today i…*

(1) Woke up at 7:45am to find Paula Deen has diabetes. What a shocker.

(2) Took too long of a shower, smeared my mascara so bad brushing it on that I had to wash my entire face and start over again, stood mesmerized at the thick flakes of snow falling outside my window, putzed around my apartment and ate breakfast at my desk after arriving late to work.

(2) Thoroughly enjoyed this gluten-free Inside Out Wellness granola. It’s locally made here in Madison and boasts a stellar list of ingredients: organic buckwheat groats, organic apples + bananas, cashews, organic coconut flakes, organic raw honey, cinnamon AND organic love.

Too bad organic love costs $5.99 a bag.

(3) Realized the new tunic blouse I bought this weekend ripped at the seam AND had a whole in the left armpit. It also should be noted that I only noticed both of these wardrobe malfunctions after my co-workers pointed them out to me. No wonder the blouse was 30% off.

(4) Was a ravenous beast.

I guess that’s what happens the day after you run 2 miles AND follow it up with a 45-minute Jillian Michael’s circuit training routine. #dowork

(5) Realized I have a borderline stalker style crush on Bri while reading this post.

(6) Had my first day of school in more than five years. It was an ‘Introduction to Computer Graphics’ class, and I am already convinced I am going to love my graphic design program.

(7) Came home and reheated a bowl of this easy vegan dinner. Obsessed.

(8) Am going to take a deep breath and finally do this dishes in my sink…right after I watch an episode or five of How I Met Your Mother.

YOUR turn! Fill in the blank: Today I ___________.

“What a shocker” were the exact thoughts that came to mind once I found out too. Is that mean? Haha. Today I was somewhat productive and got a great workout!

Gillian January 17, 2012 at 8:33 pm

Today I was reminded how much I adore you and how beautifully balanced your eats are. Also that I love raw cashews and that peanut butter + jam on a spoon is a totally acceptable snack, many times in a row.

Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn January 17, 2012 at 8:35 pm

Have you had pretzel M&M’s?? Those are straight up MAGIC.

Today I … took a class in social media and it was like a dream come true.

Susie January 17, 2012 at 8:38 pm

I was introduced to HIMYM by an old coworker years ago, but for some reason lately it’s totally my jam to watch right now. Especially the early seaons. <3 Netflix.

Today I… stayed home from work and began to be proactive with changes in my life, again. Lots of upheavals in 2012.

“And even as she reveals that she is living with Type 2 Diabetes, she says it won’t stop her from eating the way she wants.”

Um…excuse me? Failing to acknowledge the dietary limitations of a disease like that is not only dumb but extremely dangerous. I feel bad for her. She probably feels like she’s under a lot of pressure to maintain her image, even when it could cost her years of her life.

Katie @ Peace Love & Oats January 17, 2012 at 8:50 pm

Today I was super jealous of your peanut m&ms (I have to cut out white sugar…) and want to try that dinner! It sounds delicious!

Amber January 17, 2012 at 8:59 pm

I wasn’t shocked… my first thought was hypocrite and I love all the stuff Anthony Bourdain has said about her. Anyways, Today I enjoyed the infamous Onion Bread (very famous to us raw folks) with eggplant bacon, avocado, and tomato. I love when simple food tastes complex. I also got home at a decent hour to spend some time with the hubs and watch New Girl. Overall good Tuesday.

Pure2raw twins January 17, 2012 at 9:05 pm

mmm quinoa!! I have been loving that too lately. made a new casserole with it.

and today I watched How I met your mother too! love that show

Clair January 17, 2012 at 9:07 pm

Sounds like a fantastic day! Glad to hear class went well.

I did yoga this morning, and then went to my first class of the semester too. Not as much fun as graphic design, but the first class is always promising no matter what it is, right? =)

Marci January 17, 2012 at 9:24 pm

I love your pics with the writing on it. Especially made the last one look great on a potholder with the colors together. And can’t wait to hear more about your classes.

Carbzilla January 17, 2012 at 9:41 pm

Today I went to work even though I was already mentally taking a snow day.

Aggg – Bri’s TOO cute. I’m having EBLE – extreme boot leg envy. Even if I lost a million pounds, I’m just not built for leggings and tall boots. It’s killing me. The other day I caught myself giving creepy looks to a girl in skinny jeans and the cutest boots. Her legs were a mile long and as big around as my arm. I was fascinated with her and wanted to push her over at the same time. Ugh.

Liz @ iheartvegetables January 17, 2012 at 10:23 pm

That sucks about the shirt!!!! I bought a cardigan from old navy that got a huge hole in the elbow after 1 washing. And my boss pointed it out. hahaha oops. He actually thought it was funny!

Bronwyn January 17, 2012 at 10:36 pm

Good ol’ Paula Deen, way to prove that too much butter and sugar adds up to diabetes…

Today I was on TV to talk about some nutrition stuff. And did some Hot Yoga. Good day!

grace b January 18, 2012 at 12:08 am

Today wandered into a flower shop to stall going home….and left ten minutes later with a cactus that my boyfriend insisted he buy. Apparently it represents our love. And we named it Lloyd. Yea, I know, it’s making you nauseous. It DID take us awhile to decide between naming it either Lloyd or Rainbow. :)

Oh and I also kicked ass at work.

Holly it is so cool you are going back to academia! Major props sista.

Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] January 18, 2012 at 1:10 am

that buckwheat granola sounds super duper. let’s make some!

Meghan January 18, 2012 at 1:15 am

This past year I went back to school for graphic design after five years, too! It’s been a wonderful experience for me (and continues to be as we move into the second semester)… I hope it’s the same for you! Good luck, and if you ever want to chat about design programs, etc., definitely hit me up. =)

Erica January 18, 2012 at 2:24 am

That granola looks fabulous. As does the trail mix. I have zero control around dried fruit!!

