Tuesday Notes

in blog stuff,dinner,giving back,rambling

It should be noted that today, on this most innocent-looking July 12, 2011, I…

(1) Was forced to hand over exactly $1,183 to fix Blue Betty (a.k.a. my car). Thanks for the Andes mint on the way out Bob – it was almost worth forgoing theĀ cute ankle-length green skinny jeans at Anthropologie to put those new brake pads on my credit card.

(2) Was walking to work while talking to Mama Everythingtarian on the phone this morning when a bird pooped on me. Shit happens, I know. I just wish it didn’t happen on the right arm of my favorite black-and-white striped shirt.

(3) Decided that while car repairs suck + bird poop smells, I have every reason in the world to be thankful. For this perspective, I thank my dear friend Susan, who recently found out she has lymphoma. If you don’t remember, Susan + I traversed the gorgeous hills of Banff together AND took some seriously impressive jumping shots in San Francisco. She’s AMAZING, trust me.

In her honor, we are hosting The Great Fundraising Act, an online auction + blogger bake sale to help Susan cover hospital, chemotherapy and any other costs she may encounter as she kicks cancer in the @$$ (notice that button I designed over there on the right side bar -> -> ->).

We have more than 100 food/health/beauty/exercise/fun packages to bid on, and all the proceeds will go directly to Susan. Don’t forget to join the party here on July 25th and help our fellow blogger friend through this!

(4) Ate a massive bowl of Ginger Soy Glazed Tempeh Salad leftovers for lunch and breathed vicious garlic breath all day.

**Note to all you readers: if you want to (a) make out with a cute boy, (b) save the life of a vampire, or (c) not taste spicy garlic in the back of your throat all day, I would recommend cutting the 1 T of minced garlic down to 1/2 T in this recipe. You’ll thank me later.

(5) Deemed the only way to resurrect such a cruddy 48 hours was by staring at pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal online for 10 minutes, reviewing every outfit Kate Middleton wore on her North American tour (my favorite here), eat a big little kid dinner with a glass of milk and finish things off with a cooling iced coffee.

(6) Plan to finish my night watching the last two weeks of So You Think You Can Dance.

Melanie and Marko, all the way baby.

Pure2raw twins July 12, 2011 at 7:22 pm

I have been pooped on my bird, shit happens just like you said. Not fun though.
And Susan reminds us everyday to be thankful. She is a strong lady, know she will kick cancer in the butt.

Susan July 12, 2011 at 7:31 pm

THANK YOU for designing the awesome button and using a picture of myself I actually like. Both my sisters said it somehow managed to capture my personality (as much as a button can I suppose). You are the bestest/amazing/tubular/superlative. No really, I love you to itty bitty pieces and want to hang out again eventually, mmkay?

Oh, and the Toronto Sun published a picture of Kate in that dress where the wind blew it up and you can see her arse.

Or, so I’m told. Not like I googled it or anything.

Hillary July 12, 2011 at 7:42 pm

I am so glad I’m not the only one with a girl crush on Kate Middleton. She’s right up there with Emma Watson right now.

Jen July 12, 2011 at 7:49 pm

I just finished a marathon of the past 3 weeks of So You Think You Can Dance. I like so many of them!!!!

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga July 12, 2011 at 8:29 pm

so sorry about the car repair situation

I had unexpected car repairs about 2 mos ago
and then again i had a flat tire about 2 weeks ago

car repairs suck. i say you go to anthro anyway :)

Erica July 12, 2011 at 8:32 pm

They say being pooped on by a bird is good luck (they may only say this because they got pooped on…but I believe it!). Bah to the car. Cars are ridiculous expensive. Makes this chick mad.

dana @ my little celebration July 12, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Ha, I can’t believe you got pooped on AND had to forgo green skinny jeans for car repairs. What a bummer of a day.

Thinking of you friend! I’ll be checking into Susan’s bake sale. Thanks for the reminder!

Jessica July 12, 2011 at 10:54 pm

A bird pooped on my head during recess in 2nd grade and my mom wouldn’t pick me up from school. I had to wash my hair in a bathroom sink and pout my way through the rest of the day. It was unfortunate to say the least!

