Washington D.C. (Is the Way to Be)

I took an obscene amount of photos this past weekend.

What’s more obscene however, is that I cannot for the Everythingtarian life of me selectively choose which ones to show you. I can’t not show you our epic trip to the horribly-scripted, yet decadently delicious set of the TLC reality show DC Cupcakes. I can’t not show you Friday night’s lovely blogger dinner meet-up at Pizza Paradiso. I can’t not show you our 2nd cupcake venture, this time to Washington D.C.’s #1 rated vegan restaurant, Sticky Fingers.

Therefore, I shall show you it all.

I’ve got my after-dinner blood orange margarita in my left hand and my right hand free to type, so let’s get down to business…

Georgetown Cupcake is everything a cupcakery should be.

While the show is obnoxiously scripted, their cupcakes are seriously legit. With flavors like chocolate banana, cherry blossom, hibiscus mango and salted caramel, their cupcakes are the perfect size (not too big, not too little) and boast the best frosting I have ever had.

Looking over the menu, I hemmed, hawed and hummed (Backstreet Boys’ “I Want it That Way,” if you must know) over my final decision.

Do I want something fruity or chocolatey?

Should I go for a classic cupcake like vanilla or something seasonal like Irish Creme?

Did I choose the right cupcake?

Will I ever find eternal happiness if I choese the wrong cupcake?

Luckily, as soon as I had my chocolate PB chip cupcake with peanut butter frosting in hand alongside a hot cup of chai tea, I was perfectly content with my choice.

I mean, look at the size + number of those PB chips.

My cupcake comrades, Madeline and Evan, got the red velvet and gluten-free lava fudge (respectively) and agreed the cupcakes were some of the best we’ve ever had. It’s no wonder each one of us licked the cupcake wrapper clean.

On Friday night, I had the lovely pleasure of meeting some fellow D.C.-area bloggers for dinner and to discuss in-depth, foodie-related things like chia seeds, nutritional yeast and the wonders of coconut milk ice cream. ¬†Ya know, the things you can’t talk to your normal friends about otherwise they think you have turned into some kind of blogging weirdo.

Madeline, Beth, Sarah + Mindy

Christine, Evan, Alex + moi

Guilty as charged.

Since it was the night before the big sports bra-less race, I eschewed the alcohol and instead carbo-loaded with four slices of majorly delicious pizza.

That and three Diet Cokes, one of which the waiter brought with two straws for me + Madeline.

I know, we are too cute for words.

Just wait until next post when I recap Philly.

Then you are really going to be in for a {vegan French toast breakfast} treat.

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate March 30, 2011 at 8:31 pm

Oh yes. Vegan French Toast ;)

Evan Thomas March 30, 2011 at 8:31 pm

There’s something so fun about reading another blogger’s post and having been there behind the scenes for all the artsy photos.
Mad props to whoever took the photo of our side of the table at Pizza Paradiso. Since I made that my fb profile pic, I’ve gotten a slew of compliments. I’m a handsome devil when I’m not licking cupcake crumbs off a table.

Gluten free cupcake?! Are you fo real? I would have dominated that bad boy.

my little celebration March 30, 2011 at 9:51 pm

My conclusions from this post: You are adorable. I love your quirky red glasses. I’m jealous of your hair poof. I’m convinced we have the exact same taste in food, especially when it comes to dessert. I want to go to D.C. now, STAT. And I wish we lived closer, seriously. I can’t believe I parents separated us as children.

Madeline - Greens and Jeans March 30, 2011 at 9:52 pm

More cupcakes and diet coke please. And more Holly. Stat.

Sana March 30, 2011 at 10:53 pm

Have I ever told you I have a tattoo of a cupcake on my right rib cage? Well… I do! and I am very jealous of your cupcake adventure.

Next time you show up in San Francisco, I’d love to get a food bloggie dinner with you!!! With beer from Toronado. See link:http://www.toronado.com/

megan @ the oatmeal diaries March 31, 2011 at 3:59 am

Everything about this post made me smile. I think you made the right decision, cupcake-wise! Can I just say I love that photo of you devouring it?!
I’m excited for the Philly recap!

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) March 31, 2011 at 4:55 am

“I know, we are too cute for words.”– YES, you are!

I would have given anything to dine w/ you, Madeline, Evan and gang and chat it up. WOW, who needs Food Buzz when you had the DC Marathon!

Lauren March 31, 2011 at 5:58 am

I am definitely hitting up Gerogetown Cupcake this weekend when I am in DC for the Cherry Blossom Race! So glad you had a great weekend. Where did you guys eat dinner? I’m still looking for a good place to have dinner Saturday night.

Elizabeth Carr March 31, 2011 at 7:09 am

Sami March 31, 2011 at 8:45 am

CUTIE PIES! :) I think i would’ve gone with something like carrot cake (LOVE cream cheese frosting) orrrrr red velvet! that chocolate pb looks like it was your perfect match, though ;)

Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin March 31, 2011 at 8:49 am

Such cute pictures Holly!

chloe@ 321delish March 31, 2011 at 8:57 am

Life would be boring if things went according to plan.

Megan (Braise the Roof) March 31, 2011 at 10:53 am

Is it wrong that I saw the hours on the cupcakery and thought, “Jeez, why don’t they open earlier??” And then I had to remind myself that cupcakes are not, in fact, muffins that one should eat at breakfast. Most days anyway. ;)

Christine @ Merf In Progress March 31, 2011 at 12:13 pm

Why didn’t anybody tell me my boobs were spilling out of my shirt?!

You people are killing me with all this cupcake talk. I’m going to have to hit that place up one of these days.

emily (a nutritionist eats) March 31, 2011 at 3:35 pm

Love all of this: pictures, cupcakes, red glasses, pizza, blog friends!

Emily March 31, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Great pictures! Sounds like a great trip, bra mishap and all.

I used to live blocks away from Sticky Fingers… miss it so!

Mary @ Bites and Bliss March 31, 2011 at 6:51 pm

sofia March 31, 2011 at 8:43 pm

hot dang. next time i’m in DC, i’m going to that cupcake spot. i love specialty places like that. now apparently doughnuts are the new cupcake, so when you’re here we have to hit up doughnut plant, dough, and flex mussels (for the doughnuts) so we can be up with the youngins ‘n’ stuff.

Pure2raw twins March 31, 2011 at 9:08 pm

FUN! FUN! FUN! I hope one day soon we get to hang out, as our time in SF was not enough..and I am sorry for that. Glad you had a great time!! Look forward to more pics and hopefully more cupcakes :)

sophia March 31, 2011 at 9:25 pm

I still hate myself for being in CA when this happened…DC is my home city!! I would have loved to invite you guys over for a meal. :-)

I’ve never been to Georgetown Cupcakery though, as the lines are always atrocious and I’m not too into cupcakes anyway…but they sure are pretty!

Katie April 1, 2011 at 8:49 pm

Yes, you are too damn cute for words, and you know this! love ya Holly! DC is awesome, i miss it there! I am going there in May for a weekend! Im excited to go back again!!

Morgan @ My Name is Morgan.. and I'm a Pumpholic April 28, 2011 at 8:01 pm
