Thursday Ramblings

Happy Thursday kiddos!

This morning, I was thinking about a 4 mile run, but it was still dark out at 6am.  As a girl, I am way too much of a scaredy cat to go out running in the dark by myself (us girls know the horror stories…).  So, I happily enjoyed another hour in the warm comfort of my bed before enjoying this delicious breakfast sammich

Ezekiel Sprouted English Muffin
Sunshine Breakfast veggie patty
My Mama’s Egg Sandwich
a camera-shy nectarine

Hit the spot.  TWSS (in honor of tonight’s The Office premiere, I couldn’t resist :)).

Work was uber-busy today, so I didn’t get very many pics of food.  However, I did manage to sneak in a shot of what is most possibly my new fave Starbucks drink of choice…

Grande Nonfat Misto + 2 pumps of chai

FYI: A misto is also known as a cafe au lait which is also known as 1/2 milk + 1/2 coffee.

Sound the trumpets and blow the horns, because I also had my very first PranaBar today courtesy of Missy: Pear Ginseng!  Look at all that nutty, seedy, datey, ginsengy goodness…

It. Was. Delish.  I. Will. Definitely. Buy. These. With. My. Own. Money.

Work was expected to go until way late tonight, but luckily I got out at 5pm.  Woowoo!  I was starving, so I made a quick trip to Quizno’s for a veggie sammie of love before hitting up the gym.  This bugger was made of whole wheat bread, guacamole, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, red onion, cheddar, mozzarella and red wine vinaigrette.

Twas’ cheesy and perfect for thee grumbling tummy.

Since I snarfed down the meal, I knew I couldn’t run (hello? CRAMPAGE!).  Instead, I did something I haven’t done in probably months: hopped on our friend the elliptical machine!

I actually like the elliptical.  I set it on interval training with a base level of 10, then pumped my way through 45 minutes of goodness + a Discovery Channel show about NYC bridges.  Dork, I know.  After ellipticalling, I went to a glorious 75-minute power flow yoga class. Sometimes, a good long work-out is what I need to clear the mind and feed the body.

Now, I am going to finish my bowl of cereal, shower, clean the kitch quick, pop in an episode of last season’s The Office (three more episodes to catch-up on) and do some blog reading. This weekend, two of my best friends are coming to visit me, and I am so friggin’ excited!

Tomorrow is Friday, and the ladies will soon reunite!

Do you watch The Office, and without giving anything away, how was the premiere tonight? (If you don’t, just lie to me and tell me you do).

What is your favorite gym machine? I think I would have to go with the elliptical – we all know mine certainly isn’t the dreadmill (yeah, I spelled that right)!

P.S. Go check out my guest post on the fabulous Janetha’s blog!  Thanks :)

Tina September 17, 2009 at 8:30 pm

I thought I’d pop over after reading your post on Janetha’s blog…

The elliptical is my favourite machine too! And the bar looks great ;)

Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) September 17, 2009 at 8:32 pm

I love the Office, but I thought the premeire was only ok. Enough Jim and Pam cuteness to keep me watching though! :)

I love Quizno’s but I haven’t been in ages. They have the best sandwiches!

Leianna September 17, 2009 at 8:50 pm

That brakfast sammie has me drooling, yum!
Never seen the office, sorry!
I love a treadmill! Need to buy my own someday!

Holly Mason September 17, 2009 at 8:56 pm

Tonight’s Office Premier will NOT disappoint! I quite enjoyed it! I am glad you are an Office fan too… see- this holly thing is just freaky.. we have MUCH in common.. however, you have changed your layout.

Happy Friday (tomorrow)!

P.s. I try my best not to run when it’s dark out either.. better safe than sorry, I say!! I know a few people who’ve stepped on branches, litter, and such and rolled ankles running in the dark… not to mention the “creepers” out thurrr.

Katie September 17, 2009 at 9:08 pm

Ooh, I want to do naughty things to that breakfast sandwich. I ate my last Ezekiel English muff the other day and I am HURTING! I need to re-stock ASAP.

I love the Office, but I’m never home when it’s on. I usually just watch online.

I like the stairmaster at the gym… it’s pretty efficient, so I can get on and off in the shortest amount of time and get my bum out of the gym!

April September 17, 2009 at 9:41 pm

Whoa you had an awesome workout today! My legs are so weak I can’t do level 10! Well I probably could but most likely only for a couple minutes :)

For some reason I’ve been obsessed with the stairmaster lately.. mainly because it’s at a set speed so I can’t get lazy!

Andrea@WellnessNotes September 17, 2009 at 9:44 pm

Hubby LOVES The Office. I go through phases of liking it and not being into it so much… I’ll catch tonight’s episode in a few minutes though… ;)

BroccoliHut September 17, 2009 at 10:06 pm

Whoa. PERFECT breakfast alert.
Loved your guest post!

Tay September 17, 2009 at 10:41 pm

Girrrrllllll guess what I got in the mail today!?!? Somethin’ special! Thank you so much! I loved the cute packaging and of course your signature note/poem! Thank you!! Made my day :-D

I do occasionally watch the Office and watched part tonight. It was hilarious!! Fave gym machine? Ehhh I guess the stairmaster just because you get a kick-@ss workout!

