, the only things you can depend on are cookies and photographs.

Photographs remind us of a time when things felt certain while cookies…cookies comfort.

Have I ever told you I have a Tumblr blog? It’s my little personal space of the web where I like to post quotes and pictures and videos and links and random things I find that inspire me to be better, look better, write better, think better or laugh better. And right now, I am doing a 30-day photo challenge and taking one picture a day of the assigned topic.

It’s kind of awesome.

Over the past 11 days thus far, capturing snapshots of my life – either with my Canon Rebel EOS or Instagram – has been one of those little things that has gently reminded me to take a step back from my exceedingly busy schedule, enjoy the semi-uncertainty that is my life and just laugh.

Or chortle.

I’m totally game for both.

P.S. Your comments and emails from my last post made my day. I thought you should know.

I love challenges like these! I’m a little far behind, but I think I’ll join in on it too. :D

Now look who is doing the catch-up commenting? (It’s me, it’s me!)

I love your acorn squash pancakes and I need them. Preferably this morning. Also, I have all the ingredients for that roasted squashy thing and I kind of need that too. And I love the photos on your tumbler blog…hip, hip, hooray for photography!

Why are we so n’sync?! My new year’s resolution is to do a picture a day for a year. I like this post cause now the challenge can give me some ideas…

P.S. Love that picture of you. Adorable.
