these are my confessions, part two

confession #1: I was originally unsure whether to write my last post. I honestly thought I should stay out of the whole debacle but reading all your comments made me oh-so-happy I listened to my gut and wrote what I felt. Weird how when you listen to that small, Jimeny Cricket-like voice inside you, things usually turn out okay, no?

confession #2: I haven’t showered in two days. When you have a full-time job working in a small, sometimes suffocating space with other human beings, looking and smelling like a hawt mess isn’t good for anybody…namely my co-worker Chris.

confession #3: The only meal I’ve spent more than five minutes putting together from start to finish these past couple days has been breakfast – specifically big, delicious bowls of oatmeal.

1/2 cup oats
1 cup water + 1 egg (whisked in)
pinch of salt
1 diced Haralson apple
drizzle of pure maple syrup
cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
1 almost empty sunflower seed butter jar

And, the long-awaited return of Pumpkin Oats

1/2 cup oats
1 cup water
pinch of salt
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
drizzle of pure maple syrup
cinnamon, ginger + nutmeg
1 T dark chocolate chips
almond butter drizzle

confession #4: My favorite apple is Haralson. While Honeycrisp, Braeburn and Gala do the trick when they must, it is this Minnesota-born tart, juicy wonder that steals my heart every year.

Yes, steals my heart.

When there’s no boys knocking down your door, you gotta give some love to something.

confession #5: I have three days worth of dishes in the sink. I haven’t worked out in three days.  I need to pick up three essentials from Target (toothbrush, toothpaste + conditioner). I also have no plans to remedy any of these three things tonight.

confession #6: I ate this entire bag in one day.

Seriously, these are crack.

Like I realize people say that all the time, but I swear to Grilled Cheesus I really mean it.

Crack.

confession #7: I get really, really, really excited when I win giveaways from other blogs. It’s probably because I’m not used to winning things. I mean, if you ever compete against me in anything, I’m so crazy competitive I will probably talk a pretty big, slightly trashy game like I am going to win.

The good part for you is: I won’t.

Five (!!!) bags of Galaxy Granola from Matt’s blog…

…as well as a copy of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (a book I’ve seriously been wanting to read for more than a year now) and some treats from Brandi’s blog!

Since I may be the last food blogger in the webisphere to try the new Larabar flavors, I immediately dug into the coveted Carrot Cake flavor…

Verdict? Disappointed.

Too much pineapple, not enough carrot or spice.

confession #8: While I am making slow but steady progress on not biting my nails, I am still keeping my precious sausage link of a left hand pinky for an emergency gnaw.

confession #9: My life is insanely busy right now. I’m behind on everything. I fell asleep at 8:30pm on Tuesday night and slept 10 hours. I woke up still exhausted. Yeah.

confession #10: What is one thing YOU need to confess today?

Aren’t cooked apples in oatmeal one of the best things ever!? I’m going apple picking this weekend and cannot wait to stack up to make and eat everything apple. It’s funny how I hardly ever ‘crave’ apples except for this time of the year.

Alex @ IEatAsphalt October 7, 2010 at 7:06 pm

Agreed with the thoughts on the Carrot Cake Larabar. Huge letdown. Thankfully, the pbutter choc chip makes up for it.

Evan Thomas October 7, 2010 at 7:09 pm

I’ve listened to this song 6 times tonight, and I don’t plan on stopping http://tinyurl.com/2fzujn6
Also, I’ve spent far too much time on the “Whole New World/Aladdin” Pandora station

Lauren October 7, 2010 at 7:15 pm

Oh Holly, I think your confessions are not only entirely amusing, they are so much needed. One of the many things I love about you, you’re one of the most real and honest people I know!!! Never change. Promise me that! :)

There is no shame in any of these things you just confessed. Well, maybe the shower thing. LOL NO I’m so kidding! :) I bet you could go 2 weeks before someone would notice. :)

Love you girl!

BroccoliHut October 7, 2010 at 7:28 pm

Confession: my toaster oven kind of caught on fire today. Oops.

Amanda October 7, 2010 at 7:29 pm

Your life sounds like mine right now! Too many things to do, and I am constantly exhausted–especially when I think about all that I have to do! It’s important to take time to breathe! <–I need to remind myself this a lot.

Erica October 7, 2010 at 8:12 pm

I’ve never heard of that kind of apple and I kind of need one. I’m apple obsessed. Pink lady is my favorite. Galaxy granola…amazing. I could eat a whole bag in one sitting. I hope you get some rest time this weekend! Confession….I need a week off from teaching, after running a race last weekend this little ladies body is shot

Totally loved this post – you are too funny. There is nothing wrong with not showering for two days… or spending more time on making breakfast ahn anything else. I won’t judge you!

Lynn @ The Actors Diet October 7, 2010 at 8:43 pm

i’ve been wanting to try the new larabar flavors forever – they aren’t ANYWHERE in l.a., nyc, or nj (i’ve looked!) now i don’t feel so bad that i’ve been missing out…

Kendall October 7, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Bahahah emergency gnaw. I just laughed out loud and my cat stirred/rustled in her sleep.

It’s an exciting night around here.

I haven’t had anything green today. Now that I think about it it’s actually been all brown – pb & crackers, chickfila, chocolate cake.