J @Whole Body Love September 17, 2009 at 11:09 pm

I was an elliptical addict after I had my daughter!

Nicole September 18, 2009 at 12:13 am

I completely understand not wanting to go walking/running when it’s dark outside.

Starbucks misto? I’ve never heard of it before– I’ll have to try it! Honestly, I don’t really know what half of the drink names at Starbucks mean haha. Cafe con leche is one of my favorite ways to drink coffee, and it sounds kind of like a misto!

glidingcalm September 18, 2009 at 12:21 am

dang gurl! you are a workout maniac!! elliptical AND yoga! inspirational! i can barely get myself moving nowadays! Oh the life of a retired skater……err wait, you make it so i can’t have that excuse! DOH!

love the quiznos and sbucks action!!!!! delisssssh

Alison September 18, 2009 at 5:35 am

I ended up having to record The Office last night – can’t wait to watch today!

I enjoy the elliptical once and a while too. A nice way to change it up!

In fact, it’s been a while since I’ve used it since I’m only at the gym in the colder months and suddenly I’m all nostalgic thinking about it!

Hope you have a blast with your girls – wish I was there with ya! xoxo!

Emily September 18, 2009 at 6:04 am

I love the eliptical too…its the only machine I always use when I go to the gym (which, come to think of it, I should do soon). I also like the weight machines, because its harder for others to tell how much (or in my case, how little) weight you’re lifting, pushing, or pulling.

Now I want to watch The Office….

Coco September 18, 2009 at 6:11 am

Hey!!! I just found your blog after reading your guest post on Janetha’s website. I love your blog and I can’t wait to continue reading it! Janetha is one of my fav bloggers and I live bout 5 hours from her in Sun Valley, Idaho. Right now I’m in Boston going to school though.
Those Ezekial english muffins rock my socks offf!!!! Stop by my blog and say hello!

Justine September 18, 2009 at 6:14 am

Hey Lovely,
I have missed your bloggie! All the food looks yummy as always. Ooo, oo, I watched the Office. Pretty funny I must say. Machine at the Y?? Hmmm I like the weights, does that count? Have a great time this weekend and dont drink to much! :) hehehe

insideiamdancing September 18, 2009 at 6:29 am

I have never seen The Office! I think the UK one is different…hehe, got my youtube plan of action for tonight!

I’ve never been to Quzino’s- same idea as Subway? Looks great :D

I wouldn’t go running in the dark at 6am either… I am missing the long hours of daylight!

Christina September 18, 2009 at 6:38 am

favorite gym machine? i guess it would be the elliptical or treadmill…but WAIT!! if i am allowed to pick spinner bikes- i pick that…being that I am an instructor and all haha and holly, that breakfast sandwhich honestly looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G…looks both satisfying AND delicious. cant beat that! Amen to the long drawn out workouts… i had one of those last night and it was fantastic. lets you have some alone time for awhile. and thank you for your very very very thoughtful comment on my blog….really means a lot to me to know that I have the support of you as well as the rest of the blog world through thick and thin ;)

Emily (The Experimentarian) September 18, 2009 at 6:53 am

Your food pics are so lovely! And I would die for one of those huckleberry cordials a few posts back–how divine! I don’t watch The Office. It embarrasses me :) I love the elliptical. It’s my weapon of choice fer sure. xoxo

Lizzy September 18, 2009 at 8:09 am

pretty sure i’m late on commenting, but seriously that breakfast sammie looks amazing Holly! so gourmet, will you come make me one! haha

I hope you and your girlfriends have alot of fun this weekend! I love girl weekends! :)

Angharad (Eating for England) September 18, 2009 at 8:23 am

Ohh lady. I am so not a gym rat. Not a fan of the dreadmill or the elliptical. Or anything else. Let’s go with that ball thing that you can use for sit ups. I like that thing.

Thank you for explaining the term ‘misto’ for non-starbuckians like myself. I did indeed google it yesterday and so was nodding my head along reading your cafe au lait explanation. Damn Starbucks for making up words to confuse me!

Feck. Why have I never thought to have a veggie burger type thingy for breakfast?! GENIUS.

I wish you were here for my 9 miler this weekend. But don’t fret, I will make it to Mad Town soon!
HAPPY FRIDAY!! Have such an amazing time with your gals. Super duper fun times. Rad. Yah.(all said in german accent) xx

Dawn (HealthySDLiving) September 18, 2009 at 8:31 am

I love the elliptical, especially since I’m not so grea in the running department. Lately I’ve been loving/hating the stairmaster too.

talesfromtwocities September 18, 2009 at 8:36 am

I’m scared to run in the dark in the AM too, I’m really missing my morning workouts.I love The Office but haven’t watched the new one yet. Kind of felt like it was losing the spark last season, hoping they can pull it back!