Lauren January 18, 2012 at 6:06 am

I heard that PD was diagnosed as well. I think it’s sad but I’ve heard even more sad news about how she is handling it.

Lindsay @ The Reluctant Runner January 18, 2012 at 6:12 am

I had the same reaction to you about the Paula Deen “news.” Haha!

Hillary January 18, 2012 at 6:55 am

YAY! Glad you enjoyed your first night of class. Tonight marks the beginning of the third-to-last semester of my Master’s program. But, really, who’s keeping track?

Yesterday, I made a gigantic batch of no-pudge brownies and convinced myself that, because they were no-pudge, it was completely acceptable to eat three of them. No including raw batter.

sarah @ sarah learns January 18, 2012 at 8:28 am

i’m so glad you enjoyed your first class! :)

today i… woke up with a raging headache and decided not to go into lab. yay.

Jenny January 18, 2012 at 8:43 am

I bought $3.99 jeans at TJmaxx a few months ago. I’m still just waiting for someone to tell me there’s a giant hole in the coo-cah.

today I….didn’t do much because it’s 9:45 and I’m lazy :)

Chris January 18, 2012 at 9:21 am

Yesterday* I mailed off my national security clearance paperwork, all eighteen pages of it. I also mailed your package too!

brandi January 18, 2012 at 10:12 am

today i….

put on new gray tights with my boots instead of saggy pants that i wanted to wear. yeah!

wore earrings instead of forgetting, like usual.

am craving another chocolate croissant from my favorite local bakery.

had a smoothie with spinach in this for breakfast since the rest of my day may not involve many veggies.

Katie January 18, 2012 at 11:02 am

Oh Paula. She’ll probably make even MORE money now with a diabetes cookbook. Good for her.

And I need to do a post like this – I can’t believe I used to do it EVERY day!! Love you.

julie January 18, 2012 at 1:08 pm

today I took a lunch break for the first time in FOREVER and read! the hunger games has me by the balls (haha so feminine of me) and i must find every minute to read.

Megan (Braise the Roof) January 18, 2012 at 1:32 pm

Even though you had holes in your shirt, I’m sure you still looked cute in it, it’s your way. I’ve totally done that before, except none of my coworkers ever point it out. I guess that means your coworkers love you more. PS, did you see Anthony Bourdain’s response to the PD news? Pretty hilarious.

Robin January 18, 2012 at 2:41 pm

Do you have a recipe for the mushroom lasagna? It looks delicious.

Lauren @ The Climbing Chef January 18, 2012 at 7:02 pm

*Finished an amazing book (“Let the Great World Spin”, seriously… just read it), tried to defrost my fridge in 30-45 degree weather (currently, it is still out in my garden), had a lunch date with a good friend and am about to hit the movies with my mama :) Good day!!

Your Vegan dinner looks amazing… I have a bunch of left over quinoa that I will have to use in making it :)

I’m glad you are liking your class! There is no worse thing that taking a class you hate being in. Have fun :)

Maren January 18, 2012 at 8:25 pm

Froze my ass off.

It’s cold here. Guess I forgot I moved to Minnesota.

TeriLyn [a foodie stays fit] January 18, 2012 at 8:31 pm

today i ate more candy and cheese than real food. i’m a winner.

Christine January 18, 2012 at 11:00 pm

Haha I sympathize with you. Last week I walked around work for WHO KNOWS how many hours with a rip in the ass of my jeans. For some crazy reason, I didn’t even notice it. Until my coworker pointed out to me that she could see my white butt. Fannnnntastic.

Emily January 18, 2012 at 11:13 pm

Had a snow day… in Seattle. Weird.

Sarah@The Flying ONION January 19, 2012 at 7:40 am

Today I woke up with the sun (on a weekday!) versus waking up at 5:45am like yesterday morning. It was brilliant. :D

Jessica @ Healthy Dairyland January 19, 2012 at 11:18 am

Love HIMYM!! Today I…ate several handfuls of cereal at my desk. Completely ruined my appetite for lunch. Oops!

Bethany January 19, 2012 at 3:46 pm

Holly,
I just happened upon your blog a few days ago :-) I was just wondering if you have any tips on running for a beginner. I’m planning to start the “Couch to 5k” plan next week but wondered if you had an advice for someone who never in their 24 years of life has been a runner! Thanks :-)

Steve January 19, 2012 at 5:14 pm

Today I…

– Hugged my new dog about 800,000 times before leaving for work
– Bid the cats farewell for the day
– Ran 4-miles on the dreadmill
– Discovered the left earbud of my favorite Klipsch headphones died
– Ran out of hot water at the showers at work
– Tried a new cologne (Bond No 9 – Washington Square) and liked it
– Ate a Quest Coconut protein bar for breakfast; washed down with Berres Bros coffee
– Attended a bunch of meetings
– Updated a lot of documents for current projects
– Went to Willy Street Co-Op for lunch and made a grilled chicken sandwich with Frank’s Hot Sauce; washed down with Honest unsweetened Green Tea; bought a few grocery items
– Drove home, started my supplemental electric heater, sat on my favorite chair with a dog on my lap and a cat on each side of me, and drooled over those peanut M&Ms and your oatmeal entries (I’m on a 100-day mission of not drinking and not eating badly).

Jen@FoodFamilyFitness January 21, 2012 at 5:54 pm

Today I stayed in my pajamas until 6:30pm and the only reason I’m dressed is because I’m headed out to book club tonight.

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate January 22, 2012 at 7:02 pm

Ok, I want that dinner now. Like ASAP.