Ha…okay green smoothie time.

janetha October 7, 2010 at 9:15 pm

i gave the EXACT same review about the carrot cake bar just last week. or maybe the week before? anyway, i agree with you 110% too much pineapple, and where is the spice?

hooray for winning giveaways! i recently won THREE of the CSN stores gift card giveaways. i am giddy. i am less giddy that i used one card to buy a green bay packers FLAG for the front of the house. yeah.. turns out CSN has loads of packers shit. at least marshall didnt make me spring for the matching sofa and arm chair…

your pumpkin oats look fantastic and there is nothing wrong with not showering. i promise. you should be glad i am telling you that, seeing as how we are sharing a bed in less than a month.

holy shit! less than a month!

love you holly w.

Mara @ What's For Dinner? October 7, 2010 at 9:16 pm

SO proud of you for not biting 9/10 nails :)
My confession: I kind of liked being out of the house until 8:30 tonight because I didn’t want to watch the husband kill more zombies on his PS3.

claire October 7, 2010 at 9:35 pm

Love this post cause we all need to confess every once in a while…oh, and your wit and charm helps.
Confession: I spent most of the day on my computer since I spent most of my summer away from it.

Katie October 7, 2010 at 10:19 pm

This is awesome.

My confession: I hate Larabars. Every flavor.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) October 7, 2010 at 10:50 pm

“Minnesota-born tart, juicy wonder that steals my heart every year.”–

Omg being the MN girl at heart that I am, I remember going to the arboretum’s apple tents and apple buildings and taste testing every random variety of apples…and haralsons always stealing the show!

Your nails..hey youre doing better!

CArrot cake bar review, thanks. Reinforces why I never buy laras. I just make my own and season appropriately.

Those nuts. Ok so i made carmelized chickpeas the other day. And Julie Go Lean just made them and said they were crack-like. So it’s not just me. Save yourself some cash if you need a new crack carmelization thing, I may have a recipe for you.

Enjoy the shower, when ever that happens :)

Madeline - Greens and Jeans October 7, 2010 at 11:21 pm

Today’s confession? I am averaging about 3 freakouts a day over things like furniture and whether or not I should just throw away all my worldly possessions. Thanks moving.

katie October 7, 2010 at 11:31 pm

AMEN on confession 9.. life is cuh-razzyyy but it rocks, doesnt it? i loved your honest post!

elise October 8, 2010 at 1:34 am

i love winning blog giveaways too. its like i did something to deserve a treat without any effort!

grilled cheesus. love it.

Laura October 8, 2010 at 2:25 am

I ate M&M’s for lunch…

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) October 8, 2010 at 7:09 am

Don’t feel bad about only having time for oats. Between oats and sardines and peanut butter, that is what I have been living off of these past couple of days…haha (don’t worry, I didn’t mix them all together. ;) )

Hang in there girly! The business will eventually slow down!

Sarah B. October 8, 2010 at 8:33 am

My Confession: I bite/pick at my nails too. I have gel nails now. I am hoping that when I get them off, I will no longer bite them :)

I loved your Glee reference!

brandi October 8, 2010 at 9:11 am

SO glad you got the package!

The Carrot Cake wasn’t my favorite either, but I figured you’d want to try it. I like pineapple, but there was a little too much in that bar.

I hope you like the book!

Tay October 8, 2010 at 11:33 am

Confession: I ran 9.5 miles last night, stayed in my workout clothes for a good 2 hours, than changed into PJs. Without a shower. Ew.

Confession: Favorite apple – Fujis. I actually don’t like honeycrisps.

Confession: Um. Those walnuts. Look. Bomb.

Katie October 8, 2010 at 3:34 pm

Oooh I want one of the Minnesota apples…if it’s better than honeycrisp, I can’t even imagine.

Confession: I’ve been putting off going to the bank for at least 2 weeks. I think I am going to break down and go in a few minutes. :-)

Adam October 9, 2010 at 3:37 am

You have done it! You have found an apple that i have not tried… You deserve more than just a few bags of granola for this. No one has ever introduced me to an apple i haven’t previously, well, engulfed. My new mission will be to find one now, and i am not waiting until i drive through Minnesota next year… Once again, your fingers ARE NOT sausages yo, they look more like fingers to me! I hope the stress dies down soon, i am assuming this is the reason you have been exhausted? One thing that helps me is reading children’s books for about 15 minutes before hitting the pillow. Seriously. You might think i am a freak, but a little Shel Silverstein or Roald Dahl will do wonders with taking my mind off of organic chem / comparative psych. Try it out! :)

Erica D October 9, 2010 at 9:21 am

My friends and I went to Lebanon for the weekend and got in a fight with the owner of the best club in Beirut (and possibly the Middle East). We also had a huge impromptu dancing and shots party with some southern Lebanese in their beach shack while it was raining. I do not want to figure out how much money I spent this weekend; I just know that it was insane and it probably involved the most amount of alcohol I’ve ever had in 48 hours. We gave America a very bad name, but remarkably, everything was ok when we woke up in our hostel this morning.

An I wish I could post pictures of all these shenanigans, but I know my study abroad director is stalking my blog (in a good way). All these secrets…it’s only the beginning!

Leanne October 9, 2010 at 12:57 pm

This post makes me smile.

You are hip in my book, I have yet to try the new carrot cake flavor I have heard soooooo many reviews about.