Susan September 18, 2009 at 8:51 am

Dude, I can’t believe we both went to J-School AND worked at Starbucks!! I love the chai-coffee combo too. I always get the strangest looks when I order sometimes, and I have to explain to them I used to be a barista and they immediately understand :P

I used to be anti-elliptical, but ever since I discovered the center and rear driven machines, they’ve really grown on me. I’m okay with the treadmill for speedwork. New fave machine these days is the rowing machine! Awesome way to work the arms while keeping the heart rate up :)

K September 18, 2009 at 9:10 am

That Prana bar looks gooo-od! YAY for not having to stay late at work!! That Quizno’s combo looks delicious – do you remember those rat commercials (‘we love the suuuubs’) from like 5 years ago?

I gushed about the premiere on my blog – it was awkwardly funny which is the best. I am partial do the leg press machine at the gym. Love having strong legs!

Emily (Healthy Fit Mama) September 18, 2009 at 9:14 am

I’ve always been an elliptical girl, but unfortunately I don’t belong to a gym anymore. I just workout at home.

Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) September 18, 2009 at 9:20 am

I bought not one, but TWO boxes of sunshine burgers last night. They are so wholesome and I like that they don’t contain soy (sometimes I worry that I’m eating too much soy product…). Your veggie sammie looks yummy – love that you were able to guac on it! Subway needs to get on the band wagon :-)

Have a great weekend!

Cindy September 18, 2009 at 9:41 am

I am so glad you talked about your eating and then working out

I am having trouble with doing the ole jog in the am on the treadmill bf work, and have been opting to do it at night (which I am not thrilled about because I have to eat REALLY late, not at all or jog with some food in my tum)

none of that is really working.

I need to figure it all out

sounds like you’ve got a fun weekend ahead!
and i am gonna have to lie to you …”yes, I watch the Office”

never seen it…boo

brandi September 18, 2009 at 9:59 am

1. I would like your breakfast sandwich, please.

2. The Office was FANTASTIC. That’s all I”m saying. Please let me know what you thought. We were dying laughing :)

Food Makes Fun Fuel September 18, 2009 at 10:45 am

I thought the Office was it’s usual hilarity, but it didn’t blow me away as special

I like the treadmill, obv, and then some either machine which might or might not be called the elliptical? I dunno, as long as it has a tv in front of it I’m a happy person.

Umm ginseng in a bar? How rocksome is that.

Faith September 18, 2009 at 1:10 pm

Why is it that your Quizno’s sub looks SO much more delish than mine ever does? ;)

My favorite gym machine (and I can’t belive I’m going to say this) is the stepper! Trust me I hate it and I hate myself while I’m on it, but it’s such a fantastic workout I always gravitate to it!

Nicole September 18, 2009 at 1:46 pm

All of those veggies look great!! I’m totally deprived right now! Elliptical all the way, baby!

Low September 18, 2009 at 3:10 pm

I’m scared of running in the dark also. And love quiznos!

I actually don’t mind the dreadmill, but I enjoy the elliptical also.

Jenny September 18, 2009 at 4:25 pm

I’ve only seen a few episodes of the office and it is effin’ hysterical. Steve Carrell is kind of my hero… my other hero = you.

love to ya bugaboo! xo

Lynn @ The Actors Diet September 18, 2009 at 4:54 pm

haven’t watched the office yet – have it saved on my DVR…i’m so behind!

Caroline September 18, 2009 at 7:21 pm

Love that egg sandwich! The ezekiel english muffins are my favorite kind, I think you just inspired me to have eggs tomorrow. Yey for the office premiere as well last night. I didn’t get to watch it until today but it was hilarious, per usual :)

Matt September 18, 2009 at 7:47 pm

I actually don’t really go to the gym. I do a lot of core work and running, which I can do on my own. Sadly, I can’t remember the last time I have lifted weights. After this marathon, I better get on that.

Jenna September 18, 2009 at 7:51 pm

Mine used to be the elliptical, but now it is the dreadmill :)

Your breakfast sammie and your Quizno’s sammie both look so delish!

Have a wonderful weekend my dear :)

Matt September 18, 2009 at 8:23 pm

I must know more about this breakfast veggie patty! I love savory breakfast, but I hate eggs so I almost always just have a smoothie or cereal. What’s in it? What makes it a breakfast patty?

Mia {runs & rests} September 18, 2009 at 8:28 pm

Your breakfast and lunch have me craving a big sammie! I don’t go to the gym so no fave machine for me. I am the machine I guess. Harhar.
Have a fun girly reunion!:D

Jess September 18, 2009 at 8:46 pm

That workout (elliptical+yoga) sounds FABULOUS! How relaxing :D

Ahhh, subs are awesome. As is everything else you ate!!
<3 jess

Jenny September 20, 2009 at 6:08 pm

Hi! Catching up on my FULL reader!!

I had no idea a misto and a latte were the same thing, fun!

I love the Office, but unfortunately have not been able to keep up regularly..such an awesome show though. I love the elliptical, and as long as I can keep it interesting with some of Janetha’s style HIIT, the treadmill ain’t too bad ;)