You and this love of tempeh makes me think I need to give it a second chance!

Mama Pea July 12, 2011 at 11:24 pm

I love you and that yellow dress and Susan and garlic. Suck it, makeout partners!

Abby July 13, 2011 at 7:15 am

1) Garlic is my scent of choice. It’s much cheaper than designer perfume and tastes a whole lot better.
2) Car repairs suck. I would like to live in a quaint little blogging/yoga/animal and veggie-filled town where I could ride my bike everywhere. See what you can do about that.
3) A bird didn’t poop on me yesterday, but one did fly into the side of my head. I guess that’s marginally better?

Liz July 13, 2011 at 7:35 am

I have been pooped on twice by a bird – seriously! It’s good luck though, at least in Europe. Remember Under the Tuscan Sun when the bird poops on Diane Lane and then she’s able to buy her dream villa?? Yeah, where are our dreams villas on the Italian coast I’d love to know. Please give Susan a hug for me – sending prayers her way!

Meister @ The Nervous Cook July 13, 2011 at 7:53 am

Bird poop is good luck (says the girl who got the same treatment while putting out a proverbial work-related fire on the phone in 90+F weather last week). I mean, it’s got to be good luck, right? Or maybe it just makes everything that comes after seem like a breeze.

Great on you, raising money for your friend! What a worthwhile cause, and a great opportunity to show your support. Lots of love around the blogging community!

brandi July 13, 2011 at 8:15 am

oh poop – it happens to everyone at some point :)

Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table July 13, 2011 at 8:37 am

I heard that a bird pooping on you is good luck. Of course, that was probably made up by someone who was pooped on in order to feel better about it. Like rain on you wedding day.

Chris July 13, 2011 at 9:17 am

Every time I go visit Washington D.C. I seem to have a bird leave a mark on me. They must adore dress clothes.

colleenzo July 13, 2011 at 10:02 am

It’s supposed to be a sign of good luck to get bird-crapped on! I know your pain with the car repairs…I just threw $975 I don’t have at my car, and I still have another $150 that needs to be done (for now…). Also a huge fan of Melanie and Marko!

Jess July 13, 2011 at 6:24 pm

Pooped on?!?! That majorly stinks. :(

Linda July 13, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Love this! Thanks for reminding me that no matter how bad of a day I am having…I still have SO much to be thankful for! :) I think we all need a little reminder every now and then. It’s so easy to focus on the negative sometimes.
Can’t wait to read some more about the auction. What a wonderful thing you are doing.
I hope your friend gets the care she needs to kick the cancer’s A$$. It sounds like she definitely has a lot of love and support already. :)
Enjoy the rest of your week! I

Amanda July 13, 2011 at 11:51 pm

ugh bird poop is THE worst. LAME!

So excited about the auction! The button you designed is perfect.

Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles July 14, 2011 at 12:49 am

I’m so sorry to hear about your car! Sounds like the name of the game this week is transportation troubles- found myself with a flat bike tire this morning- NOT ideal!

Hope the rest of your week is smooth sailing! =)

Lauren http://theclimbingchef.blogspot.com/ July 14, 2011 at 1:53 pm

My friend went through that fight about 5 years ago and she ended up coming out the other side all smiles and healthy doctors visits. I can only wish the same for your friend!!! But, I wouldn’t miss out of the fundraiser on the 25th :) Use the word bake sale and I am there!!

Hope the rest of your week goes well and you don’t have to deal with anymore issues.

jeri July 14, 2011 at 7:23 pm

Also obsessed with Marko and Melanie, my a-hole of a DVR ate the performance episode of last week, but kept the results episode. I was pissed. I could just LOOK UP THE RESULTS… I missed the fabo dancing. Tear. And I feel your pain on the car shiz…. my window got stuck 2 weekends ago, and when I went to have them fix it, they shut my door and my window exploded. My repair cost quadrupled. :(

So sorry to hear about your friend’s diagnosis. Cancer is a biotch.

Cait's Plate July 15, 2011 at 9:29 am

I’ve heard such good things about SYTYCD! I need to start watching it!!

Happy Friday – hope the weekend brings only good things :)

kate July 15, 2011 at 11:26 am
