Welcome to The Healthy Everythingtarian!

by Holly on April 23, 2009

in welcome

Hello!  My name is Holly, and even though we just met, I’m going to let you in on a teeny weeny secret: I have not always been a healthy everythingtarian.  Growing up, I was average-sized, but my appetite (let me tell you!) was a whole lot bigger.  I stayed active as a figure skater and enjoyed physical activities of all sorts, but I still knew deep inside I was a long way from being the healthy, happy person I wanted to be.

When I said bon voyage to good ol’ Minnesota and hello to Wisconsin for college, I started gradually eating healthier and working out regularly.  However, I studied abroad in London, England my sophomore year.  Let’s just say I ate my way through the continent of Europe in the process (you can still see my credit card bill if you want the proof).  After coming back from an awesome semester abroad, I knew it was time to make some serious LIFESTYLE changes.

I can proudly say – almost 4 years later – that I am more than 25 pounds lighter and feel fit, happy and most importantly, healthy.  Focusing on eating fruits and veggies and incorporating activity (of any sort!) into my daily routine has really been the basis for my transformation.  Although I do limit the amount of meat & animal products I eat and eat organically whenever possible, I really am an everythingtarian.  Telling myself I can’t have something does NOT work for me.  In fact, it makes me only want it more!

Inspired by healthy living & food blogs myself, I am starting my own blog in hopes others will be able to use what I’ve learned about nutrition, exercise and life (and maybe throw in a side of humor for good measure!).  Everyone deserves to be healthy and happy, and if I can help even one person achieve that, creating this blog will have been more than worth it.  My writing is not intended to substitute for doctor or nutritionist recommendations but merely a little help on your way to finding what best works for you.

Join me as I navigate the daily waters of post-college life and attempt to create a healthy balance between exercise, food and life.  I can’t make any promises about what’s ahead, but do expect one thing: a little bit of everything!

One of my favorite things?  Jumbo chocolate-covered pretzels in Salzburg, Austria!

Halo my mucho buena senorita,

Luv yer hair and always remember “If you work out everything will work out” and “Nobody can eat 50 eggs” and “I once new a man with a wooden leg named Smith. What was the name of his other leg?”

I always read my pillow that says that before I go to bed. And then I think….you can pick your friends; you can pick your nose, but don’t pick your friend’s nose.

From the Chronicles of Tommia:

Exercise, it’s my meditation and my medication.

I can’t believe I’ve never read this post!

And I’ve ALWAYS wondered what was in front of your face in the little tiny thumbnail pic I see on your comments around blogworld. All this time I thought it was a camera! But OF COURSE it’s a giant chocolate covered pretzel! What else would it be? Duh!
