in week in review,weekend

If you’re thinking about getting a kidney infection…don’t.

Because what will happen is this: you’ll make the decision to do some reprioritizing in your life, get all excited to tackle your newfound schedule and them – bam! – you’re laying on a bed in the ER with a bonafide UTI kidney infection on a Monday night. Even better, your mom will ask you if you got said UTI because you forgot to pee after sex.┬áIf you find yourself in this embarrassing situation, at least there’s Roasted Vegetable Toasts to comfort you.

Of course, as a result of the UTI, you will be forbidden from consuming caffeine, dairy and your daily multivitamin in addition to being told you cannot do any strenuous exercise. So long Couch to 5K program…and so long marathon training for 10 days!

It’s a good thing there is also Veggie Reubens and Homemade Shamrock Shakes (<- dairy-free!) to comfort you. Otherwise, that horrible back pain you’re in might become seriously unbearable.

A bright spot in your recovery could be your first speaking engagement! You’ll get to hang out with a bunch of cool ladies (and one gent!) from the UW-Madison Dietetics & Nutrition Club and talk food, NCAA basketball and blogging. It will help immensely in making you feel better.

Which leads me to today…and the picture above. A typical Saturday morning. More recovery.

Computer open. Your favorite veggie scramble. Coffee waiting to be poured. Your iPhone. The beginnings of a to-do list. And your red reading glasses.

While you may be yearning for the sunny freedom of last weekend, somehow sitting down to catch up on work and emails and make to-do lists and plan for productivity and tackle your weekend is a good feeling.

Let’s get it started.

Oh my gosh, poor lady! Ugh.. kidney infection.. UTIs.. all of it is no fun. I do love that artsy top photo, though. And you. And I hope you are back to 100% soon. XO

Amen sister! So sorry to hear about the ladygirl troubles–been dealing with that myself lately and it is the worst.

And glad to hear that someone else is on the productivity bandwagon! This stupid cold I have + the gross rainy weather outside = budgeting, cleaning, all day. With maybe some Tim Riggins thrown in.

Hope to hear you’re doing well in your next post! :)

OMG two years ago this was ME…I didn’t know the unbearable back pain and 104 degree fever was anything bad until I was in the ER with an IV stuck in my arm for 3 hours….god kidney infections are the worst…just drink lots of cranberry juice, water, and enjoy being lazy until all better :) Oh and that whole question you’re mom asked? Yep, I got that from my entire family…embarrassing.

sending you lots of love holly belle,

UGH. I’ve had a couple visits to the ER lately myself for similar issues and I know they are NO fun. So sorry, and hope they gave you some stellar antibiotics!

Erica March 24, 2012 at 12:01 pm

oh man – utis are the WORST. Glad you’re recovering. Your speaking engagement looked like so much fun

Jessica March 24, 2012 at 12:09 pm

Eeek my poor lady!! Sometimes life gets in the way (in an unexpected, unwanted way) just to remind us to slow it down and take it easy!

Enjoy the rest of this weekend- get some work done, enjoy good food and take care of your bada$$ self! No better way to kick it off than with a veggie scramble, toast and coffee :)

Sana March 24, 2012 at 12:35 pm

Hahaha, your mom. Love it.Feel better!

Julie @Savvy Eats March 24, 2012 at 12:59 pm

Uggggggh. I had a bladder infection a few years ago– it was the worst! Feel better lady!

OMG… I hate kidney infections!!!! I once had to ride the bus (SF MUNI, whhhaaattt?!) to the doctor with a kidney infections… I seriously thought I might die!!!! Those bitches are the worse thing on the planet. I am glad to hear that my mom isn’t the only one who asks questions like that. My dad does too… Oh, I can just feel the love :)
-Feel better, lovely

Susan March 24, 2012 at 1:19 pm

That sounds awful! I hope it wasn’t too painful, and I’m glad you are feeling better now. How sweet did that first cup of coffee taste after ten days?

Congratulations on the speaking opportunity!

Yuck! I’m so sorry you’re feeling not so good!

PS – I always pee after you know what. I thought I was the only one who did that. No?

Catherine March 24, 2012 at 3:05 pm

Feel.Your.Pain o my gosh this SUCKS. I have been there, and it does make you feel so so good when you are better and can appreciate NOT feeling ill. Glad you are OK and back on the old joe! xxx

Sarah March 24, 2012 at 3:36 pm

Boo for UTI’s!!
All that food you mentioned DOES sound seriously comforting. I hope it keeps you feeling good until you’re TRULY feeling better.

Hillary March 24, 2012 at 3:47 pm

Oh, no. Not good.

If it makes you feel any better, when I was randomly hospitalized last winter, my dad’s first question was, “Are you pregnant?” So at least we have that awful, uncomfortable parental concern in common, right?

In all seriousness, I hope you’re feeling better ASAP, lady. Eat, rest, repeat!

Jeannie March 24, 2012 at 9:13 pm

Once again, you have put things into perspective!
I absolutely LOVE the feeling of a Saturday morning with coffee+newspaper+thingstocheckoffthelist :)
I’m really sorry to hear about your UTI/kidneys though, take care of yourself!

Laura @ Backstage Balance March 24, 2012 at 10:07 pm

Girl, you are a trooper. What an awful-sounding ordeal. And what an embarrassing question from your Mother! Hope that you’re feeling better.

glidingcalm March 25, 2012 at 12:12 am

“Even better, your mom will ask you if you got said UTI because you forgot to pee after sex.” – LOL! you are hilarious

hope you feel better, Holly!

Mattie @ Comfy and Confident March 25, 2012 at 10:59 am

Get well soon. I used to get UTI’s alot and they are the worst and I can only imagine how much worse Kidney Infections are. I love your picture and it sounds like you are making the best out of the situation.

Alaina March 25, 2012 at 7:59 pm

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon! I had a mild UTI and it was NOT pleasant. I hated the feeling of constantly having to go. That didn’t bode well when I was at work and constantly had to leave the desk, too.

Frankie March 26, 2012 at 2:09 pm

My mom is a bit more embarrassing… When I got a kidney infection from a UTI, my aunt asked her in public why, my mom loudly replied, “Because she’s having too much sex! Don’t you remember I used to get them all the time when I was her age.” Seriously, mortifying. Now I don’t tell my mom when I get a UTI because she always blames it on too much sex.

Kristen - Anywhere There's An Airport March 28, 2012 at 8:06 pm

Just catching up on things around here… with one consoling though – you are not alone – I feel you – literally. My flight back from Spain (weeks ago) brought with it the most horrid uti pain EVER. My plane mantra “you can’t possibly die from this.” (Though I did wish for it!) Weeks later… and I am just starting to feel better. (and my answer to momma E’s question is yes – always!)

Many healing thoughts and much love to you! Catch up soon!

April March 29, 2012 at 11:09 am

Yikes! I hope you are on the mend now! I have had a kidney infection before and remember how painful they can be. Take it easy and watch reruns of some fabulously ridiculous show :)
