Walnut Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Since y’all responded with oohs and ahhs to my Granny’s Banana Bread recipe yesterday, I thought I would share the Everythingtarian family recipe.

My Granny originally just made it simply as Banana Bread – no add-ins, no special touches, nada.  However, yours truly decided walnuts + chocolate chips would make a truly decadent pairing with this wondrous bread.

So here we go…a bi-generational recipe right at your fingertips!

Walnut Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

1/2 stick butter
1 cup sugar
4 very ripe bananas
1 egg
2 cups flour (I used whole wheat, and it still turned out marvelously!)
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup crushed walnuts

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

In a mixing bowl or stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar.  Add 3 of the bananas and egg; mix well.  Turn off the mixer, and add the dry ingredients into the bowl.  Mix until it forms a batter.  Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts, then pour in a greased loaf pan.  Slice the remaining banana on top.

Bake the bread for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.  Take out of the pan to cool, and enjoy!

Sorry for no regular post tonight – I just got back home and have a bajillion thangs to do!  However, I will see you tomorrow for our regularly scheduled blogging programming.

What was the highlight of your Labor Day weekend? Mine was probably seeing my long lost love Diana or just hanging around at home watching movies.  Ya can’t go wrong with either :).

Hi Holly! Thanks for visiting my blog! This banana bread looks delicious. It’s good to know that wholewheat flour works…kinda balances out the chocolate chips ;)

Lauren September 8, 2009 at 5:40 pm

That bread looks crazy good! The only thing in this world that could possibly make it any better would be a little smear of AB! :)

Hope you had a great day!

Mia {runs and rests} September 8, 2009 at 5:55 pm

Insane! :D Loving the wholewheat-chocolate chip-walnut crazies right there!
You know I love my bread. I made a fresh loaf last night – matcha banana bread. Banana totally overpowered the matcha flavor but still good moist nana bread. Yum.

Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) September 8, 2009 at 6:28 pm

This is over the top, Holly. I think it might be the ultimate banana bread recipe. I can practically smell it from here…haha. :D

Matt September 8, 2009 at 6:51 pm

Banana bread is the best! I’m a huge walnut fan these days too. And they’re good for you, therefore this is healthy banana bread, right?

Matt September 8, 2009 at 7:36 pm

I will have to make that!

Jenny September 9, 2009 at 10:57 am
