this weekend i…

(1) Spent almost two whole days in my lovely home state of Minnesota.

(2) Hung out with my sisters. Turns out, despite the childhood hair pulling and forcing me to be a step-stool, they’re pretty cool. Even if they rip your button-down shirt open and expose your highly-padded bra in front of your sister’s boyfriend (<- ahem, twice).

(3) Ate lunch + spent gal pal time with Angharad at The Bulldog NE. Butternut squash + pancetta flatbread pizza. Harvest salad with mixed greens, pears + pistachios. A free chocolate cherry cupcake. All split between the two of us. Yes, yes and yes.

(4) Went to dinner at Doolittle’s with my family. Beer…buffalo wings…Thai eggrolls…butternut squash soup…salad…walleye fingers…all shared and consumed with those I love most.

(5) Watched Badger football give a 48-17 WHOOPIN’ to Nebraska. #urahrahwisconsin!

(6) Woke up at 5:40am on a Sunday morning, drank a strawberry banana smoothie, laced up my new running sneaks and ran 10 miles through the not-so-mean streets of Minneapolis + St. Paul with my friend Binks + her mom, Mama Binks, for the Twin Cities 10-Mile Race.

(7) Thought twice about that marathon I said I was signing up for next year.

(8) Crossed the Franklin Bridge staring at the most gorgeous sunrise at mile #3, ran into an Everythingtarian reader at mile #7 (hi Amy!), put on a dance performance complete with jazz hands with Binks at mile #8 and happily crossed the finish line in 1:57.13 at mile #10.

(9) Guzzled free Caribou Coffee right after finishing the race. The worst/best idea I’ve ever had.

(10) Enjoyed a delicious brunch with Binks + her family – complete with scrambled eggs with veggies, sausage, coffee cake, hashbrowns, zucchini brownies + more coffee – before hitting the open road back to Madison upon the completion of another successfully fun weekend.

What did YOU do this weekend? Let’s not forget, sharing is caring!

Love you! Had so much fun hanging out and catching up. Yay!

Congratulations on running 10 miles you bad ass! Sounds like it went swimmingly. Rock on sister. x

Jessica October 2, 2011 at 10:09 pm

Congrats! Looks like you had an AWESOME weekend! I went to Chicago this weekend for Cultivate where I drank lots and lots of beer.

Nice run! Fun and looks like it was a great weekend away…family time is really the best. Haven’t seen mine since January (the distance b/w Alberta, Canada and San Francisco, CA will do that to ya)! This weekend, I ran 11.23 miles, did a fun kettlebell workout in my gym (aka the basement), ate pancakes with peaches on them, heard a great sermon at church, went to the farmer’s market with my husband, and shaved my legs twice. Oh – and I ate a brownie with vanilla ice cream just now. ‘Twas a good one! ;)

Nice job on the 10k, girl! This weekend I had a sorority workshop then potluck dinner (MMM FOOOOOD)..and then I spent today in the library. Not quite as exciting as yours!

Fun weekend! Seriously fun. I’m kind of jealous of everything, especially the girl time with Angharad and the cupcake. For reals.

Have a great week, friend!

Sounds and looks like a very fun weekend! But I have to say that I prefer the eating over the running part… ;)

Yesterday, I got to meet Deb (aka LASmoothieGirl) and her lovely husband in person, and we went on a nice hike and out to lunch. And today we went to a garden park with the toddler and then had friends over for dinner. Not a bad weekend at all.

Have a great week!

Looks like a successful weekend to me! I’m totally in awe of you and those 10 miles – I can’t even imagine such a feat right now. Way.to.go.

The Spaniard and I spent a lovely weekend together walking the city and relaxing at home. It was wonderful!

Kathryn October 3, 2011 at 3:29 am

Well done on the race, that’s such an excellent achievement and I would look nowhere near as good after 10 miles!

Madeline - Greens and Jeans October 3, 2011 at 5:14 am

Dude, I can’t belive that one year ago yesterday you hopped into the TCM to run 5 miles with you. You’re still the best. And hells yes to the 10 miler!

Amy B @ Second City Randomness October 3, 2011 at 6:15 am

I’m jealous of the description of that brunch! Oh food… I love you…

Congrats on the race and it sounds like a solid weekend with the fam. I hope the bra was at least a pretty one… ;)

Katie October 3, 2011 at 6:26 am

Congrats on the race!

Yay for family time too! I always love hanging with my sisters, we like to torture each other to this day, just like when we were little! haha!

Gretchen October 3, 2011 at 6:42 am

Sounds like a fun weekend. One of my friends ran the TC Marathon yesterday, but sadly I live in Louisiana now (was just up in MN for college) and couldn’t be there to cheer her on. Congrats on your 10 miles!

Amber October 3, 2011 at 7:05 am

I started raw balance. It’s an 11 week initiative to better healthier you. It’s been amazing. I’ve been 90% raw since Saturday and loving it!

Susan October 3, 2011 at 7:07 am

This is what I call a highly successful weekend!!! Good food, friends, family, and some sweat ;) I watched Away We Go over the weekend and thought of you when the characters were in Madison! In between playing with my new puppy of course.

Erica October 3, 2011 at 7:12 am

We had very similar weekends! Good food, family, friends and running! That cupcake looks perfect

Sarah@The Flying ONION October 3, 2011 at 7:17 am

10 miles? ROCK ON! What a fun weekend. A perfect weekend, actually. :D

emily (a nutritionist eats) October 3, 2011 at 8:27 am

Ahhh, LOVE Bulldog. We had our last MPLS hurrah there. :) Awesome weekend!

Charlotte October 3, 2011 at 10:04 am

So good to see you this weekend! I considered wearing my medal to work today but decided it clashed with my outfit. I think next time I should come to Madison and we can run a race together there…I will make you pretty, homemade arm warmers and everything!

PS Nance is gonna love being called “Mama Binks” and thanks for posting the mega cleavage shot of me in a small frame. :-)

Katie @ Peace Love & Oats October 3, 2011 at 11:02 am

Congrats on the run!! I’m always tempted by the coffee after races, but I know it would make me nauseous! Sounds like a good weekend at home, makes me homesick!

Megan (Braise the Roof) October 3, 2011 at 3:30 pm

Your weekend was a lot more productive than mine. :) I’m enjoying all of the butternut squash eating you did- I’ve got a huge one sitting on my counter and I think I need to roast it up!

Hillary October 3, 2011 at 5:43 pm

This weekend, I was the maid of honor in my best friend’s wedding. There was cake, tears, dancing, beautiful dresses, friends, and lots of love. A good weekend indeed!

jeri October 3, 2011 at 6:18 pm

ahhh we suck again at meeting. fail = us. I saw your finisher pic/tweet far too late to holler at you. BUMMER! Congrats on a fun weekend. It was seriously suuuuuuuuuuuuuch a gorg midwest weekend. :D

Alisha October 3, 2011 at 7:02 pm

FUN! I’m preparing for my first half marathon this weekend – by preparing, i’m desperately trying to keep my sore throat away and praying for good weather… the forecast is rain! EEEK!

Lauren http://theclimbingchef.blogspot.com/ October 3, 2011 at 8:31 pm

Good job on the run! I could not run 10 miles right now… I’m not supposed to anyway (bad knees/back). What did I do this weekend? Oh you know… moved into my new adorable house :) And did a LOT of homework… boo on that…

Katie October 4, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Oh, I miss Minnesota! I especially miss Minnesota RIGHT NOW. It’s the perfect time of year there.

Congrats on the 10 miler! While my legs are nowhere near ready for that one, would love to run with you someday.

This past weekend I celebrated my birthday and spent the entire next day recovering. I kid you not, I did not feel like a human until 8:30 PM. I do not like this part of getting older!

Emily October 4, 2011 at 4:53 pm

Congrats on the 10 miler!!! The marathon was fabulous!!! Such a great route, I highly recommend it!!! And what perfect weather, although perhaps a little hot for a marathon. We should meet up sometime if we ever find we are in Minneapolis at the same time. Christmas time?

Carolyn @HealthKitten.com October 10, 2011 at 9:29 am

Late commenting – because I just found your blog! – but congrats on the 10 miler! I’ve done that race in the past and it’s always a fun one!

I have a 10k on the 22nd in Mankato during the Mankato Marathon festivities and I hope to do well, considering I’m only up to 4 miles consistently. I did the half marathon last year, but injuries kept me from training for it this summer, so I had to drop to the 10k. If you want a great fall marathon in MN, it’s a great one (and a Boston qualifier, if that’s your goal).
